New Security Updates for Mac OS X

As of Tuesday, March 18th, Apple has released Security Update 2008-002 v1.0, for current versions of Leopard and Tiger, which would seem to cover quite an array of issues.

As always, you can use Software Update, or take your pick of standalone installers:

10.5.2: Universal (50 MB)

10.4.11: PPC (68 MB)

10.4.11: Universal (103 MB)

Server versions of the above, plus Safari 3.1 and other updates, are also available from Apple's Support Downloads page.

Now, if they could just keep those darned kids off my lawn ...

Ironically, my hard drive dropped dead ten minutes after installing those XD

And I believe you have heard about how that's turned out based on the thread in that Other Post XD

Yeah. I wish I could be of more help. I had hoped by now that this comm would have picked up more experts (unlike myself), and been more active. OTOH, considering how I've neglected it, I should expect it to be dead by now. But new members still keep drifting in, little by little.

I've managed to avoid problems so far by keeping multiple backup clones, but with my old G4, that's cheap and easy. Laptops are another matter. And I know exactly nothing about Entourage ... except how to pronounce it. :-p

Yeah, I can barely function with macs -- I got it because it was cheaper than a PC with the same specs (and because I knew it would be getting heavy use, as a commuting graduate student... and that's the one thing my PC laptops have never done well with, overheating). It was working fine until... it dropped dead for no reason. Which has pretty much ruined my spring break, LOL. Luckily everything was backed up (by sheer coincidence, thank god -- I'd been having fan issues the week before and backed everything up before I brought it into the Apple store for THAT.)

LOL, yeah, I seem to be the only person I know who uses it...? But my university's webmail is a pain in the ass (it logs you out after 15 minutes, and it's a 3-step login process... the interface is actually nice though), so a desktop client is the way to go.

Oh, I'd much rather be on a Mac (I've got both). My first 'pooter was a G3 iMac, and I loved it quite literally to death. But I just never learn any more about any computer than I absolutely have to. Being dirt poor, that means sometimes figuring out bizarre "fixes," or ways to use freeware apps that no-one would ever want to hear about. Or jury-rigging ten-year-old hardware with a peanut and a piece of string. You should see my "custom" removable three-drive carrier in my old Dell! X-D Though, to be fair, it's no longer held in with an old bungee cord!

Ya know, I'd think colleges universities would be uniquely positioned to have the very best web facilities, but that never seems to be the case. College of the Redwoods? -- Worst Website Ever. And the Computer Science Dept. websites are always something the department head coded by hand for a class project back in 1985. Craziness. X-p
