Appearance: Standing at six feet even, Caleb has a medium, wiry build, slightly muscular, lending him a leonine look.. He has dark brown hair that brushes in his eyes quite often. More often however, his dark eyes appear to change. They can go from nearly silver, to bright green or blue when his glamour can't hold. This is especially during times when his emotions are running high.
Those who are able to see through his Seeming see his hair, though short, but brilliant silver. His multicolored eyes that curve a bit, a trait passed in his line from some Sidhe ancestors ages ago, would be clear as well. His tan skin is a bit darker with a faint, unnatural glow. He appears just a touch taller and his ears tip at the ends slightly. He also has a few scars from lost duels, though nothing he shows in human form.
Personality:
On the outside, he seems like your typical teenage loner. Smart, shy with just the right amount of rebellious sarcasm. All true, but Caleb is first and foremost kind, with a gentle empathy. He's especially soft hearted and protective of children and family.
Being so unusual in both worlds, Caleb has accepted being a little lonely, though it doesn't stop the jealousy and self loathing that accompanies it.
Caleb occasionally has difficulty with social skills, forcing him slightly shy and over polite. To strangers he tends to be quiet for fear of being discourteous or making a fool of himself. Conversely, to people he's comfortable around, he's charming and funny, even unafraid to be silly if it will get a laugh out of you.
Special abilities/talents:
A love for the arts to match his skill, Caleb is an excellent artist, not limiting himself to paint, but sculpting, photography, and even dabbles in writing as well.
Supernatural Affinity: Species/Group: Changeling (Human/Piskey hybrid) Power(s): All those belonging to a fey (Glamour, Seeming, magic, ect.) Level: Intermediate Affiliation/Rank: Seelie Court Preferred Prey: N/A
History: Malia Raeself had everything planned. Not entirely Piskey, but some Sidhe heritage as well, she was lovely, powerful, and her life was running smoothly. She wasn't a noble, but a courtier in the Unseelie court. The matriarch of her family was considering a marriage for her with a nobleman of better standing than she, and all was going according to plan.
Dan Weston never meant to stay in Mysteria. An artist, carefree, reckless, he liked his wild life. His roguish charm was something that women found irresistible. He knew he had made mistakes, that back in Chicago lived a child that was probably his, the product of a fling, one he chose not to take responsibility for. He simply chose a small town to work on his art in peace before returning to the city. Dan's lifestyle was too tempting to be slowed by a child.
However, that's exactly what happened when one night Malia came from the Dreaming to avoid bedlam. She met the human and thought a harmless fling wouldn't hurt. Right?
After their month long affair she had become pregnant. Malia knew she must remain in the mortal world until she could return to the Dreaming, explained to Dan what she was, what their child would be, that he must stay with him until she could make certain he would be accepted in the fey realm. He would not be like normal human children, so leaving him to strangers was out of the question. Reluctantly, Dan agreed to take care of the child, assuming that it would not be for long. How wrong he was.
Only a few short days after Caleb NicRaeself Weston was born, Malia returned home, leaving her son with his father, and a trusted friend whom had long exiled herself from both royal courts, Tyra. This left Caleb in the hands of both is fey and human bloodlines. Dan fully grasped what Malia meant when she said their son would not be accepted in the human world. Caleb, a sweet child from an early age, had large multicolored eyes and silvery hair, gently tipping ears and darker skin than both Dan's or his former lover. Resentful of being put in this position, Tyra took over for the most part when Caleb was a newborn.
After a few months of locking himself away from the responsibility of a son as much as possible, Tyra informed Dan she had to return to the Dreaming, if just for awhile. She was suffering from an illness that he didn't understand. Therefore the responsibility of his son fell upon him.
Angry he was once again pushed into being a father to a creature he didn't even truly understand, Dan tried to resent the child. Yet everytime he looked at the boy, so odd in appearance, he couldn't bring himself to be anything less than nurturing with him. The more he was with his son, the more he began to enjoy being a father, taking joy the moments Caleb would learn something new, do or say something that reflected his father.
When Tyra came back four months later, she was not alone. Malia had joined her. She explained to Dan how the matriarch of her family had accepted Caleb as one of them, mostly due to desperation. Their line was dying, and though he was a hybrid, he would choose a side one day. Theirs. She thanked Dan and told him he could return to his life, that he was no longer necessary. He in turn explained to her that he had come to love Caleb, being a father to him and wouldn't leave him. Reaching an agreement, they decided due to his mortality, that Dan could raise Caleb in the mortal realm some of the time while Malia did the same in the fey. He would have the option of both worlds, and be deprived of neither heritage.
This arrangement worked smoothly for a time. His mother taught him the magic he would need to know to live in the realm of the fey and hide in the human world, his father teaching him what it was to be human. Caleb was a good artist, taking after his father and his eidetic memory made him a wonderful student, even if his heritage shied him away from his peers in both worlds. Not truly belonging to the fey world, nor the human one, Caleb has always been looked down upon, not only by others, but himself. He stayed close to his family and a few trusted friends who were odd like he was. They saw the fun side of Caleb while he chose to give the rest of the world another face in the crowd, save for when his oddities would make him the object of mockery. Bullies really do exist everywhere.
Since the day they met, Caleb knew Maddy was different. Special. She wasn't like the other girls he'd met at school or the ones in the fey realm, either curious about him or believing themselves greater than he was. She was kind, intelligent, and that shone in her features too. Caleb's crush grew incredibly deep over the years, though he never made any move to pursue it, fearing she would reject someone as strange as he was. He could tolerate it with the anyone else, but not from Maddy.
At the age of eleven, Caleb arrived home from school and prepared to join his father in his studio, as was their routine. He went to the house, finding a close friend of his father's waiting for him. He explained that Dan had been in a car accident a few hours earlier and that he didn't have much time. For years later, Caleb would take comfort in the fact that at least they got to say goodbye.
He was raised primarily by Malia from then on, but stubbornly refused to give up on his human heritage, but now that his father had passed, he joined her in the world of the fey more often than not. He's still exploring both sides of himself, trying to decide who he is. Who he will have to choose to be.
Flaws: When you're considered an outsider in two entirely different worlds, treated as if you were something less, it takes it's toll, and did, severely on Caleb. He believes himself a freak, aberration, honestly having no place.
The old adage saying, "Don't get mad, get even," was one Caleb took to heart, especially if you offend someone he cares about. Crash into his friend's car? Don't be surprised to find yours missing the next morning, never to be seen again. A major or minor offense, unless he's placated, won't go unpunished, despite the consequences.
He's a natural pickpocket, using his skill especially if it will serve his mischievous purposes. He doesn't take from family or friends, save for little trinkets holding no value other than sentimental, and tries to curb the impulse.
Caleb has a serious allergy to iron and too much in his system can be lethal. He stays away from objects made of iron as well, knowing they can make him extremely sick.
As a changeling, he has difficulty keeping his Seeming up sometimes. His eyes unique color changes by lighting and his emotional state, and in just the right light? One would swear he had silver rather than dark hair for a moment. Just as quickly, you'd think your eyes were playing tricks on you.
Merits: Eidetic memory is something he has had from a very early age and can recall most things with great accuracy. This helps in his schoolwork and everyday life, but can be a curse as well, remembering with perfectly the bad things he's endured as well.
Ambidextrous is an understatement. His slight of hand is a force to be reckoned with. This serves him well in not only picking pockets, but his art as well.
He's very attuned to the emotions of people around him, perceptive. Not quite empathy, but not a great distance from it.
