Appearance: Nyobe is the definition of a clean appearance. From her strict physical fitness regimes, she has square, muscular shoulders and a strong chest and midsection, which causes her modest breasts to appear a little smaller. Her natural body type is a 'pear' and her hips have proven they will never go away, because if her workouts don't do it nothing will. Instead her legs are trunks of muscle hidden under well tailored pants that go just a half-inch higher than the current style might dictate. She usually wears a crisp, button down shirt with the pair of trousers and some stylish flat boots when she's on duty. On her days off it's usually linen pants or denim jeans with a plain top of some sort without any frills. She tends to wear neutral colors and blues or reds. Her hairstylist dictates what it looks like and, in a singular display of real vanity, its usually dyed a little honeyish and straightened on a regular basis. Usually its just tied back. although sometimes she'll large-curl it. Makeup done only because it is expected of her. Creme rinser blend, clear mascara, clear medicated lip gloss.
Personality: Intense is the word anyone, literally anyone, who knows her casually or otherwise would use to describe her. Intensely loyal, intensely dedicated, or intensely obsessed. Nyobe inherited a mission on day 1 of her life from her mother. She was there to exceed, to make a difference, and to live a life her mother could not. The concept of drifting is unknown to her. Nyobe's sails have always been wide and unfurled to catch the wind. The truth is that this obsessive quality is often driven from anxiety. Everyone she has ever known has, in some way, let down her trust. Her mother's inability to make some right decisions, her uncle's inability to fight his alcoholism, her best friend's foolish disregard for her safety that got her killed. The list goes on. It isn't anyone in particular's fault, leaving her without anywhere to direct the anger that surely lies within her. The burning rage that unleashes itself when she's cornered her deserving quarry. It's this conflict of love and loyalty to people mixed with her intense distrust of them that probably best indicates the person she is. Nyobe will tersely tell you why you're stupid, an asshold, a bigot jerk, but will be the first person to turn around and help you when you're in need. Her friends grit their teeth half of the time when they talk to her, but when they moved, she was ready to help before they were and carried more than perhaps anyone else. For practicality reasons, she tends to try and keep her mouth shut and be more of an acter than a doer. Because her actions are often much kinder than her words.
Special abilities/talents: *Driving/Riding: While not a professional Nascar racer or street racer, Nyobe's been in a small number of car chases. She's had formal training in urban car driving with domestic vehicles, dirtbike and motorcycle training (she can even do some tricks), and can ride horseback. *Firearms: Nothing exactly SWAT, but Nyobe knows her way very well around your standard rifles, shotguns, and pistols. She prefers a handgun that packs a real wallop and has always been an excellent shot. Can reload and assemble a weapon at a speed that a drill sergeant would envy. *Paperwork: Nyobe is so anal retentive and detail oriented that her reports make police clerks nearly weep with envy. *Fighting: Nyobe is no mixed martial arts champion, and you won't see her leaping onto tall buildings like Michelle Yeoh. After she was fourteen she switched from your general Aikido and Tae Kwon Do to boxing and kick boxing. She's fast and wiry, so many of her opponents are taken off guard when she drops an Aikido stance and knocks them upside the head with a couple of lightning-fast rabbit punches and follows up with her specialty: the left hook. *Criminal Justice degree *Miscellany training: Some parkour (she ended up hating the idea of people leaping about public property) and other things she may have taken for a time or two, played varsity college baseball--yes, with the boys. *General knowledge of the supernatural; some of it is definitely misinformation and there are any number of gaps in this, but Nyobe's sort of generally aware of what's out there, and what they tend to do to humans and how one would fix that. *Karaoke: Her voice isn't anything home to write your mother about, but if you get a few drinks into her and on stage, she can bring the house down with a raspy number or two. Usually has a lot of shock value.
Supernatural Affinity: Species/Group: Human, no particular powers or abilities.
History: Nyobe Whyte was born to a well-meaning high school student, Raquelle Whyte at the age of 17 in one of Atlanta's seediest projects. Raquelle's own youth was punctuated by long strugglest with her degenerative bone disease. Ignoring doctor's orders due to her strict faith, she had her daughter, even if she was out of wedlock and young. She had been tricked by a false love and, like her bones wouldn't if broken, her heart refused to mend for the love of men. Instead she focused her life and her energy, struggling often through debilitating pain, onto helping raise her daughter with her kind, if alcoholic, brother. Any free program that would teach her daughter something to help her in life she was enrolled in. Gymnastics, dance, swimming classes, children's fitness. Grants and sympathetic parents paid for equipment, offered rides, and even sponsored her serious-faced daughter as she grew up, her mother's determination and will to ensure her daughter would be something she couldn't before she passed. When she was 10 she was accepted on a 'scholarship' (a kind word for charity) by a martial arts studio after five girls on her block (two in her same building) had been brutally attacked. Being proactive, her mother wanted to make sure her daughter, taller than the rest of the girls, wouldn't be mistaked for any of those girls and be able to protect herself. Nyobe had trouble making friends due to her obsession with creating herself to be some sort of champion, having dreams of lifting herself, her mother, and what close friends she had out of the nightmare of sickness, alcohol, and crime that she perceived them as living in. It was chalked to a miracle of faith by her church that her mother survived to be forty. By that time, Nyobe was in her 20's and had become a beat cop for the APD and had her degree in criminal justice. Living on the bad side of time had her witness to many tragedies and, as she got older, she saw a sinister shadow creep into its alleyways and crack houses. Nyobe was an exceptional officer, taking extra driving courses, being licensed to patrol on horseback, motorcycle, patrol car, and even out of uniform. With her martial arts training and exceptional pistol skills, she was even sent on a dangerous undercover mission that won her accolades on a state level. She declined numerous offers to train for the feds or even the state. Atlanta was her home and she had sworn to protect it. There was a sinister shadow creeping into its alleys and killing girls on the streets and people in the crackdowns. Sad alcoholics and forgotten old women. Tragic young men and women who were hardly chalk outlines to people outside of their block and court records. Nyobe became obsessed with no one's willingness, or ability (staffing and budgeting was already limited) and soon took to the streets herself. What she found was horrifying, the whispers in alleyways of true monsters and beasts. On a full moon she saw it herself, as her small apartment she shared with her uncle was invaded by some man beasts and he was shredded and mauled protecting her. But his sacrifice was not in vain. They were stronger and faster, but there were only two and Nyobe was a quick shot. Soon, her seeking for more information about these beasts --she was more of a believer, put her into contact with people on the force and off who believed or knew as well. Nyobe was aided by pulled strings to become a detective and state police deputy. Soon she was pulled around the state, sometimes on vacation days taken for just such a reason, to investigate crimes and hunt the ones outside of the law. Armed with her wits, her short lifetime of near constant athletic and practical training and her own experience, Nyobe gave those once fearless beasts something to fear. Having converted two others to her cause, the horrors she had witnessed began to sink in. Even as her obsession with uncovering this conspiracy and the crimes under its canopy grows, so does the horrors she sees when she closes her eyes. She claims to have left Atlanta for Mysteria, joining their force, as an investigative procedure, but the truth may be a little closer to that the wounds had grown too big, mentally and physically, for her to bear without some healing. Small injuries and pinched nerves from stress started to ail her. While her outside facade never cracks, when she's alone and everything is quiet, she freezes with fear and alternately burns with vengeance for all the innocents in the world hurt. Nyobe Whyte, Mysteria Police Force Detective is a conflicted woman. A quiet figure that many know on sight (or purposefully avoid), but few really know. She's there to keep the peace. More than a simple hunter, she's learned, out of practicality at least, to tolerate those supernatural who do not hurt others. However, those that would, and this includes enslavement, they will have to answer to her.
Flaws: (must be at least three flaws)Don't just list the flaws but describe how they affect the character. Nyobe's a talented, impressive woman with many strengths for an adult human of any age. Her Obsession with succeeding has taken a wayside to her now dominant obsession with Justice. When Justice is knocked aside to terrorize innocent people, when people or creatures kill, hurt, or destroy the hope of people for nary but their own want, a fire burns inside her. The Obsession leads to Vengeance and Nyobe feels a most frightening emotion that calls to her. It's an actual physical feeling in her chest and stomach, it tells her what she has to do, to quiet the stirring inside of her, to correct the Wrongs, to make something Right again. Because of her intensity and the nature of her Obsession, Nyobe has been a Loner for most of her life and it's only gotten worse since she moved. Old friends and coworkers used to force her out of her shell on occassion. No one has enough history with her in Mysteria to care enough to get past that intense Paranoia one can see in her eyes when she stares at someone. The way she instantly measures someone upon contact with them. A simple exchange of hellos can even make some people uncomfortable. Especially for some patrons who are more...'obvious' or suspicious than others. Nyobe has an intolerance for outright criminals and 'dangerous' supernaturals. While she does not outright attack them, disapproval is all over her face. Still, Nyobe is Conflicted, because she herself has done some terrible things in the name of Justice. Some nights she is wracked by horrible Nightmares. The worst thing about them is that they're based on real events. She has seen things that she believes no human woman was meant to see. And some monstrosities of the unknown have died in some horrible ways by her hand. She tells herself that they didn't deserve to live, that they had no souls, but somehow she cannot fully justify it to herself. There's a little denial in the bonfire that fuels her Obsession. Over at The Diner, they're well aware of her allergy to berries. Every Thursday afternoon she goes there for lunch and no longer has to ask what pie they have without them in it. The waitresses know her.
Merits: Don't just list the merits but describe how they affect the character. Now that the flaws out of the way, it's pretty obvious that she's not exactly a Peach to deal with in most cases, but there's a reason why she hasn't ever been run out of town with Torches. Well, firstly, her Judicial Ties. Some people upstairs both in the know and out of the know like her. She looks good on paper, they don't have to deal with her on a regular basis, and she gets things done for less pay than she probably deserves. For those in the know, she has proven to quickly become an invaluable asset on the frontline. She's so invaluable because, in so many ways, she is Dependable. Her daily schedules are very rigid barring extenuating circumstances and, when something calls for her attention, you can bet she's on that like green on old bread. What's more is that she can handle most situations acceptable well and has an impressive array of miscellany skills and knowledge. Some might even say that, as far as detectives and technical vigilantes go, she's a Jack-of-all-Trades. What's more, Nyobe' s a Fast Learner and, even if she does not know it for the time at hand, chances are she'll follow-up with some research afterwards to add to her arsenal. It helps that she's so Obsessed. When Obsession of Nyobe's variety is for useful, practical purposes, it's often called Concentration
Sexual Orientation: Some might say 'surprisingly heterosexual'
