The Veridicality
Issue Two

And there it is, folks. Are we getting sick of the same speech trying to reassure us all that everything will be sunshine and rainbows despite the fact people are being sent to St. Mungo's or just plain missing?

Yes, it's true. It seems that the stellar Ministry of Magic that we put so much faith in to not only keep us informed but protect us from such evils has felt it necessary not to actually advertise the fact that the attack that happened on their own grounds earlier this morning wasn't nearly as filled with the sunshine and rainbows as the Minister is trying to paint. While there were no deaths reported just yet, there are a multitude of Ministry workers who were injured and several hospitalized - Jill Brandt, Amos Diggory, John Lupin, and Sheila Small, in particular, who are projected to be free to leave the hospital tomorrow morning.

However, there is still the matter of Sorrell Meadowes, who seems to have gone missing. Several members of the Ministry who were there to witness the hexes being shot off by the handful of masked people claim that near the end of the debacle she was stunned and then one of the masked figures Apparated away with her. This mystery writer's heart goes out for the friends and family of Sorrell and sincerely hopes that the Ministry will live up to their claims of doing everything they can in such situations to make them right.

Meanwhile, it seems that the Daily Prophet forgot to mention the floating and threatening bit of wandwork that was not only above the Ministry headquarters but inside the Atrium as well. While they have mentioned said smokey figure in previous articles, a minor bit of amnesia must have struck while writing the most recent and disgustingly short bit of news for you, the citizens, to keep up with the wizarding world in Britain. While we were unfortunately able to get a proper photograph to share with you just what to look out for, it can only be expected that unless the Ministry sees to change things on their end that they will be popping up in the near future as well.

I leave you, then, with a few lingering questions to ponder until next time. Why is the Ministry keeping out details like this? What is this disturbing mark that seems to be left behind whenever one of these so-called unrelated attacks occur?

And, most importantly, what will you be willing to do to stop this?

Minor Debacle in Atrium at Ministry

Minister says everything is fine

Reported by: Hannah Carlisle

Taking most everyone by surprise, a small attack occured in the Ministry of Magic today. A group of masked and unknown people entered the Atrium and began to shoot off hexes and jinxes at those who were in the Atrium at the time.

Minister Cavanaugh has given little comment on the attack, but has assured everyone that everything is quite all right and under control.

More details will be reported as they come to light.

WWN - Nights With Johnny B & Lunette [02/28/08]

Johnny B: So, who out there has been keeping themselves warm with new and mysterious letters? I know I have and I can't say I was entirely expecting the upbeat piece of parchment I received in response to it. How about you, Lunette?

Lunette: You know that I did, Johnny, and I was more than a bit surprised on what I received as well. The question is, though, are you thinking that it's a big joke?

Johnny B: Oh, I don't know just yet. You know what I do know, though?

Lunette: What might that be?

Johnny B: It seems that Minister Cavanaugh is pretty positive that it's a joke.

Lunette: You're telling me. In fact, in an interview he did earlier today with none of than Rita Skeeter - who was kind enough to give us this information, I might add - he made it abundantly clear that any information that is given to the public through that piece of mail is completely untrue.

Johnny B: Now, now, Lunette. It sounds to me like you're sounding as untrue as whoever is writing that thing. The Minister also said that all of those deaths and disappearances did happen.

Lunette: True, Johnny, but he also went on to say that while they might have happened, that there is no link between them or any of the other deaths and disappearances that have happened in the past year.

Johnny B: Interesting. All I can say, is I'm not so patiently awaiting the next edition of this mysterious article.

Lunette: You're not the only one, Johnny. (Slight pause.) Anyway, there you have it, folks. Minister Cavanaugh says that things are just peachy but whether or not you think that might be the case is up to you. Next up - the new hit "Keep My Cauldron Full" by the Split Seconds.

The Veridicality

The Donowho family. Heard of them?

No?

Well, how about Francis Wheeler?

Not her either?

Joel Severson? Kelly Hansen? Daniel Irwin? Olga Cunningham?

None of them?

They are all men and women who have either been found dead or are just plain missing. These aren't disappearances and deaths that have been from years and years ago. No, these are all occurances from not only a few months ago - but in the very past week. Some are Muggles. Some are witches and wizards. One is even a squib.

Why haven't you heard about these people?

The Ministry doesn't think that you, the people that they are paid to serve, can handle the truth. That you, the people whose money pays for their quaint little offices and catered lunches, can't hear what's really going on in the world without falling into some mass panic. They are convinced that were you to know the truth, see the world without the rose-tinted glasses they're forcing onto your face via the Daily Prophet, that you will, simply, not be able to handle it.

We don't believe that. We think it's rubbish. No, not just rubbish. It's shite plain and simple.

Are you going to stand for it? Do you want to continue being lied to? Continue to live in a haze without knowing what's true and what isn't?

We didn't think so.

Keep your eyes open. We'll be in touch.

MINISTRY SPENDS DAY BEING TRUTHFUL

Truth Serum slipped into water system leaves scar on Ministry

Reported by: Jonathan Wormiton

Ministry workers of all walks of life and departments spent Tuesday, February 12, under the effects of what was found to be a mild truth serium slipped into the water system by a member of the custodial staff. While the effects weren't strong, there were some members of the Ministry who found themselves answering questions that they would have, under normal circumstances, thought twice about shedding light on.

"It isn't that we have anything to hide," one worker that wishes to remain anonymous comments. "The Ministry tells the public everything that we know. I don't know why it was done."

Just why, however, came to light when Mordecai Hubb was caught attempting the same sabotage again just yesterday on Satuday, February 16.

Hubb claimed that in his position as a custodian, he was able to hear things that the general public was not able to witness or hear for themselves. He feels that, "Keeping things from the people who make society what it is is a crime and the Ministry should be punished for it."

While being taken to containment, Hubb yelled that he was part of an organization that was aiming to find information out and to bring it to the public's knowledge. While the name of this group has yet to be found, the anti-Ministry group is working towards finding out more about the mysterious deaths that have occured over the past year.

Whether or not this group is working in vain is still in question. The Ministry still claims that there is nothing being hidden from the public. Minister Cavanaugh says, "It's really quite silly. Why would the Ministry would even dream to keep anything from the people that we serve?" The Minister continued on to say that any information that the Ministry does find out is relayed to the citizens through reliable sources such as the Daily Prophet.

"Everything is fine," the Minister claims. "The only corruption is with the people who are pointing fingers."

SUSPICIOUS DEATHS OCCUR AT MUGGLE PUB

Four dead and several injured after what Muggles call gas explosion

Reported by: Kelsey Perithorpe

Aurors are investigating what are being deemed as several 'suspicious' deaths in Wark-on-Tweed, Northumberland. Amongst the dead are Isaac Fenwick, a Muggle, aged 58; Henry Turner, 42, a Squib living in the area who passed as a Muggle; and two Muggles. Several others were injured in what is being called an attack by the Auror department, including Meadhbhi Fenwick, 54, a witch.

While there are no suspects in these deaths, which are being investigated as a 'natural gas explosion' by Muggle authorities, it was reported that the same green figure that was seen over King's Cross train station and the Olson home was spied over what remained of the inn.

"It's a real shame, that," a local told the Daily Prophet. "The Fenwicks're decent folk, even got their boy going to a special school. Real bright one, him."

Other witches and wizards in the area evidenced concern over what seems to be a growing trend within the wizarding community.

"They're people, and good ones! Wasn't a better man than old Isaac, even if he were a Muggle. It's a shame, pure and simple. And that green thing. Merlin, reminded me of King's Cross and I got the jitters," said Merys Witherspoon, a witch from the area. "Don't know what's going on, but I wish the Ministry'd do something about it. It's rubbish, that's all."

Several statements were given to Ministry personnel on the scene that at least two masked and robed figures were seen Apparating away.

REPORTER FOUND DEAD AT HOME

Reported by: Derek Patterson

Early this morning, Darlene Widderwink, reporter for the Daily Prophet, was discovered dead at her home in Tinworth by her neighbour.

"I always stop at Darlene's on the way home after walking my dog," Edward Burton explained to Aurors who arrived on the scene shortly after the death was reported. "We'll always have a cup of tea before I go off to work. This morning, though, I got to the door and could see her on the floor through the window."

An inside source to the Prophet has assured us that there was no magic used to break into the house, nor was any used in the murder. Because of this, no evidence yet points to whether or not the murderer is of Muggle or wizarding lineage.

"I just couldn't believe it," Burton added. "How can something like this happen in such a quiet neighbourhood?"

That is the question on all minds as more details unfold. Rodolphus Lestrange, a recent feature in one of Widderwink's more recent columns, has been taken in for questioning, but there has yet to be any word on whether or not he has been arrested or if he is to be linked to the murder at all.

Tragedy Strikes the Lestrange House

Baby frenzy sparks unforeseen consequences! Bellatrix Lestrange made barren, Rodolphus Lestrange left in agony!

Reported by: Darlene Widderwink

The New Year did not ring in well for Rodolphus and Bellatrix Lestrange on their Norfolk estate! It was discovered that in the summer, after a great deal of trouble conceiving, the couple were expecting their first child. This reporter, having braved more than one danger, even found the Healer who dealt with the Lestrange family most usually. Upon pain of revelation, I conceal their identity, but assure you that the Healer suggested that the conception was both a shock and a surprise to the woman who was rumoured to be barren and the man who was said to be sterile! Great was their joy to finally achieve the purpose for which they were born: carrying out the bloodline of two noble English Wizarding families: the Blacks and the Lestranges.

Despite great wealth, prestige and youth, the couple took pains to conceal the pregnancy and more often than not chose to retire to their house in the countryside. It was on one such fateful night that Bellatrix Lestrange lost the child. Covered in mud and blood, body broken and cut with her husband wind chapped and soaked beside her, one could not help but question if they quarreled. Bellatrix, being well-known as a difficult woman with a terrible temper, might have driven stoic Lestrange to great wrath!

What will happen to them now? No child, no heir, a failing and loveless marriage! Gaze into your crystal balls, intrepid readers, consult the stars and write in! Perhaps, with the foreknowledge of the public and the wisdom of the masses, Bellatrix and Rodolphus Lestrange can save their failing marriage!
