Irene Acker
Character Information
Name: Irene Acker
Nickname: N/A
Age: 25
Birthplace: Jackson, Mississippi
Sex: Female
Occupation: High School teacher, particularly drawn to the arts.
Appearance: Short and of an average weight, Irene boasts big blue eyes, a porcelain complexion and blonde hair that is the bane of her life. Her Southern accent and angelic appearance means people often underestimate her in ways that are infuriating to the young woman.
Personality: Quirky and slow to anger, Irene prefers to see the sunny side of life. She will laugh at herself as quickly as others, though never in a malicious way. She can be serious when the situation calls for it, but would much rather view life as a celebration. The only time a darker side comes out is when she is exploring her powers. They can sometimes infuse her with a heady sexuality that leaves her wanting, desperately.
Special abilities/talents: Serenity and peacefulness seem to follow Irene Acker wherever she goes. This is, in part, due to the soft breezes that gently swirl around her, bringing news to her. Unfortunately, she hasn't mastered much in the way of distance, and her range is limited to 3 miles. She is stronger, however, in controlling the power of the wind, using strong gusts to deter any unwelcome advances and bringing weather when it is needed. Recently, she's begun to develop the ability to use the wind as a tool to lift her the few feet needed to reach that top shelf or wash the hood of her car- useful when you're short!- but only for a minute or two.
Supernatural Affinity:
Species/Group: Human
Power(s): Air Elemental
Level: 2, on the cusp of 3
History: Born to a loving family, Irene is the only child of a psychic mother and normal father. She loved her life as a child, though she was prone to bouts of asthma and allergies that no doctor could figure out. It wasn't until she was 5 and began talking about the voices she heard on the wind that her parents paid any mind. It was her mother that discovered her elemental powers and moved the family from Jackson to Utica, a small town of under a thousand people on the outskirts of Jackson. Once the pollution was gone, Irene grew up healthy and strong- curious, but content to never really explore her powers beyond the first level.
All of that changed her junior year of high school. That year, a family moved to Utica, causing an understandable disturbance in the small town. What they didn't know what that an even bigger disturbance was about to come. Henry Beauchamp was in the same class as Irene, and the two quickly struck up a bond and were dating a few weeks into the school year. Prior to this, Irene kept her powers a secret, her mother having explained that some people wouldn't understand. But Henry was different. Henry would understand, she thought. She was right. Henry also had elemental powers, his being from fire versus air. That's what sparked the family's move to the warm climates of Mississippi.
During this time, Irene also learned of the intoxicatingly sexual nature of her powers. The night Henry took her virginity was the same night she learned to call the winds to her. All too willing to oblige, Henry pushed Irene to explore her powers, reaping the sexual benefit with each breakthrough. Both attended Belhaven College for its proximity to home, allowing them to stay together. While finishing her traditional degree in education, Irene continued to study her powers, reaching her current level, at the cusp of three.
Now, Irene is striking out from her family and all that she knows. Last month, Henry embraced his final level, and took on his elemental form. Enraptured with the experience, he chose to permanently adopt this form, leaving human life behind. This devastated Irene, causing her to quit her job at the high school and leave Mississippi for good. Her mentor, another teacher at Hinds County High, recommended Mysteria based on a hunch. Anywhere sounded better to Irene, and so she moved, knowing she could at least bus tables until she reached a more solid plan.
Flaws: As a Southern Belle, Irene speaks with a soft accent that seems somewhat slurred and slow to those unused to hearing it. Often times this can lead to some confusion.
Throughout her life, Irene has been known as the kind one. Her soft-heartedness often leads her to being hurt, and Henry's departure without a thought for her wounded her deeply. She's made a promise to herself that if she ever reaches that level (heaven forbid), she will only do so if it is absolutely needed. She won't leave others like she was left.
Despite her profession as an educator, Irene has been known to be easily distracted and/or flighty. This has lead to countless keys locked in houses and cars, making her late to school board meetings and other important events. As such, she's taken to hiding spares around her- only to forget where she hid them. When Henry was around, he helped to keep track of things, but now that she's alone, it seems that the problem has only gotten worse.
Merits: Her Southern accent and angelic appearance means people often underestimate her in ways that are infuriating to the young woman. But she realizes that her unassuming nature can also work to her advantage and will use it if needed.
Charmed. Fortunate. Serendipitous. Lucky. Irene's life can be described that way. Rarely has something in her life not gone her way, with the exception of Henry. We can't be lucky all the time, though...
Sexual Orientation: Straight
