Benjamin Elijah Levinsky
Character Information
Name: Benjamin Elijah Levinsky
Nickname: Ben, Benj
Age: 24
Birthplace: San Francisco, California
Sex: Male
Occupation: Research Librarian
Appearance: 5'11, Lanky, but slightly muscular - not so much that you can really tell when he's got clothes on though, dark hair and eyes, olive complexion. He's got that boy next door kind of attractiveness.
Personality: Studious and introverted, initially seems very quiet and serious, but has a good (if goofy) sense of humour once he comes out of his shell. Has a tendency to babble on a bit about subjects which interest him, if you get him talking. He's a bit awkward around women - especially pretty ones, and perhaps a touch unsure how to act around children as the result of having been bullied by other kids when he was a child.
Like Fox Mulder of the X-Files, Ben wants to believe. He has no interest in exposing supernatural beings, but he'd love to know the truth about them, purely for his own gratification.
Special abilities/talents: He has an IQ score of 178, an eidetic memory, an encyclopaedic mind and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Can identify many plants, insects and animals on sight. Very good at sketching, though he claims it's a learned skill rather than artistry. Learned some basic self defence as a result of being bullied in grade school. Proficient at camping and fishing as the result of numerous trips with his father to collect various botanic samples.
Supernatural Affinity:
Species/Group: Human
Power(s): Geekiness
Level: Of geekiness? Very high
Affiliation/Rank: N/A
Preferred Prey: N/A
History:(must be at least two paragraphs)
The son of a British English professor (his mother) and an American Biologist (his father is a botanist, to be exact), Ben has dual citizenship for the UK and the US. He's spent most of his life in California with his parents, and attended Stanford University in San Francisco, but also decided to take a year at his mother's alma mater, the University of Oxford in England. He's recently completed his bachelor's degree in Library Science. (One of three degrees he's working on, the other two are Biology and English respectively)
Coming home from his year abroad, He decided to take the cruise to relax and see the world while he took a short break from study. He's still working on his bachelor's thesis in Animal Biology (although his real interest is in preternatural biology), and having heard of an unusually large wolf pack in North Dakota, he did some research on their territory and found a few intriguing tidbits of information on Mysteria. Seeking more information, he clicked around the Mysteria library website, and decided to apply for a part time position at the library while he works on his biology thesis on the wolf pack of Mysteria. (*snicker* little does he know the wolf pack is actually supernatural.)
Flaws: (must be at least three flaws) Don't just list the flaws but describe how they affect the character.
Klutzy - not always, but make him nervous, and he'll start tripping all over his feet and making embarrassing slips of the tongue. Pretty girls - particularly one he's attracted to, just make it worse.
Socially Inept - Ben's sort of shy and reserved, and generally doesn't do well with large crowds of people.
Insecure - Ben lacks self confidence, mostly on a social level. He could never be a teacher like his Mom, because the idea of talking to a whole room full of people is terrifying.
Merits: Don't just list the merits but describe how they affect the character.
Intelligent - He may only be human, but the boy is super smart. We're talking child prodigy skipped several grades kinda smart. Thus the multiple degrees.
Organised - He's a librarian, so it's probably a good thing that he's detail oriented and organised.
Kindness - He's a genuinely nice guy, the kind who would give up his seat for an elderly person on the bus without having to be asked.
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Portrayed By: Adam Brody
Anything else:
- Skipped several grades, making him several years younger than his classmates when he graduated high school.
- Is a librarian not only because he's a total bibliophile, but because it allows him to educate people on a one on one basis, whilst also learning about all kinds of different things himself.
