So I got it into my head that I wanted to do a Samantha/Nellie vid. I guess, just because I have the movie. But I didn't know what song to use (usually I hear the song and feel inspired to use it in a specific video). I just grabbed something at random off my harddrive, a song I had thought I wanted to use for something but wasn't sure what for.

And now I have this vid that has to be the weirdest thing I've ever done. It's sad and creepy constructed reality that might give anyone unfamiliar with these books some interesting impressions.

It also kind of inspires a whole original plot I should maybe do something with.

Highlander Fic Search (yeah, fat chance...)

Ok, this is weird, old, and not a little twisted but I just rewatched scenes from the 'Horsemen' episodes on Youtube...

You out there who once dabbled in 'Highlander' - ever come across fic pairing Kronos and Richie? I've been wanting this ever since Kronos turned up, and there seems to be *nothing* out there I can find, and it's just a crime against darkfic!

Halp!?!

Happy Birthday To Us!!!!!

I think you might have noticed my passing fondness (which, yes, was rapidly fanned into a full-blown obsession) for a certain German soap opera. Today is our birthday! Eskimo Kiss Project is one year old today!

I was going to gush about what an incredible, intense experience this has been (and I still might after I have my coffee), but right now I want to share my squeee! We're getting so much love there, including THE BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER EVER EVER!!!

Wish you all could see me beaming right now!!! (Or maybe not, it's probably kinda scary...)

For the last 24 hours my nephew has been in Emergency with a serious flare-up of Chrohn's disease. He's managed to control this pretty well for years with diet, and now they're trying to decide whether there's a medical solution, or whether they're going for surgical (surgeon seeing him tomorrow). WTF went wrong? Until this happened he was in tip-top physical shape, despite occasional poor patches (martial arts instructor, and beautiful to look upon – and I'm his aunt).

We have bush fires all over the shop – NSW, Vic, SA, Qld (but not here in the ACT). Specifically, there's a major fire just the other side of the road we take to Mudgee on Tuesday (to attend a concert series every year). Tonight they are expecting two changes of wind direction. I wonder what tomorrow will bring? When I think about that road running through deep isolated bush, I really don't want to meet fire. We're trying to keep on top of the fire incidents advisory.

And it seems fair to say I'm in some kind of self-destructive mode, in that I'm still having terrible trouble writing the fest fics I committed to, this season.

Typing - not a happening thing tonight

Not much to report from this weekend. Got a great new haircut - fierce! Started watching Veronica Mars - loving it. Had a big-ish fight with the best friend - still not quite sorted - will be days of oddness before it is all back to the status quo. Boring. Just get over it already - you know it means nothing in the scheme of things.

Oh - I made Quinoa & Cumin Hash Browns for breakfast - they totally rocked. Yummy.

The hot DVD store guy told me I was coming in too often and I was not to come back for at least a week. Bless him. Then told me he has the same problem at his favourite bookshop - and I'm like - snap - I work in a bookshop and have thousands of books. Then he had to go serve some other customer - oh well - tbc next time.

Now I'm starting to get serious Sunday Night Blues. I hate Sunday nights - I always sleep so badly. I'm lucky if I get 3 hours.

Six Impossible Things (Seth’s Morning List Remix) [The O.C., Seth/Ryan, 100 Words, PG-13]

1. Only sesame seed bagels left, and no cream cheese. My life, ladies and gentlemen.

2. Ate a bowl of Oreos for breakfast.

3. There’s a coffee ring stain on my X-men. I know I accidentally burned down Dad’s office, but a man’s comics are sacred.

4. Ryan kissed me to shut me up. Twice. (!!!)

5. Did a Samuel L. Jackson impression under my breath. Was sharing my bucket of popcorn, extra butter, with Ryan, when our shoulders bumped together. It was nice; not Summer-in-a-Wonder-Woman-outfit nice, but getting there.

6. Make out Share kisses with Ryan at the poolhouse.

Remix of [info - livejournal.com] theswearingkind's Sam Jackson Ain't Got Nothing on These Two (f-locked) for [info - livejournal.com] remixthedrabble. I haven't actually watched the episode on which #3 is based. One day I'll probably finish watching the O.C. Maybe. If only for more of Seth Cohen's wordvomit.

Random Television

Anyone see the "remake" of "The Prisoner?" They should have skipped borrowing a few decorations from The Prisoner like the title and The Village and just admitted they were making a not terribly original sci fi movie that had nothing to do with a classic bit of mid-century television. I figured it out early on and was mostly reading a rather dull history book with a clever title, "The Fabulous History of the Dismal Swamp Company."

The REAL Prisoner had charm, menace, paranoia, complexity, and was a statement of its time. I love it. This show was dull and predictable, even with names instead of numbers.

Watched SGU again, mostly because it was on and I like the nerd. I hate the episodes where we go back to earth for some soap opera and sex. This was primarily one of those. I don't know what the producers were thinking but it obviously wasn't "maybe we should make some good sci fi television about people isolated a million light years from earth." "Sanctuary" wasn't a winner either. Yeah, you killed off a primary character. Sure you did. Uh-huh. Pull the other one.

I did enjoy the almost final episode (sob!) of "Monk." The former former former police lieutenant. We knew he couldn't handle being back on the force after all those years on his own. And we knew Natalie would hate her new boss. So it wasn't full of suspense or surprise but just Monk being Monk. And Stottlemeyer being Stottlemeyer.

Television Without Pity--But Racism is Dandy!

Okay, I should have known better. But I was enjoying the SGU thread on TWoP, with all of the lovely snark. And I appreciated the fact that most of the posters seemed to get why having sex in someone else's body was skeevy, and why it's problematic that the black guy in SGU is yet another Angry Black Man.

Seriously--I should have known better. )

who wants to share writerly squee with me?

After months and months of not touching the keyboard, thanks to mini_nanowrimo, I'm back to writing daily. Each day in November (so far), I've managed to write at least 100 words. Go me!

But that's not the object of this post.

I've been thinking about what to do when Mini Nano is over. How to kick my butt and stay with the writing daily? And I've come up with an idea:

Is there anyone who'd like to open up a writer's group, so to speak (via email or whatever), where we can report our word counts, keep each other on track, and squee about our writing? I was thinking maybe we could give out prompts if someone fails their target or some such. What do you think, anybody for it? *puppy eyes*

REVIEW: Tunnels of Blood (Cirque Du Freak #3)

Tunnels of Blood (Cirque Du Freak, #3) Tunnels of Blood by Darren Shan

My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Well, I've stuck it out for three books with Darren and I'm actually enjoying the ride. While I don't normally enjoy whiny main characters, there's something about Darren (perhaps his keen intellect) that keeps you coming back for more.

Summary: Darren Shan, the vampire's assistant, gets a taste of the city when he leaves the Cirque Du Freak with Evra the snake-boy and Mr. Crepsley. When corpses are discovered drained of blood, Darren and Evra are compelled to confront a foul creature of the night who may prove to be the end of them all.

What I liked about this book: Darren is an enigma. He hates his lot, his likes his powers, he hates Mr. Crepsley, he likes Mr. Crepsley. He likes Madame Octa, he hates Madame Octa. In other words, he's your typical teenager with a see-saw of emotions that are now heightened by his vampiric powers. In this book, we meet Murlough who in the movie was kind of creepy and scary but wore the pirate-looking costume that Darren wears throughout the book. Darren meets his first crush, learns about the Vampaneze and comes face to face with evil. I love that you're on an adventure from the get-go and while the book paces along quickly, you don't lose yourself in the characters or the story.

My favorite parts, of course, are those with Darren and Evra. Best friends who pretend to be brothers traveling with their "father" Mr. Crepsley into a city that gives them an opportunity to bond, be teenagers and meet more humans. Of course, that also means danger for the pair but it gives them an opportunity to test that friendship too. Instead of a girl coming between them, an evil psychopath does. But hey, what's another monster in a world of freaks, right?

I'm enjoying the series so far. I will say that if I'd read the books then gone seen the movie, I would've been really pissed off! LOL

Why do we do it?

Interesting article on AfterElton: Why are Women Interested in Gay Men? It's Not Because They Want to Sleep With Them!* Fortunately it dispels the myth that gay men/slash just appeals to straight women -- 38% of these polled identified as lesbian/bi/other -- and the explanations offered are a little more sophisticated than the usual "it's just like men liking lesbians." I'm less happy that the wording on some of the questions assumed heterosexuality (bad, AE, bad!) and were painfully American-centric, but some of the comments quoted manage to go beyond these limitations. All in all, pretty interesting read.

Hi! My name is Minxie…

…and I'm a submissive. As in, a contracted and collared sub to my husband, Matt. D/s, BDSM, leather, lifestyle, call it what you will. It is what it is.

Originally, I intended to post something like an introduction because, as my fandoms branch out, there are new people on my flist. And I tend to be loud and opinionated when it comes to head exploding kink fics. Figured offering some insight to me might help explain the tangent rants I sometimes have. Along with the fact that most, if not all, of my fics have some display of power dynamics, no matter how subtle.

I'm sure those of you who know me best find that to be an understatement. Heh.

This has morphed, through conversations with friends, into not only a hey, this is me post, but also one that, for lack of tact on my part, is a whoa! let's think about this before you write it post. Mainly because BDSM comes under enough fire without having misleading works of fiction floating around out there stirring up more trouble than they're worth.

And, honestly, not trying to be a bitch, but if a piece of fiction disregards the basic principles of safe, sane, and consensual they really are more trouble than they're worth. They set a stage for others, those not in the scene, that can lead to misunderstandings, arguments, and, most important, serious injury.

Not cool.

Not when it takes just a few lines of dialogue, or even implied conversation to lend believability and credibility to the work.

To that end, I've started a list. Which is actually quite funny seeing as I despise lists. )

Got questions? Ask 'em. I'd rather you ask me something embarrassing than you make my head go splodey in the next fic I run across.

NC17 Pro-fic

Thanks (I think) to fjm on lj for pointing me at the winners of this year's Bad Sex Awards these are definitely NC17, all het-male pov and confirm my belief that, in this area at least, amateurs do it better.

Though I have to admit that I don't think that Richard Millward belongs in this company - his scene has an authentic ring to it, and at least has the virtue of being intentionally funny.
