aim log - kevin brocklehurst and elizabeth marceau Who: Kevin Brocklehurst and Elizabeth Marceau When: Dinnertime on January 23rd Where: Astronomy Tower What: A hot birthday snog ends up in lots of pain when Kevin realizes Liz isn't exactly single, per se. Rating: PG-13
Resisting the urge to practically sprint down the hall, Kevin had contained himself enough to walk at a leisurely pace, his dark eyes still looking out for any prefects that might have been lurking about. His birthday had never been a big deal to him, usually he just partied with his dormmates, and rolled his eyes at the austentacious presents his grandfather sent him. But receiving Elizabeth's owl , especially after not seeing her for weeks instantly solidified one thing. This was the greatest birthday he ever had, and he didn't even know what she wanted yet.
Taking the stairs to the astronomy tower two at a time, Kevin pushed the door open carefully, hoping that no other couple had gotten it into their heads to have a snogging session. Sighing, Kevin bit his grin as he looked around for Elizabeth, his hand going to the messy dark blonde of his hair.
It probably would have been easier to just have sent Kevin his birthday gift via owl, or have someone give it to him. Elizabeth’s decision on sending him a note had mostly been done on impulse. It wasn’t as if she was going to take it back, though, because she couldn’t deny it to herself any longer that she wanted to see him.
Elizabeth made sure she had gotten to the tower a few minutes, with a textbook or two so her roommates would believe she was going to the library. That way, if they missed her during dinner, they might not ask too many questions. Instead of the library, of course, she had shown up at the Astronomy Tower, waiting by one side of the room, looking out at the sky. Astronomy had never been her thing... too bad, because the stars looked absolutely gorgeous.
When she heard the door open behind her, she could only guess one other person to arrive at the designated time and she turned around.
Catching the slender profile of the girl in question, Kevin's mouth tilted to the side in a side grin, before he strode forward, containing his anticipation with a calm exterior and sparking eyes. "Hello," came out lower than he had intended, but he leant forward and touched his lips briefly to hers, drawing back just as quickly, his hands at his sides. His eyes flicked to the night sky before them, letting himself get distracted, fingers trailing the stone ledge in front of them. "You messaged me?" he asked finally, turning back to look at her with the smile still in place.
“Hi.” No doubt there was a smile playing at her own lips when he bent down to kiss her. Her own eyes glanced briefly at the door behind them hoping that no one would catch them. “I... yes, I did,” she said, before turning around toward her bag that was placed on the bench behind her. Reaching inside, she pulled out something square-shaped in silvery-gray wrapping paper. “Here. Bonne fete, Kevin.” Elizabeth held it for her to take, trying not to grin too much in pride. Though it definitely was something to be proud of considering how many people she had consulted it to get him this birthday gift.
Kevin arched a brow as he took the gift, not expecting one at all from her. He wouldn't lie, when she had asked to meet him here he had thought...pushing those thoughts aside Kevin cleared his throat, hands running over the silver wrapping. "Elizabeth, you really didn't.." his voice trailed off as the paper ripped away, the haggard face of Bob Dylan staring back at him. To say he was stunned would be an understatement, he didn't think anyone minus Ted knew about his obsession with Bob Dylan. Gaping, Kevin's eyes devoured the record cover, hands sliding over the cover, and inside to exam the vinyl "You-" for once Kevin was at a loss for words, and instead let out a little chuckle."I can't believe you got this for me, it's perfect, it's the best thing I've ever gotten," he leaned in and wrapped his arms around her, too pleased for words. Kissing her on the head as he pulled back, Kevin's smile grew larger as he fanned the record in front of her face. "Have you listened to it? It's genius, pure genius, the lyrics are-" he stopped himself, the excitement bubbling over like it had when he showed her his car, and he winced. "I'm sorry, I just, you-I couldn't have asked for anything better." His tone dropped an octave and he was pretty sure he couldn't have felt any more for the beautiful girl in front of him, but he was apparently wrong.
Elizabeth eventually let her smile grow bigger when she saw his reaction to it. “I have my way of finding out.” She had asked around, mostly the younger Hufflepuffs because she could probably intimidate them more. When they weren’t much of a help, she’d just gone straight to Ted and asked him. “I believe ‘zis means I did well?” she asked as she slipped an arm around his waist. She shouldn’t have been doing that. Hell, she shouldn’t have been there alone with him to begin with, but since they were already there, why waste the time?
He gave her a small closed lip grin and leaned down to kiss her head again. "You did better than well," his mind had drifted off to racing back to his dorm room and playing the record as loudly as he could until Josh hexed it, but at her touch, his mind gave a jolt and he glanced down to where she was touching him, an eyebrow raising again. Setting done the record on the ledge beside them, Kevin wrapped his own arm around her waist so that she was chest to chest with him, still giving her enough room so as not to feel crowded. "You seem to know me pretty well," he smirked, dipping his head slightly so that their faces were close. "Thank you for the gift," he uttered, before closing the gap and pressing his lips against hers.
Goodness, she had missed this so much! The last they’d snogged was New Year’s Eve, after she had admitted that his kisses plagued her mind all the time, especially after the initial one. And in the three weeks following that, snogging him like this again was mostly what was on her mind. She happily accepted this kiss too, as she tilted her head back. Her other hand went up to gently touch against the side of his jaw with her fingertips as she started to deepen the kiss.
Kevin smiled against her lips as she deepened the kiss, a little disbelieving that they were here, kissing, and not what was only months before, arguing. Wrapping his arm around her waist more he pulled her closer to him in one tug, chuckling as she hit his chest. Resuming the kiss Kevin tilted her head back, his other hand coming up to wrap itself in her long hair. He bit down on her lip slightly, his breathing sounding laboured in his own ears. "You know," his voice husked, caught in his throat, "this isn't a bad birthday present either." His teeth were replaced by tongue as he swiped the inside of her mouth, deepening the kiss as he began to move her towards the wall.
“I’m glad ye believe so,” Elizabeth managed to get out, already feeling light-headed herself. And any thoughts of her reputation on the line were completely forgotten about – as well as the risk of a prefect coming up here to catching them. The hand at his waist practically clung to his shirt when he started to kiss her again, but it surprised her that she was able to step back to the wall without her legs collapsing. When she felt the cold surface touch her back, she relaxed against it, moving the hand previously at his jaw up to the back of his neck and practically pushing him closer.
Kevin liked it best when she gave a little, to let him know he wasn't the one crazy enough to be feeling anything. It was reassuring, her wanting him, and it only made him that much more eager. Kevin's hands trailed from her hair to her waist, long fingers toying with the hem of her blouse as he dragged his lips from her mouth and began trailing kisses up her jawline. Mouth brushing past her right ear, he ducked his chin down and began kissing her neck, teeth biting playfully at her pulse point which Kevin could feel beating wildly. His hands trailed under her shirt slightly on their own accord, fingers touching flesh as he drew circles on her stomach. Kevin was never one to pressure a girl to do anything, in his relationship with Enid, she had been the one to take anything to the next level. It was different with Elizabeth, he couldn't help touching her.
While Elizabeth normally liked predictability, Kevin was the only exception. His kisses were surprising, and he changed pace and location so abruptly that she couldn’t tell where he was going to go next. But it was exhilarating. And it was probably best expressed from the slight breathless giggle she let out. It wasn’t an amused reaction, but more like... incredibly euphoric because she was having one of the best snogs ever. Her hand moved from his neck into his hair from the nape while she dared move the other one around to the belt loop of his pants, tugging him toward her.
Kevin let out a low groan as she tugged him closer to her, his pelvic bone pushing into her stomach. Raising an eyebrow he lifted his head frm her neck, a small smirk lighting his face. "Working fast?" he uttered lowly, smiling again as he took her mouth with his, his hands lifting her shirt up further as they inched upwards to the edge of her bra. Dear merlin what this girl was doing to him, pressing him closer to her. Kevin groaned into her mouth again and rocked his hips slightly pleasantly surprised that she was so playful. "I bet Avery never kissed you like this," his voice was husky as he broke away from her lips to nip again at her collar bone.
“Mmm, no...” This was purely intoxicating, that she let loose a slight moan of her own as his fingers moved up. And then, gradually, his words started to sink into her mind. Avery... Aiden! Oh, Merlin, why him? Why now? The thought of Aiden, suddenly had her stiffen and her heart now racing from anything but euphoria. Shite, what the hell was she doing? What if they got caught? What if the Slytherin prefects caught her here? Or worse, Aiden himself? She didn’t want this to stop, but when her mind was elsewhere, her hands weakened their hold on him.
Kevin didn't notice her lack of reaction until he felt her body tense in his hands. Confused, Kevin pulled back slightly, dark blonde hair slightly mussed. "What-what is it?" he asked, his eyebrows creasing with the question. Had he done something wrong?
Elizabeth looked up at him with a slightly surprised expression mixed with a little – no, make that lots of guilt. “I... no’zing. Just...” I haven’t exactly left Aiden. “Maybe, we shouldn’t... be doing any’zing here. In case someone...” Despite this, she really made no movement in stepping away from him. Or she couldn’t because she was up against a wall. “Or... Aiden...”
Kevin couldn't help but feel the sting of rejection as she moved to step away from him, confusion still evident on his face. "Why would it matter if Avery saw us, you're over." What should have been a definitive tone in that sentence ended instead weakly, with uncertainty. Kevin's was suddenly tightened, and he himself backed an inch away from Elizabeth, his hands still brushing her hips. "Aren't you?"
She couldn’t answer that. Shite, she just couldn’t. Or she could because she knew the answer. But either telling the truth or staying silent was going to be painful, no real difference between either choice. “I’m... I...” Damnit, when did she start feeling so terrible for hurting Kevin when a few months ago, she would have been glad that she had?
Any minute confusion Kevin still had on his face was instantly wiped off at her response, the inability to answer his question, answering it far better than had she actually said anything. Kevin's face twisted, he was surprised that it actually hurt, hearing this from her, when he had thought...oh what he had thought. "I don't believe this," he uttered lowly, his jaw clenched, and his face stone. His eyebrows creased and he brought his fingers up to pinch the bridge of his nose as he stepped a full 3 steps away from her. "I can't-I," he turned towards her, wanting to understand, but angry. "What the hell are you playing at? You'll snog me while you're still with him?" Kevin nearly spat, keeping his temper generally in check, but spiteful just the same. "I thought..." he trailed off and gave a disgusted noise.
He was angry, she figured. Well, obviously. Even though he kept control of his anger, his words still rang loudly in the empty room that Elizabeth found herself subconsciously taking a small step back. “No,” she started off weakly. “No, ‘zat is... it’s not what I meant– I mean...” Oh, fecking hell, was there any way to make this situation better? Not exactly, when she couldn’t even find the right words to say. She fancied him, she was well aware of that. Whether she fancied Aiden was a different story. Though she did but she was oblivious to exactly how much she fancied both of them.
"Well what do you mean Elizabeth?" he asked, his dark eyes pining her to the wall. His anger was just thruming in his body, his face stayed locked and eyes never wavered. He wasn't sure if a girl had ever hurt him this badly, and even the small sympathy that flickered in the back of his mind as he watched her cower was pushed aside.
“Kevin, I’m sorry,” she spoke, her voice barely a whisper. He didn’t scare her, per se, but seeing him act like this wasn’t really making her feel like the most bravest person in the world. “I’m sorry. I just... I don’t know.” Though Elizabeth risked it anyway and stepped slightly closer, feeling like she was on the verge of a breakdown. “I do like you. But...” If she could, she would have taken back that last word, because it probably made the situation worse. Nor did she know what to say beyond that.
"But?" his voice was hoarse and he blanched in complete disbelief. "You know how I feel about you, hell," he gestured wildly to absolutely nothing, "I thought what we were just doing made that perfectly clear. I fancied you...fancy you," he amended and then his face twisted into more confusion, he wasn't even sure how he felt anymore. He took a deep breath, and looked towards the ceiling, "I fancy you but I won't be the other guy," he turned his gaze back to Elizabeth, shaking his head as he backed away from her.
“No,” Elizabeth said, abruptly when he started to move away, though it was choked from the lump in the throat that she was trying to push back. At the same time, she stepped forward, she also grabbed the album she had gotten him as a gift. “Please don’t leave.” She knew why he would, but it was still a pathetic attempt on her part. If he was going to, at least she wanted him to have what she had gotten him. But, Merlin, did she wish he wasn't going.
Kevin stared at the album, the record that he had been so excited to receive and found he couldn't even fathom taking it from her. Not after this. He was being cruel, maybe, but he didn't think he was comprehending exactly what was going on here very well. He had thought that she liked him back, was free and that they could just...but no. Apparently not. "Tell you what," he started, his face suddenly gone impassive. "You keep the gift, enjoy it." He turned away from her, his fists clenching as he fought back the urge to shout at her. But no, not now, he had to figure this out.
As he turned again, she felt her own chest tightening, finding herself scared of breaking if he did leave with the situation like this and she stepped toward him again, laying her hand on his arm lightly. “No, Kevin, please...” Why couldn’t he just take it? If it was going to lie around in the dormitory, making her feel even worse than shite and she wouldn’t know how to explain it to anyone else, except maybe Christine.
Kevin tensed when he felt her hand on his arm, and before he realized his own hand folded over it. Staring at their hands Kevin felt disgusted with himself, for letting her play him, even now when he was supposed to be angry. Meeting her eyes Kevin watched as she practically crumpled before him, her apologies run out as she thrust the album at him. He let go of her hand and took it with his other, still staring at her. "You didn't even give us a chance," came his voice, rigid, but his eyes gloomy. "I can't talk to you right now...and on my bloody birthday," he uttered the last part lowly to himself before turning away from her again and stalking to the door, his figure disappearing down the steps.
Elizabeth fell completely still when he turned and left. Her hand that touched his arm was still in that position despite the sudden lack of his physical presence. He’d taken the album at least. But that didn’t mean this was any less painful. The extent of it surprised her so much, that she fell to her knees next to the bench where her bag lay. The lump in the throat came out in a loud sob and she leaned against it the bench to support her. Where did everything go wrong? They were having such a wonderful time before.
Sooner or later, she knew she was going to have to leave the Astronomy Tower rather than be found by someone while she was in a wreck. Still, she’d remain there throughout dinner, not really hungry anymore and then head straight to her dormitory.
