Spender really hadn't been kidding when he'd said the town wasn't the weirdest thing to happen to him. He would forever give that honor to learning of the alien conspiracy, to the way he'd suffered at his father's hands after the man had shot him, to the knowledge of William Scully -- Jackson van de Kamp -- and what he really was. To those things and so many more. Madison Valley was a refuge for him, albeit a refuge he didn't trust worth a damn.
He knew he needed to start exploring the town, to start learning his way around, but he could get to that. At the moment, he was far more interested digging into the who of the town and not the what or the where. And that meant tucking himself away at the most obnoxiously people-centric place he could think of.
It had always been easy for him to blend in, to be quiet and unassuming. He'd put that to good use over the past decade and a half, had crafted a new personality for himself. Living where nobody knew him had helped that, though teaching in the area where he'd spent large chunks of his adult life working hadn't been as helpful. He'd managed, though, and it was those skills -- or variants thereof -- that had Spender both quietly observing people and scrolling through his phone, while looking particularly involved in neither.
He was, though. He very much was.
