WHO: David Haller, Sage, Zatanna Zatarra and John Constantine
WHAT: David’s arrival
WHEN: Tonight
WHERE: Downtown
WARNINGS: David’s nuts?
STATUS: Closed/Started in gdocs, completed in comments
Why couldn’t they see??? It didn’t make sense to him not at all. Why were the X-Men fighting him? Why weren’t they helping him? He was doing all of this for them, after all. For mutants everywhere and for his father’s dream of peace and harmony. He was going to make it come true. He was going to make it right. They’d see. They’d see. He’d make them see and then they’d see what a good person he was what a good mutant he was what a good son he was and how he’d fixed everything for everyone and made everything right like it should have been, lah di dah. David, the hero of all mutant kind forever and ever amen. And if they didn’t see he’d make them go away. That was easy.
But why were they fighting him? And why did Bobby have to go and do that? Cold, cold, so cold everything everywhere all frozen he’d pay for that he would he’d see -
Wait, what?
David blinked, looking around himself. Where was he? Had he brought himself here somehow? No no no this wasn’t right. Not frozen good yes that was good but not frozen here was bad and he needed to be back there not frozen thank you very much so that he could kill Magneto and make mutantkind right forever. So where was he? Was he going crazy? No no no David that happened a long time ago not going crazy, went crazy gone gone gone! but he was used to that and he still had no idea where he was. Except that it was cold. Brr. But outside him not inside him so yay. So no bobby iceman freezing him jackass. But where was he when was he? At least he was still David, wasn’t he…? Yep, still David. Only David.
For now.
Looking down, he finally realized that he was hovering about four feet off the ground. Good, good, okay. The ground looked cold and he kinda wasn’t wearing shoes so not stepping on it was very very good yes.
Extending his mind beyond himself, he mentally explored the town, bumping into some familiar minds. Father was here, good, but different somehow. Weird. Bobby. Jerk. Remy. Rogue. Raven. Raven, nope she wasn’t going to kill him here either wherever whenever whatever here was. Is. And Magneto was here too, so he could still finish that and make things right. Like they should be. Happy. Harmonious. Heroic. Or that would be him after he killed Magneto. Yes.
And then there were others. Ones he didn’t know...other mutant minds other strange minds not mutants but threats maybe. Threats to him threats to his plans who would have to be stopped could totally be stopped by him. By David. By me.
He didn’t know where he was but he didn’t care. It didn’t matter. With his mind he could be anywhere and he was somewhere so it was fine. And that somewhere was also a good ‘where’ where he could complete his mission this somewhere was a good where wherever it was.
And with that, and without bothering to touch the cold ground, he made his way towards Magneto’s mind. He might have been crazy (was totally crazy) but nobody could say that he wasn’t dedicated to his quest. Which was absolutely a quest for good.

Sage kept tabs on the mutants that she could sense in town. Out of habit more than anything, to be honest. She liked to know where people were and really couldn’t turn it off. She’d been out for a walk when David arrived and it took her a half of a second to realize who it was that just popped onto her radar.
She pulled up a map with her glasses and laid over the places where everyone was on it. It was like a hyped up version of google maps floating before her eyes, with little graphical representations of where people were. The new one moved faster than the others, towards the one that represented Erik.
There was no mistaking who it was, though, and she took off at a run, calculating the quickest route to intercept him before he got anywhere near Erik, meanwhile prepping a message to go out to who she thought could contain him but not sending it, leaving it hanging on her terminal. She didn’t know what state he was in, but she’d rather be ready.
She cut her way through the city to get to him - sliding to a stop somewhere ahead of him. “David!” she called out, lips pursed into a slight frown “Stop, it’s alright!” she scowled, this wasn’t good, was it? She didn’t think so, not by the look on his face.

When the woman appeared David was planning to ignore her. He didn’t know her even though she felt weird and maybe like another mutant. He didn’t care. He had a goal in mind and he was going to get there and wasn’t going to let anyone stop him.
But then she called his name.
He stopped abruptly, looking down at her, his eyes (which were each a distinctly different color) looking at her curiously and suspiciously.
Without considering whether or not it would be rude (didn’t care if it was) he touched her mind...or tried to. It was closed to him. What? That had never happened before that he could remember. He pushed harder, and it just ended up giving him a headache.
He put a hand to his head, his jaw set. He didn’t like that, not at all, not even a little. Who was she to keep him out? HOW could she keep him out?
“Who are you?”
He hated asking. He just wanted to find out from her mind. Her mind couldn’t lie to him.
***
She felt each attempt, head tilting just a little, waiting for him to give up. She hated the feeling of anyone trying to get into her head. There was a reason she had turned her own ability inwards and created that impenetrable wall. Never again would get into her head.
“I am Sage. You are not where you were.” She kept her tone even, careful, polite. Trying not to alarm him anymore than he was already. She assessed and sent her message to John Constantine and Zatanna. She didn't trust Xavier to contain his own son, and she couldn't think of anyone who might be capable. It would take them time to agree to come, she knew this, and dedicated part of her mind to talking to them.
Then she refocused completely on David. “You're going after Magneto, aren't you? It isn't the same one you know.” She tried to reason even as she got closer. She prepared herself to contain him until help could arrive. It would not be fun. He was, physically, stronger than she was, though she was fast.
***
“Of course I am,” he said, his tone almost petulant. He was still floating in the air several feel above her but he wasn’t going to land because he was already chilled due to Bobby and his stupid freezing and he wasn’t going to make it worse. Reasoning with him, of course, was pointless. To reason with David presupposed that he possessed reason, that he could talk rationally and made decisions based on something logical. That was supposing a little (a lot) too much.
“And there’s just one. Just one and I’m going to kill him for father.” His words now were almost sing-songy, and he looked very pleased with himself.
“So you need to go away.”
He flicked his wrist and a powerful burst of telekinetic energy flung her hard into the side of a nearby building.
***
Sage had had to try, sometimes it was surprising, but she also knew it would not work. Not much did when he was like this. She sighed, this was not going well, but it fit her predictions, despite her hope otherwise. Sometimes she bucked the system and her own calculations in an attempt for a more favorable outcome.
This was not going to be one of those times.
“You…” she started to say something but was interrupted by the fact she was hurtling towards a building before she could say anything else. She twisted mid-air and hit in a fashion that wouldn’t break her face. She did feel her ribs protest the hit, and her shoulder blade crack under the wall.
She hated telekinesis.
But being in completed command of her body meant she could ignore the pain for the moment and push off the wall, launching herself at him, a chunk of the wall in her hand, a brick. One in each, she hadn’t brought her guns because she hadn’t had time to get them. She would let him hit her again, only so she could throw the brick at his head, the other thrown towards one of the larger icicles hanging off a building near him. She would use her surroundings to keep him busy at the sacrifice of her own well being.
He was someone that she couldn’t let roam the town after anyone.
****
Crazy, yes. He was. But he was also observant and wasn’t about to let this annoying woman hurt him like she wanted to. Instantly, a golden, shimmering shield surrounded him, protecting him easily from her attack. If she went so far as to hit it, it was as solid as the building she’d just run into.
“Go. Away.” He hissed, catching her mid-air with his telekinesis and lifting her higher higher higher until she was floating in the air, just waiting to crash to the earth at David’s whim. He held her there a moment, savoring his power and control over her before throwing her again, this time through the plate glass window of a nearby shop.
“Leave. Me. Alone. I won’t let you stop me. I won’t let you ruin this. I’m going to make things right.”
***
Sage didn't look panicked, instead she looked calculating, mind crunching the various numbers that would tell her the best way to hit the ground without dying. It was probability at it's finest. “Well, do it.” She said in reply as he held her up.
When he finally threw her she tucked so that the glass wouldn't do any major damage, oh she'd need sutures and would be picking glass out of cuts all night, but plate glass could easily be deadly. She'd take lacerations over a slit throat. She landed hard, taking it in the shoulder that was already broken, limiting the damage to any other limb. Blood trickled from dozens of cuts, dripping in her eyes from a cut on her head. She took the precious seconds to wipe it out of her eyes.
She pulled herself up and dragged herself out of the storefront. She catalogued her injuries and filed the information away for later. He'd made her head spin, though, so for a moment she was unsteady. She'd feel all this in a few.
As she started towards him again Zatanna stepped out of a magic door, dragging John with her. The younger woman looking at Sage, frowning a bit before she looked to John. “Let's do this before he hurts anyone else.” She had a hundred questions but right now they didn't matter. What mattered was stopping him from doing any more damage tonight.
***
“Why is it always us? Oh wait don’t answer that.” John had been grabbed and dragged into a portal by Zee before he could even come up with a protest and while normally he would be yanking his arm away to leave because he was still pissy about everything it was obvious that they were on the job when he saw the surroundings.
“Lock him down Zee, then we’ll figure out what needs to be done.” And he could ask the injured party who the fuck they were dealing with and what had happened. They’d need to know who and what he was to deal with it appropriately.
***
Oh come on what was this? Why couldn’t they just let him be to do what he needed to do? The two people who had just arrived weren’t mutants, he could tell that right away but they weren’t normal humans either. And he really really really didn’t like those words ‘lock him down’. He didn’t want to be locked down. He wanted people to just leave him alone so he could do the good thing he was trying to do. Because it was good. Why couldn’t they see that?
“LEAVE ME ALONE” he screamed into both of their heads, and his telekinetic shield shimmered as he mentally strengthened it. He needed to get out of here. He didn’t want to waste all his time and energy fighting THESE people.
***
Sage pulled herself all the way up, thankfully unaffected by his screaming. “This is David, he's in a hunt for Erik. Contain him and give me time to explain!” She yelled even as she wiped more blood from her eyes. This was troublesome and annoying.
***
Zee winced at the screaming then ground her teeth. Whatever issues she and John had weren't at play here, she trusted him explicitly. The team work was an easy thing to fall into and the first the she did was "sdaeh senim dna nhoJ otni gnilley dna gnitteg morf mih kcolB" effectively giving them some mental protection, though it wasn't impossible to get around, he'd run into a mental shield when he tried. After that scream they'd need it. Zee was on the move, so as to not leave them clustered, moving off to the rift, speaking fast.
"epacse ro evom tonnac eh os cigam htiw denehtgnerts leets fo sniahc ni pu mih dnib” she poured magic into it to strengthen the hold, she really didn't want him loose.
***
John had grunted and clapped his hands to his ears despite it not helping in the slightest for the mental shouting and when it stopped and he was able to take his hands down he ended up having to wipe the small dribble of blood coming from his nose and make a face for the thumping headache it had caused.
“Fuck, that wasn’t fun.” Once Zee had done her thing he pulled out a small stone and held it to help out with the mental shields she’d put on them when he walked over to survey her work.
“You nice and tied up now mate? Because you don’t have to be awake for whatever we’re doing.”
***
David felt himself tied by chains that appeared out of nowhere, chains that burned, chains that he couldn’t break with any of his abilities. He screamed like a trapped beast, unable to get into their heads either, he felt helpless and, yes, frightened.
“Let me go!” he shouted. “You don’t understand. I have to go, I have to go, I have to go, I have to kill him, I have to fix things and make them right, I’m not bad, I’m not, I’m not bad.”
Of course, nobody believed him when he said that.
***
Now that he was tied up and they weren’t going to die of telepathically induced migraines, Sage breathed softly and looked between the two. “This is David, he is Charles Xavier’s son and he’s… quite literally insane.” she wiped her hand over her eyes and plucked a piece of glass out of her forehead, dropping it on the ground.
“He has multiple personalities, telekinesis, telepathy, pyrokinesis, he can warp time, among other things. He’s currently on a mission to kill Erik, or as he knows him, Magneto. I think if we can isolate the three main personalities - there are a few - and wrap up his time warp bullshit, we have a high probability of managing this.”
***
Zee kept most of her focus on David, side eying Constantine though. “Well that sounds like fun. And not someone we want running around Madison Valley. “ she took in a deep breath. “you don't ask for much do you, lady?” She asked Sage before looking at John. “I'll give you whatever you need, you're better at that binding than I am, but I've got loads of energy to spare.”
