Nickname: She prefers Sophia, but if she'll let you get away with it, she's been known as "Sophie" occasionally. Age: 23
Birthplace: Phoenix, Arizona
Sex: Female
Occupation: Recent graduate of NYU majoring in Journalism. Currently, she is unemployed.
Appearance: Standing at five foot six, with a slender build, hazel eyes and natural blonde hair. Not the curviest, but can definitely hold her own in the looks department. As a wolf, her coat is light blonde, similar to her hair.
Personality: A natural survivor, Sophia is strong, streetwise and determined. She doesn't indulge in whims or fancy much, preferring cold hard facts. Sometimes her sarcasm and slight attitude gives off the impression that she has a bit of a chip on her shoulder so to speak. Not that it's an entirely incorrect impression, but she's actually more protective of herself than cold. She's been around, seen a lot and is a little jaded. Once you tear away the guarded exterior, you see that it's all for her own safety because deep down she's more vulnerable than she would ever admit.
Once she does let someone in, she's entirely loyal, loving with all she is. She likes having friends and relationships, and can be quite charming. As much as she detests the act, she would rather be false and sweet than burden anyone with her problems.
The stubborn streak that earned her a name in the journalism world has a tendency to cross over into her personal life. Her passionate and fiery nature has helped her and gotten her in trouble several times in a variety of ways. That, like many of her personality traits, are a double edged blade, both damaging and beneficial.
Special abilities/talents:
Sophia is a fast runner, a hobby and talent she's had since childhood. Her ability has only strengthened as she's gotten older. Speed relates to all of her, how she thinks, acts and moves. She has a good way of reading people, being able to catch onto someone's motive and personality quickly, accurately. Sophia is an amateur photographer as well, and appreciates the art very much.
Supernatural Affinity: Species/Group: Lycanthrope/Cursed werewolf Power(s): All those belonging to a werewolf. Level: N/A Affiliation/Rank: None as of yet. Lone wolf. Preferred Prey: Though she prefers to run rather than hunt, the more challenging the prey? The better. When she loses control and Changes, she doesn't care what the prey is, be it rabbit or human as long as it poses a pose a worthy game.
History: Born in Phoenix to a mathematics professor father and a fight attendant mother, Sophia had what can only be described as a fairly average childhood. She had two older brothers, Seth and Shane, each born the following year after the other. Her brothers loved, protected, and naturally teased Sophia mercilessly. Your typical siblings. However that encouraged rebellious strength in her rather than turning her submissive. Every prank, trick or joke at Sophia's expense was retaliated with twice as much cunning. Yet no matter the circumstance, the three of them were close, especially when their parents fought. This, unfortunately was often.
At the tender age of thirteen, her mother and father decided to divorce. Their divorce was a result of their clashing personalities and her mother's long going affair. Her mother, Lila, moved to New York to be with the tycoon she had gotten serious with and eventually married, submitting custody of the children to their father, Stephen. Of course they missed their mother, but anger at her affair was something none of the children could forgive easily. They did manage it, but with time. Sophia was always close to her father, the kind but stoic man he was, so she was glad with the arrangement.
After the divorce, Stephen threw himself into the upbringing of his children and his work. Though Sophia didn't take after her father's love of mathematics as he had hoped, like her brother Shane, she was a great writer and found solace in it. Growing up, Stephen taught Sophia to be strong, proud. He didn't want his daughter to allow anything or anyone make her feel inferior and it was a lesson well learned.
Being raised the same manner as her brothers were was the one thing in her life that didn't change with the divorce. Sophia did all she could to keep up with Seth and Shane, surpassing them in some areas. Though never a tomboy, she always up for whatever risk they were willing to take, any challenge that lay before them. Hiking, camping, swimming, rock climbing and travel, they did it all.
Lila discouraged this when Sophia went to visit, her expectations high for her daughter. She wanted her to do all the things Lila hadn't, neglecting her sons slightly in the process. That angered Sophia, and she did all she can to dissuade her mother's hope for turning her daughter into a debutante. The life her mother and her wealthy husband led amused her to no end and she kept it no secret. It was all a show, complete with actors, setting, false dialogue, and shiny things to keep them distracted. Perhaps that's why she sought a profession in discovering the truth.
Always writing, she took a class in journalism after being accepted to NYU, and knew at once she found her calling. It had always appealed to her, but the journalist inside of her was unknown until her skill was put to use. During her time at NYU, she quickly ascended to editor of the collegiate newspaper and earned two internships at New York Times. She even wrote a couple pieces for the Village Voice. Small articles, but her name in print nonetheless. A life, one of her own making, complete with friends, family and career she loved were beginning.
However, her life would be irrevocably changed only months after she graduated. While going back to Arizona for the celebration of Shane's wedding, her brothers along with a group of old friends decided to take a camping trip to commemorate the occasion. Nothing unusual for them.
They all decided a night swim would be fun. Splashing and joking, they recalled stories in the water, reminiscing about good times and hopes for new ones to come, congratulating Shane and his fiancé. After awhile they decided to head back, but Sophia lingered, enjoying her surrounds she'd missed so long under the bright full moon. It was the last night they would have it that month. She promised her brothers she wouldn't be longer than fifteen minutes so to curb their protective instincts.
Absorbed in the serenity of the water, she didn't know anyone, or rather anything was close. Eventually she got out of the water and grabbed her things, assuring herself that Seth and Shane wouldn't be upset that she had lagged a few minutes longer. Once she began walking, she repressed an anxious shudder at the feeling she was being watched. Keeping on, she walked a bit faster.
As she turned a corner in the woods, out of nowhere a massive wolf, unlike any she'd ever seen, pounced into her path. Before she could even process what was happening, it was barreling at her. She instinctively ran, screaming, using the speed she'd spent a lifetime accumulating. She was hoped to lose it in the woods, but no matter how fast she ran it kept gaining on her...more...and more...until she felt the wolf's sharp teeth sink into her leg.
The others heard her screams and came after her, one of their friends bringing along a shotgun. The wolf heard the explosive sounds being fired off in warning and let go of Sophia, fearing for it's own life apparently.
They took her to the hospital as fast as they could, seeing her seem ill due to the bite. After given a clean bill of health, her leg being only slightly mangled. She seemed to recover quickly, only the barest of scars showing. If you knew better, you'd say too quickly.
Sophia returned home to New York. She was changing and knew it, but refused to admit it to herself, trying to pass it off as a fluke, something anything other than the truth. She ignored the fact that her senses had suddenly increased so dramatically, so much she had to breath though her mouth in the city in attempt to block out the myriad of scents bombarding her. She could hear conversations so well, whenever she was in a public place she could answer someone who was across the room. But the third night she blacked out she couldn't, wouldn't ignore what was happening to her anymore. How can you ignore the fact that you've just woken with no memory for the third time, and now there are blood stains on and around you?
It was the next day when she went to work, attempting research, when she heard it. Someone saying how there had been reports of a rabid dog in Central Park, but a so enormous it was impossible. The 'dog' had apparently killed an undercover police officer while he was posing as a drug dealer. As Sophia listened to her coworkers tell the tale, she relived pieces of it, the glint of the officer's bright metal badge in her recollection, the one he'd flashed the people looking for a fix.
Three weeks later, Sophia was in Arizona, using all the time beforehand to arrange a sabbatical. Just hours after the plane touched down, Sophia had another blackout when she passed a car crash on the way to her fathers. It was the scent of blood so close to the full moon triggering her Change. Something she couldn't discard, and could not ignore.
Sophia left, telling her family, friends and coworkers she was burned out, that she wanted to see the world before she settled into her career. The truth was she feared for their safety. For a year she's moved from town to town, never stopping, scared of what happens when she gets too close.
Flaws:
One of Sophia's biggest flaws is proud nature. She is used to being self sufficient and independent to such an extreme it's detrimental to her. Accepting charity is not only uncomfortable, but shameful in her eyes. This doesn't apply to anyone else, only her, as does the loathsome task of asking for help. It feels like a debt she owes someone, no matter how menial the favor. Sophia makes certain she is indebted to no one.
Intrinsically defiant, she likes to go against the grain just for the sake of doing it, because she can. However if it's a challenge, something someone says can't be done, it becomes irresistible. She'll disregard any warnings and throw caution to the wind to make sure she can attain it. Though this tool made her an asset as a journalist, it is something that's also gotten her in a few bad relationships and even more complicated situations.
Straightforward to the point of tactlessness is counted as one of many of Sophia's flaws. Journalism is such a part of her, she's used to asking the tough questions and calling things like she sees them. She won't say anything behind your back that she wouldn't to your face, and does. Quite a lot. Sophia’s bluntness has made her seem rude occasionally, and created and enemy or two.
Her nature as a werewolf is something she hates and fears most. She despises the uncontrollable side of herself, the animal inside, yet has no power over it. Sophia is scared to death of what she's capable of, what she is, and what it's possible she can do.
Practically tone deaf, admittedly, she's an awful singer not even bothering to try. She will sing along to music if it's loud enough to drown her voice out. It's lucky she can even howl without it being annoying.
Merits:
Her courage is something that she's aware and slightly proud of. It takes a lot to intimidate Sophia. She bows to no one and makes it aware. Little phobias aren't something she contends with. She doesn't jump at the scary parts of movies, worry about sharks, or spiders. She definitely isn't afraid of a fight or anyone's temper. She can take it all with a cool demeanor that rarely breaks.
Sophia is intelligent and a fast learner. Like her gift for speed in her body, it also applies to her thought process as well. She is cunning, resourceful and witty, quick with ideas and creative
