Dexter - episode one
I had read the first book before I saw the series so I thought I knew what to expect but I loved that they switched it up.

I just finished watching episode one. It amuses me greatly when Dexter doesn't get some of the humor or sarcasm or sexual references. *cracks up* One of my faves is when he says his sister should look hot because it's so hot out.

A couple fave/memorable quotes from episode one: do you have any?
"Normal people are so hostile."

"The code of Harry."

"Hey. Wanna play?"

The doll head on his refrigerator makes me giddy. lol

I so want to be Dexter when I grow up.

Thoughts?

I have standards.

I'm a very neat monster.

I love his running inner-narrative.

One thing that I find so fascinating is that he lives a very secret life in such an open home. He lives in a semi-fish bowl but yet he manages to keep the world from seeing who he really is.

The actress that plays his sister annoys the hell out of me with her quirky, weird face and actions. Plus, she's incompetent.

I'm fascinated by the fact that he doesn't feel anything, but yet he's not totally dead inside. I love his interaction with Rita and her kids. Besides Harry and his sister, they're his connection to humanity and in a way his saving grace.

Dokes *loves* :D

Grab a crayon psycho and scribble this down.

Dexter playing with his swivel chair is cute, for a psycho :)

I really like how they incorporate flashbacks to let the viewer see how Dexter was raised and how Harry trained him to fit into society and function as a "normal" person.

He's fanboying a serial killer. How cute and twisted is that!

(I have an appointment but I'll come back tomorrow and squeee!)

Really??? I actually rather like her. :D

ITA. Sometimes it almost seems like he does feel a tiny bit but is completely disconnected from it, like an experience outside of himself without meaning in his brain. or something. lol.

i'm only on episode 6 so what do i know? hee!

it's completely adorable, in a very wrong way. :D

I too love the running voice over narrative. I feel like it's just like the books.

I don't think she's incompetent, I think maybe she's just lacking self-confidence.

I was thinking about the not feeling things and the dynamic of how much he hates to see kids in pain last night as I watching. I think we might be able to make a connection to that before long. Maybe. :)

DOAKES!!!!!!!!! hee hee (have you read the books?)

He is fanboying a serial killer...it's like they're playing tag. GIGGLES.

One thing that I find so fascinating is that he lives a very secret life in such an open home. He lives in a semi-fish bowl but yet he manages to keep the world from seeing who he really is.

And he does it in these little ways like answering the phone while he's "in the middle of a project" and joining his sister at the restaurant while one of his projects is 'all wrapped up' (ok so that's not Episode 1 but you know what I mean)

The actress that plays his sister annoys the hell out of me with her quirky, weird face and actions. Plus, she's incompetent.

I hated her in the early episodes but she grows on you. I like her plenty by end of Season 2.

I'm fascinated by the fact that he doesn't feel anything, but yet he's not totally dead inside. I love his interaction with Rita and her kids. Besides Harry and his sister, they're his connection to humanity and in a way his saving grace.

I find it hard to believe that he really doesn't feel anything especially when he interacts so naturally with the children. Bunny - I didn't read the books - what was he really like? Does he do this dialogue with himself that 'if I care about them would I do this?'

Yes, his running dialogue is very true to his characterization in the books. I love it except I miss the Dark Passenger that's what he calls his urge to kill...his voice to kill.
