It wasn't part of the plan. It never had been. They were supposed to be singularly focused on one, well technically two things. Get the phone from their past self, and then look for that bomb so it could be stopped. Three things then, counting the bomb destruction. Four counting the whole get it done before dying as that was the absolute end game. And his death was going to be particularly fiery. He had succeeded with part one, though he had been discovered all too easily. His stealth skills really needed work. And yet even with knowing that, and that he could potentially be discovered again, he still found himself making the trek out to the house. That house.
It would only be for a moment, he told himself. Just long enough to check in on her, make sure the surrounding area was safe, and the he would move on. Despite everything that had happened to harden him over the years he still cared deeply for friends, especially certain ones. It helped him to keep some bit of humanity amongst all the devastation. He knew it would be tough to see her, and not just because she would be younger again. Seeing himself had been such a trip. Her death was still so fresh in his mind. He could vividly see every moment, feel the helplessness when Curaga finally failed him when it came to healing her of her injuries. Still feel the weight of her lifeless body in his arms as he broke down. The heaviness as he left her to join the others that had also taken the damn shot. He hated the shot so much after that but he wasn't going to not go on the mission. Seeing her alive was just going to give him that extra bit of motivation right? If they succeed then she and everyone else, all the multiverses, live. Just one look and he would go. He could do that. Maybe.
Yea. He was just asking for trouble with this little side trip.
