Madison Valley Role Play

Greetings to you all!

I'm looking to start planning for an event, a festival for the solstice. It's not to replace any Christmas celebrations for those of you that have them, so it's not, it's just an additional day for merriment and folk are quite welcome to celebrate one or both.

The plan so far is to have a proper market-fair with all sorts of goods to sell, and mayhap those of you buying late Christmas gifts might appreciate it! Entertainment as well, and contests – we might have races, and games of skill, and mayhap even a riddle contest! Then in the evening a great feast, and then dancing, with real music.

The reason why I'm mentioning it so terrible early is that an event on this scale needs proper planning and to be sure I've not so much experience of that part. I'd like to set up a planning committee of sorts, mayhap three or four people who'd like to help out and work with me to make it a success. I reckon a proper festival is just what our little community needs to bring cheer to the darkest point of winter.

Have any of you any interest?

Lissa, Georgia and I have taken your concerns into consideration and discussion. In response for a request of our intentions we're releasing a brief statement of issues we deemed important and will therefore address at the first Council meeting.

The issues follow as:
- Guardianship for those under 18
- The ban of magic
- Use of the hospital facilities
- New arrivals

1. Guardianship.

We propose that financially stable Refugees present become guardians for any new arrivals under 18 years of age. You'll also be given first priority if a member of your family arrives, financial status notwithstanding. In order for this to be effective we've determined that volunteers should step forward if you're willing and able to take on a child. You should tell us the age group you're comfortable with, if you're comfortable with magic users, and how many children you are able to care for. In addition, the children already present should be given a choice about coming under the guardianship of Refugees or staying with their assigned family.

2. Magic ban.

We're against the ban of magic as a whole and will appeal to the Council to remove it entirely.

3. The hospital.

We've agreed that our population should be permitted to use the hospital services, as the separation from hospital to clinic has split resources and left the city as a whole exposed to health concerns that effect us all, Refugee and local alike.

4. New arrivals.

Given the treatment by the city many of us receive upon arrival, we're requesting that one of our number be present during the initial welcoming phases with new arrivals. We need several volunteers to be on hand for this task as new arrivals appear in the city at any hour.

Hey guys! This is the official Halloween party thread. You may tag into it ICly and interact with each other, or you may tag it OOC and just tell us what your character(s) did or are doing for the night. The hall was officially decorated by Caroline, there's food with the appropriate Halloween themes, music and general entertainment. Justine did also add in a gaudy Halloween sign that says 'Happy Birthday Harry' and there will be cake. There is a costume contest, I don't know how you guys want to decide who won that, but go for it and have fun! Justine is also personally greeting everyone and handing out bags of assorted candy.

Let's have a discussion.

Roland seems to have touched a nerve, so I'm officially asking everyone here:

1.) Do you feel unsafe? If so, who/what group are you worried about?
2.) If you do, why? Please mention whether or not this feeling is colored by previous experiences in your own timelines.
3.) What are some ideas you have for alleviating this problem, that you think could be implemented? We all have ideal solutions, but let's focus on pragmatics.

If you don't feel comfortable addressing some of these questions publically, feel free to either tell me privately in some way or say you don't feel comfortable. It's fine, but if you don't say anything at all, even to abstain from answering, we can't know your thoughts and consider them.

In terms of ideas, so far there's been Roland's suggestion of a protective force (which I object to, but I'm one vote). I'd also like to suggest the idea of escorting people, or setting up checks of some sort within the community for those who are interested.

The city has got some unfair ideas of what a man's to do with himself. Find work, aye I'd find work if there's any to be had. Though skills such as mine aren't all that relative to the times and place. I'd wager there's not much in the way of tanners or stone quarries.

There's a 90% chance it's going to start snowing. And the building may or may not start burning in the next hour.

So, congratulations to those of you who got elected. But as this is not a popularity contest or a beauty contest, your work's hardly over. We need to decide what it is you're actually going to do with your new power now, and it would be quite nice if those who elected you had some say in it.

I'm not really messaging you all with such a triviality, though. Rather I wanted to say that Pollux and I have found a new place to live! It's about time; the flat wasn't really big enough for him alone, and then I arrived too and it was terribly cramped. Our new home will be roomier.

Some people here can be so very bloody irritating.

Three doesn't seem like near enough people to me, but I suppose it's something we didn't have before. If we do this well and responsibly, maybe we'll be given more?

Anyway, I think we need to think carefully about who to send, and do this by consensus if at all possible.

Holy Mother in all my years I've not seen a peace keeper drive a man from the woods and back into the city proper. It's always been they're keen to push the sorry souls as far from respectable people as possible, else our indecency offend their delicate sensibilities.

Makes no sense to a man of my learning that he'd be charged a fee and told a place he could lay his head even in the wilds. If I'd had the coin to spare I'd take a room in a tavern and have a girl to boot. I'll not pay to lay my head on the ground.

For the information of certain people Maximus, Cuthbert, probably the Council if they're reading everything like I am:

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

I think it's fairly self-explanatory. It's also the law in America. All the Americas I've made a note of so far, actually.

It seems that a good deal of the trouble was caused by a child and his weapons. And because of that, they're punishing the magic users.

I've got a better idea - why don't we take the weapons away from ordinaries? There are far more of them, and the magic users haven't hurt anyone.

When I first arrived in this town I was a little put out to discover how openly everyone spoke about magic, since there are laws maintaining secrecy at home.

I did wonder how muggles would cope with the knowledge. I suppose we now see the results of that experiment, such as it was. Mr Dresden, you were entirely wrong.

Has anyone seen my brother? It appears he's run off again, although I'm told in this place one can't get too far, even one such as Valen with his restless feet.

It appears I am no longer home. How very curious!

Unless my dear husband has somehow found a way to change the scenery in the dungeons, though since he barely knows how to transform a toad into a teacup, I highly doubt that is possible. Did something happen with my spell-casting? Am I off somehow? And why is there so much bloody snow so early in the season?

I've never put much faith in the bloody gatzi, but I can't imagine anything else that could have brought me to such a strange, forsaken place.

Although nobody here could possibly understand how much it amuses me to ask this, where the hell am I?

EDIT: And although I know this is a strange and foreign place, I would appreciate if proper protocol were maintained.

I've not been in the market for a wife, I can't be so shackled, but this one's gone a long way toward it. I haven't a clue what the purpose is of half these items are or why I need them.

I get the hint when you give a man soap he's not seen in a season, and perhaps a hair brush but the rest of it I can't imagine serves a purpose. My teeth don't have fur.
