Snupin_Santa prompt chats nightly through August 24

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

I'm going to be hanging out in chat most nights if you need some prompt help or inspiration for [info]snupin_santa. Bare minimum, I'll be around 9 pm - 11 pm, but I'm usually on earlier and later. I am out until late on Saturday.

But you don't need me to hang out in chat and help others with Snupin Santa ideas or Fantasy Fest. Just pop on in and see if anyone's around to help you. Remember to speak up when you enter the room because some people's programs don't let them know you're there until you talk. You're also welcome to post your own chat notices or to schedule times to meet up with people in the chat room.

Mod Post: Fantasy Fest, Chat Drabble/Drawable Nite, August Calendar, etc.!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Softie that I am, I wrote the drabblers and gave them until the end of the weekend to post their work. Karasu also picked up an extra since I did this, so if anyone else wants to try a drabble or drawable for Fantasy Fest, there is still time. But no more after Sunday!

If you want to claim a story or art piece, though, those are still open until the end of the month. You can post Fantasy Fest stories or art at any time. People with story and art prompts, don't let the end of the month Snupin_Santa sign-ups distract you - from both finishing and posting your work and signing up for [info]snupin_santa, of course! ~_^

This is short notice, but some chatters wanted to do a drabble/drawable night and Friday (like, today) was everyone in chat's choice. We'll start around 9 pm EST tonight and go until people tire of it or there's not enough players. There's no real rules, you don't have to participate in every round and if you just want to read drabbles/see art, as long as you speak up with some "like it" or "hate it" comments, you can just watch.

This means you should make sure you can get into the chat room ahead of time. You'll know you're in the right place because Snape/Lupin-related info comes up when you enter the room. Also, you'll probably see "D_M" and "Jude" in there, are they're pretty constantly logged in, even when not around. Heh.

If this time doesn't work for you, but you still want to do a drabble/drawable night in chat, get with some friends, pick a date and time and let me or the community know. You don't need me to run something like this and you can make the post for such a night on your own. But I'm happy to faciliate both notice and the night itself if I'm available.

Front and center, a very late posting of July's calendar with my deep apologies to Skitty and the community. If it helps ease the pain, I will be gathering up all the calendar art pieces and turning them into generic monthly calendars for download, which will be available at the end of the year.

Fantasy Fest is off to a great start! Has everyone been using the Fantasy Fest tag? It's "prompt: fantasy fest 2010" on both IJ and LJ. The drabblers have barely been able to contain themselves, but remember, they only rule until July 31. Also remember, if you've signed up for a drabble and don't post it here on or before July 31, you lose any art or story prompts you've claimed.

Claiming is open throughout the fest, so there's plenty of time for you to help spread the word! Just point creative types toward one of the claiming posts, or point readers to one of the tag links. They are conveniently listed below for your use.

Fantasy Fest: Need those prompts!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Prompts have been trickling in slowly since Fantasy Fest was announced, but we definitely need more if we're going to offer creators a decent list to choose from.

Now that we've come through the US holiday weekend, it's not too late to get your prompts in. Remember, we need prompts in the following categories:

• Stories
• Art
• Drabble/Drawable

You can offer up to two prompts in each category, just be sure to make a new post for each one and state the category. The prompt post is screened, so there's no reason to be shy. Just try to think about what you would love to see in a Snape/Lupin piece and write it out for us. It's your fantasy fest, after all.

Again, prompt numbers are super-low! Please take some time to prompt by Noon on Friday (July 9). And there's still time to spread the word, too. Thanks!

love, lore
P.S. I'll be hanging out in chat in the evenings the rest of this week if you'd like prompt-writing help or inspiration.

Mod Post: Mid-month reminders and links!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Our challenge for this month has been to participate with one post to [info]pervy_werewolf's "Lusty Month of May". So far, I haven't spotted any takers for this, but the month's only half-over. There's still time to participate and/or read! The second half of the month always takes a toll on the participants, and comments go down. This would be a good time for you to jump in and cheer the writers and artists on.

Links!

Ok, gang, if you want others to see your Snape/Lupin work posted elsewhere, or gifts to you, or just works you stumble upon, you need to link them at the IJ and/or LJ communities. I've gathered up some links over the past few months for sharing today, but it's nowhere near a comprehensive list. Don't be shy and post links when you see them!

As always, if you visit these links, let the creators know you were there with a simple comment.

And that's it! I've been saying it over and over, but it bears repeating - if you look, comment. Actual comments and encouragement have been hard to come by lately. I know that there are less people around, and maybe commenting makes you feel exposed. But your comments are needed now more than ever, so I hope you can overcome any shyness you might have and help encourage the creators who are still working with these wonderful characters that we love so very, very much.

I think you're all fabulous. I hope you feel that way when you participate here! *HUGS* ♥

Mod Post: Stuff the Stockings, Rec-ing and more!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

All right, you've all had a day to recover. Time for some reminders and joyous tidings of what's to come!

Stuff the Stockings - It's not too late to jump into this contest! Remember, the grand prize is a physical copy of Chocolate & Asphodel, v. 2. You earn points by leaving comments on [info]snupin_santa 2009 gifts, making recommendations of 2009 gifts, and promoting the exchange.

I'll take exchange promotions through December 31, and recs and comments through 11:59 pm EST on January 6. Remember, recs earn 3 points for each gift recommended, and comments on gifts posted after December 15 earn 2 points. There's still time to catch up! Please read the original Stuff the Stockings post for more details if you need them.

Recommendations - Linking us to your recommendations is not just important for Stuff the Stockings competitors. If a story or piece of art receives three recommendations, McKay can send the recommendation links to the [info]daily_snitch and [info]snapenews, which, between IJ and LJ, has well over 5000 readers. Not too shabby an audience to try and reach, so please do let us know when you're recommending any Snape/Lupin story from the holiday exchanges, including and especially [info]snupin_santa!

You can leave your recommendations here on LJ and here on IJ. I will also be using these posts to count up Stuff the Stockings.

Crack_Broom Free Flying - LJ's Crack_Broom is having a month when anyone watching the community can leave one recommendation for a story or art. If you are already a watcher of the community, you should have temporary member status, and if not, a request can be made for membership on the linked information post. Sadly, there's been no Snape/Lupin recommendations yet this month....

Recs should be non-anonymous Snape/Lupin fics or art that haven't already appeared on the Crack_Broom before. The very helpful and lovely [info]bronze_ribbons (whom I can't thank enough for keeping up) has been maintaining a masterlist of all SS/RL Crack Broom recs here, if you'd like to check before making a recommendation. Did I mention the reccing queue at the CB is getting short as well?

Snape's Birthday (Jan. 9) - Ha! He's not sneaking up on me this year, but 50 is closing in on our favourite Potions master! Starting January 1 and continuing through January 9, please feel free to post any sort of creative or non-creative tributes you might have for Severus as he turns 50. If you didn't participate in the [info]severusbigbang, which will open January 9, by the way, there's still time to offer here a drabble, icons, drawings, lists, essays, humour, etc. for Severus as endures us celebrating his 50th!

Lupin Big Bang - Speaking of turning 50, Remus does this year as well (on March 10), and he also is getting his own Big Bang for it! While we'll be trying to come up with our own special challenge for Remus this year, there is a LupinBigBang underway that I encourage you to check out and possibly join.

The LupinBB appears to be running similar to our BLU, with the first draft deadline also being the final sign-up deadline - February 7. There's still plenty of time to write! It looks like artists will be needed between February 7 and the posting date of March 10. The minimum word count for a LupinBB story is 20,000 - that's 5000 less than the BLU minimum, in case anyone had wished to try doing the Snupin BB, but felt the story length was too long to manage.

Reposting Month - After January 9, Lupin_Snape will be open for Reposting Month! This will include Snape/Lupin gifts you might have given in holidays past from exchanges other than [info]snupin_santa, as well as works from other challenges, fests or out of just plain shyness that never appeared on the community. More details to come after we finish celebrating Snupin Santa and Severus's birthday.

The year ahead looks exciting to me (because, heh, I know what I have planned for you). I am hoping it will be a time of renewal and refocus of works on the community. As the year winds down, I hope you all will enjoy cuddling up to [info]snupin_santa, Stuffing the Stockings and sharing in the warm glow that comes from you all being such fabulous community members!

Quickie Mod Post, lots of reminders!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

There is exactly one set of Snape/Lupin offerings in [info]hp_art_tales, and it's mine. Submissions close today (November 29).

The first point has been awarded in Stuff the Stockings! Remember, you have to go back to the main post and leave a link if you've been advertising [info]snupin_santa for the contest. Don't forget, there are fabulous prizes at stake, including your own copy of Chocolate & Asphodel, v. 2. (While you're waiting for the exchange to start, you might consider perusing C&A2 and offering some comments to the contributors)

The Recipe Challenge is drawing to a close. November 30 is the last day for posts on the community. After that, it will be up to [info]drusillas_rain's discretion if she'll accept e-mailed entries as she works on compiling the book.

Be sure to read over McKay's "Coming Soon" post for Snupin_Santa. There's lots of good information there, especially if you plan on participating in Stuff the Stockings.

There are some new holiday icons here from [info]whitestar, but artists, we're still looking for more. In fact, Whitestar has offered to add her iconing touch to any art I can send her, so consider submitting some art soon if you want to see it receive the delux icon treatment. ~_^

If you're involved in the Print Calendar project, your art is due December 15, don't forget in all the holiday madness!

Speaking of calendars, I'm going to go ahead and remind you to switch to December's desktop calendar now. The art is by the very fun, very talented [info]tripperfunster, and it should be very useful in such a busy month!

Finally, I want to thank all of the members here for being such great, generous participants in the community. There's been lots of searches and requests lately, and I'm seeing many new and different members speaking up to help out or volunteer. I'll never stop saying this - you are the reason this community continues to be a warm and friendly place for Lupin/Snape fans, and you're each wonderful and invaluable. Thank you all!

LJ-only users, please forgive me for not making a post with LJ links, but I promise you that all the posts linked here have a LJ equivalent post. I'm just super-rushed because company is on my doorstep!

Mid-month round-up!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
First, if you missed it, the Snupineer Fun Time Activity book is now available for download. Kudos and thanks to [info]drusillas_rain for putting it together!

The August Rec Event is on-going, and there are still open days! You can also sign up for a second day OR have more than one person on the same day, so if a day you want is already claimed, go ahead and ask for it anyway! More info and the sign-up calendar are here on IJ and here on LJ.

The Retro Fest is on-going as well! The deadline for posting art or stories for the Retro Fest is August 31, so there's still time!

The community has been given a slight make-over; if you look at the main page (IJ, LJ), you'll see a new "current community events" blurb, which mirrors the information on the community profile page. Don't forget to check the newly updated sidebar on the main page as well! The sidebar can be your first useful stop when you're looking for links.

Don't forget! Snupin Santa sign-ups open on Monday! (Although it may be Tuesday for some of you in earlier time zones than Santa). Sign-ups will run through August 24. The sign-up post will be mirrored on both IJ and LJ.

And if you want a teaser for up-coming community events, let's just say it might be a good idea to think of recipes Snape and Lupin might like best or that you associate with Snupin.

In other news, the thematic lists have been updated with the Occlumency/Legilimency list.

Reminder - don't forget to use our tags! The tag list for Ij is here and the tag list for LJ is here. You can click the "edit tag" button on your post and choose whichever tags you need from the list after you post your entry, or you can type them in manually if your LJ posting client has a tag option..

And finally, [info]lore will be hosting a ship chat! The chat will begin at 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 15 in the IRC chatroom. For information about how to access the chatroom, see the instruction post: IJ, LJ. If you want to get help brainstorming for your Retro Fest work or for your Snupin Santa prompts, or you just want to talk about Snupin, feel free to drop by!

Last Call!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
May is drawing to a close, which means time is running out for submitting theme list suggestions and Retro Fest prompts!

I've only had one response to this month's theme list search (threesome: Severus/Remus/Harry), so if you know of any stories or have written any stories featuring that threesome, you need to drop me a link ASAP or it's going to be a sparse list. The search post can be found at IJ, LJ, and DW.

RETRO FEST:

First, some more clarification: The Retro Fest does NOT mean going back to the 1950s/1960s. "Retro" in this context means going back in HP canon, picking a point pre-DH, and expanding on or changing canon from that point onward. For more detailed information, see this post.

Second, [info]lore and I talked about it and decided that since the response had been underwhelming, we'd change the one prompt limitation in order to generate a decent list of story and art prompts for potential participants. So! If you've got more than one prompt you'd like to submit, you may submit as many as you like here at LJ, IJ, or DW.

If you're having trouble remembering in which book we learned a certain bit of information about a character, the Harry Potter Wiki might help.

If you're having trouble generating prompts, my suggestion would be to think of your favorite canon era and think about what we knew at that point and maybe how you want to change things. You could also think about fandom cliches or theories that used to be popular, such as Remus being killed/injured by Pettigrew's silver hand or Severus being a pureblood who hung around with Lucius and lived in Snape Manor.

You could also browse [info]mctabby's Time Capsule posts, which held a lot of canon speculation that might provide inspiration for the Retro Fest: 2005, 2007, and 2008.

May Challenge Reminder: Dark Side fest!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
We're almost halfway through May now (gaaah, how did that happen?!), so don't forget that our theme this month is the Dark Side of Snape/Lupin challenge!

Any "dark" theme you can come up with is fair game, from murder and mayhem, to trickery, to betrayal, to horror, to slavery, to torture, to crime and punishment... anything you wish, really!

If you're feeling squeamish about the thought of introducing dark themes to our beloved pairing, don't forget that you certainly don't need to have the darkness split up our heroes, if you don't want to! We've had submissions to this challenge in the past that kept Snape and Lupin entirely devoted to each other... while inflicting a bit of harm on everyone else. *cackle*

But you also don't need to go full-out blood, guts, and gore to qualify. There are links from the sign-up post (below) to discussions we've had before about what constitutes "dark". Be imaginative! You can encompass a broad range of topics with this one.

The sign-up post and prompt generator is still open, if you need inspiration!

You can post your fic or art here at the comm (or on LJ or DW) whenever you're ready this month, and I'll compile a Masterlist on June 1.

Let's go Dark Side!

Late-Month Pimpin'!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

I was thinking about the way fandom is tracking the other day and it occurred to me that if we want to keep this ship thriving, it might be a good idea to make our pairing visible again in the wider HP fandom. Never fear, we will still continue here as we have been, with new ideas and projects and challenges, but it couldn't hurt to inform you of further opportunities to introduce people to or remind them of the potential of Remus and Severus as a couple. This is also not to say that if you see an event posted here, you must create Snupin for it if you're interested in participating -- there was probably no need to say that, but I felt I had to, just in case. ~_^

Severus' Big Bang!
There is a BB just getting started that's meant to celebrate Snape's 50th Birthday next year (If anyone hears of a similar BB for Remus underway, let me know!). What's different about this BB is that there are different levels of participation, including options for drabbles and very short fic or unpolished art. Sign-ups don't even start until June 1, so you'll be hearing more about this BB as time goes on, but here's a link to the fest so you can start considering your options!

The Lusty Month is Just Around the Kinky Corner!
Pervy Werewolf community icon
Five times, [info]pervy_werewolf hosted the Lusty Month of May daily posting marathon, and on this sixth year, there's a new twist in the game to help open it up to more Pervy Werewolf Fanciers. Tiers have been set up for writers, allowing for daily posting of a minimum word count, daily posting of a drabble or monthly posting of a longer work. More details can be found here. PW is a community dedicated to the kinky side of Remus Lupin, and each year, the Lusty Month of Mary marathon has been a treasure trove of fabulous, creative smut, always involving Remus Lupin (and sometimes Severus; just remember, any pairing goes as long as Remus is around or in it).

Fic Exchange - Sign-ups end Today!
The 'Five Things' Harry Potter Fic Exchange
Pretty much what it sounds like - an exchange of "Five Things" fics (very sorry artists, I don't like it either). 1000-word minimum (works out to five 200-word drabbles, if you think about it). Sign-ups end late today (Friday, April 24), fics due May 30. If only I had seen this sooner, right? Still, if you see this in time to jump in, do! We might get each other. Had to put my money where my mouth is. ~_^ Closed now, but you can watch the user's journal for the exchange, which starts after May 30!

Oh yeah, Lupin_Snape Is Busy, Too
Snupin: Bigger, Longer and Uncut (our version of a Big Bang), Chocolate & Asphodel 2, and the monthly challenge, Fools, are all discussed and linked in this mod post. It's not too late for creators to try their hands at any one of these!

So, get out there and circulate, Lupin/Snape fans! Just be sure to remember that you'll always have a home to come back to, here at [info]lupin_snape. ^_^

Mod Post: April Challenge, project reminders, state of the communities and more!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Don't forget to change your Desktops!

And in the spirit of the season, this month's challenge is simple titled: Fools

Write, draw, drabble, create anything involving Lupin/Snape and any version of the word "fool" you can think of. There is no minimum or maximum word count or effort involved. The deadline for posting your effort is APRIL 30.

We seem to be in a bit of a community slump, so for this challenge, I gathered up some quotes and images to help inspire your efforts. If nothing below helps, you're always welcome to reply here seeking the kind of prompts that will inspire you.

Inspirational quotes and images under here - no claiming necessary )

Ongoing projects you can easily jump into:
Snupin: Bigger, Longer and Uncut - Our version of a Big Bang. Deadline to sign up for writers and artists is April 30, which is also the first-draft deadline.

Chocolate and Asphodel 2: A community project that gathers up creative pursuits for later presentation in a single format. Deadline is July 1.

State of the Lupin_Snape Communities )

Remember, whether you prefer to operate on LiveJournal or InsaneJournal, the challenges and mod posts are made to both communities. And even if you are devoted to one journal system or the other, you can always follow the sister [info]lupin_snape on your journal through a syndication feed. If you are on InsaneJournal, you can add the LJ feed here. If you are on LiveJournal, you can add the IJ feed here.

Finally, the April Theme Search only has one response so far, and that's from posts on both journals. As McKay said, we don't do the searching for you, and anyone can submit a story to the theme list, so if you have a favourite story you want to see on the lists, which people search when they're in the mood for certain kinds of stories, you'll have to add it to the search post. This month's theme search is Werewolf!Snape. Any stories, including AUs and ARs, in which Snape is a werewolf either instead of, because of, or in conjunction with Remus are eligible.

And that's it for now! Thank you, one and all, for still being here and enjoying the community and pairing. You guys are the ones who make this place special. ♥

Mod post: New and old Polls, rules addition, thematic list, etc.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

*Pokes Members* Ok, in my mind, I imagine a sea of you at your computers, passed out on keyboards, toppled over on backs in office chairs, or holding your distended tummies, completely glutted on fic right now.

So, in case any of you want to metaphorically get up and stretch or move around for a while, I have some reminders and a few new things for you to chew over.

1. I have changed both the LJ and IJ profile to reflect an additional community rule (and that only makes us up to #6), as well as to clean up some links and notices. Is everyone seeing the Lupin_Snape Fanart Mood Theme on IJ now? I hope so!

2. The Poll asking for your number of Snupin creations and how long you've been shipping the pairing is still open and will be through Monday (December 15). On Tuesday, I'll come back with info on what I was on about. *evilgrin*

In the meantime, be sure to check out the text entry answers. There's some wildly creative single-line drabbles there! Also, if you're still friends with people who used to hang about here and don't anymore, consider pointing them toward the poll or making a post in your journal about it.

3. Desktop Calendar Artists: Deadline is Monday, December 15. If you need a reminder on how to format and submit your art, look here. Also, check out the [info]snupin community. Some of your fellow artists could use your opinion.

4. Don't forget, the Thematic List search for this month is Threesomes: Remus/Severus/Sirius. You have until the end of the month to add to the list. Remember, this isn't a rec list, but a comprehensive gathering of fic links around a theme. Don't let your faves be left off the list!

Also, if you'd like to take on an easy community task, considering volunteering to post every other week (or every week) with a reminder about the Thematic list of the month. Contact me through the community email account if you're interested.

5. McKay is still gathering [info]snupin_santa recs on IJ and LJ. Be sure to let her know if you posted any for current Snupin_Santa stories.

6. Speaking of recs, it's open flying month at LJ's Crack Broom, which is an HP recommendation community. Usually, there is one person each month who recommends Snupin stories and art on the community, but twice a year, they throw the doors open and let anyone make one rec.

If you've ever wanted to recommend something there, but didn't want to take on a whole month, or if you just have one great story that you think not enough people have read, now's your chance to let people know about it. You do have to make sure your rec isn't already on the list (thank you [info]bronze_ribbons), and I suggest you not recommend any fic or art that is currently anonymous (i.e. Snupin_Santa!).

7. It's not too late to add a Snupin Holiday Icon to your userpics. Check this post out for links and permissions!

8. Twitters - Get [info]snupin_santa and other Snape/Lupin updates at McKay's account.

9. School wrapping up, forced to take the rest of the month off to use up vacation, bored or restless? Consider taking on one of the many community volunteer opportunities still left on the list.

10. Finally, another poll. This time, you're helping us wrap our heads around the upcoming Novel-Length Fest, currently known in the HD ship as a Big Bang. If you don't know what a Big Bang is, hold your questions for now. But if you are familiar with the concept, asking the right questions can show us issues we need to address.

Poll #2854 Name That Big Bang
Open to: All, results viewable to: All

Help us name the Snupin version of a Big Bang by adding your suggestions here!

Do you have any thoughts, issues or questions about a Snupin Big Bang? Put them here for the mods to ponder.

We also need to solidify our volunteers for this project. A couple of you had committed to web site work and moderating a long while ago. Are you still in? *shifty eyes*

Ok, so, now a quiz. If you actually read to the end of this mod post, reply with Ungawa. If I get more than 50 unique Ungawas, I'll finish something on my hard drive and post it on January 1.

Mod post: December doin's with lots of REMINDERS - Huzzah!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Obviously, we are all in the thrall of [info]snupin_santa right now, so our November Volunteer challenge will continue through this month. If you think you'll have time on your hands, or, heaven forbid, need a break from fic, there's plenty you can do to help keep the ship running in top shape.

As soon as a few more volunteer jobs have been completed, I'll make a call for prompts from the volunteers for gift drabbles. We had one writer volunteer to do this. We could probably use one or two more, if anyone isn't completely worn out from writing exchange fics. ~_^

*****
Speaking of [info]snupin_santa (and isn't it fun?!), I wanted to point out that while anonymous commenting is turned off at the SnuSa archive, if you want to leave feedback without making an account, you're welcome to reply to the IJ or LJ post announcing the gift. Also, for now, anonymous commenting is available if you happen to be reading the fest fics and don't have a journal account. I'll unscreen anonymous comments as they come up!

Also, because who wants to stop talking about [info]snupin_santa?, did you all catch that exchange runner [info]scribbulus_ink has been posting announcements to Twitter when a gift goes up? And did you also know that there's now an add-on for Firefox browsers that will alert you when someone you're following, oh, like Scribbulusink, updates her Twitter? Yes, this means that if you have a browser open all day, you too can receive the instant joy of knowing there's fresh Snupin Santa on your flist through the glory of Twitter!!!!!

Er, anyway. It's cool. Really. heh.

*****
Desktop Calendar Artists: Don't forget, your submission is due December 15! If you have questions or want some comments, don't forget that you can use the [info]snupin community on IJ, or the Snupin_Art community on LJ if desperate.

*****
I think I see what the problem is with our thematic searches. McKay posts at the beginning of the month, and then we all promptly forget that the post exists. Any suggestions on how to keep the search fresh in people's minds throughout the month are welcome. Maybe someone would like to take on some sort of reminding role, possibly by posting a public rec that fits the month's theme each week (with links back to the theme post)? Every other week? Meep? Well, think about it.

And don't forget that this month's search is Threesomes: Remus/Severus/Sirius

*****
McKay just posted about this, but I have to reiterate that reccing is cool, and letting her know if you rec a current [info]snupin_santa gift is even cooler.

*****
We'll need to ramp up for our version of the Big Bang soon, including coming up with our own name for it, so read over the first post I made about it and if you have any thoughts, let me know here or at the mod mail. The next issue of the zine will probably also ramp up at the same time, so there will be special projects for writers no matter how many words they like to write, and the artists will be sitting pretty. ^_^

*****
For our LJ members, there is no one maintaining [info]lupin_snape right now who hasn't made sure to fully protect her journal from hackers. Just in case you were worried....

*****
And that's all I have for now. I hope everyone's holiday season has gotten off to a great start. I know mine has! *hugs [info]snupin_santa and all the lovely [info]lupin_snape community members to her bosom*

Mod Post: Desktop Calendar for 2009 - Invites are out!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Community Invitations to the artists who volunteered here are out! We'll be using a backup community at LJ, just in case IJ is being slow, but I really do want to keep the bulk of the posts on IJ if possible.

Artists, your invites are here:
http://www.insanejournal.com/manage/invites.bml
http://www.livejournal.com/manage/invites.bml

If you didn't receive one, please let me know! Also, if you're an artist and just seeing this project now, you're welcome to join us as long as you don't mind sharing months (i.e., there might be two Decembers). There will be a welcome post and then a logistics post in the IJ community soon. Feel free to introduce yourselves and ask questions or detail your plans. Whee!

love, lore

P.S. Everyone else, I know some of you would love a sneak peek at the goings-on, but please don't bother friending the project communities. They're set to automatically lock posts, so there won't be anything for you to see. ♥ Sorry about that!

Mod Post: Desktop Calendar for 2009 & other upcoming projects

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Calling all artists!

As you all should know, we have a physical Snupin calendar that runs until June, 2009. Rather than try to put together another year-spanning calendar for July 2009 - June 2010, I thought it might be fun to bridge the gap with desktop calendars.

If you don't know what a desktop calendar is, I found some examples on Deviantart here, here, here, here, and here.

I'm looking for at least 12 artists to create desktop calendar images for Snape/Lupin for 2009. To participate, all you have to do is reply to this post, saying you want in. When we have a final group, we'll retreat to a sister community that you'll be asked to join. We used a separate community on LiveJournal to organize the two-year calendar and I think it might work again for this project. The artists were able to share drafts and get advice from each other, which they seemed to enjoy. If the idea of joining a closed community for this project deters you in any way, please sign up anyway and let me know how you'd like to communicate.

If you just want to create an image for the project, but don't feel confident in creating a full-blown desktop image, I'm sure there will be other artists who would be willing to make a desktop from your image. So, don't let the format keep you from signing up as well! Feel free to spread the news about this project in your own journals. If we have more than 12 sign up, we'll just have extra months for people to choose from.

Deadline for sign-ups is Monday, September 29!

**********
Save the Date Notice!

There's been some interest in having a Snape/Lupin version of a Big Bang, which is a project where novel-length stories are written around a theme, and artists are assigned to illustrate the novels based on drafts in various stages. The Authors and Artists are not known to one another to give them a bit of surprise during their work on the project. The stories and art eventually will be integrated onto a final web site and debuted for all!

We haven't nailed down all the details yet, but we will probably put out the call for authors and artists in January for an eventual April/May(??) web site debut. Those interested in participating in this project might want to "save the date" in their fandom calendars or skip the usual January-March exchanges.

***********
Zine II, Snupin Boogaloo!

Because not every writer is interested in producing novel-length fiction, I will probably organize another round of the Special Project alongside the novel-length project. So, again, make sure to leave some room in your schedule this January-April/May(??) for contributing and/or volunteering to help out!

***********
Modly things to do:
Get mood theme on here!
Put up Fantasy Fest masterlists.
Make Snupin calling card.
Organize LJ links.
Update the info pages!
Funtime (hangs head in shame).
Edit IJ tags to match LJ tags

That's all I have for now! Don't forget to have some fun with the Filk Challenge through October 15 and contribute to the Snupin Library through the end of the month! I hope there's some lurkers out there who will come out of hiding to suggest some fics for the library or create some Filk for us - now is definitely a great time to delurk and participate in the community!

Remember, if you have any questions or thoughts on anything here, please feel free to comment here or drop me a line via the community email. I can sort the sign-ups from the questions. *g* I'm going to be scarce for the next two weeks, so have fun everyone and keep on Snupining! *HUGS* You're the best community a person could ever hope for!

Mod Post: Fantasy Fest count-down, Snupin Santa clarification

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Ok, the Fantasy Fest list has been edited. The Long prompts in both art and fiction have been pared down to only claimed prompts. If you would like to recycle your unclaimed Fantasy Fest prompts for [info]snupin_santa, you can find what your prompts here.

Also, we're now just past mid-month, so I'll remind you that there's only a couple weeks left to turn in your Fantasy Fest pieces! If you already have turned in your piece and I haven't marked it on the Fantasy Fest post, please try to leave me a link here.

Finally, in case this is not clear to you, you can delete and repost or add a reply to your Snupin Santa Sign-up as many times as you like or need to until the sign-ups close at the end of August 22. McKay has not put a limit on the sign-ups, so you won't be losing your "place" if you want to edit and repost your sign-up, nor will addendum replies to your own post be rejected.

In conversations with others this weekend, I had the sense that people thought that once their sign-up post went up, they couldn't change it, but that's not true. McKay and your giftee will appreciate you being as clear and thorough as possible when signing up for the exchange. Just don't delete and forget to repost! *grin*

That's all I have! If you have any questions about anything going on here at [info]lupin_snape, don't hesitate to speak up! Thanks, all! ♥

Mod Notes: Fantasy Fest, Chat, what's to come....

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

First, thanks to everyone who's remembered to tag your posts lately, especially for Fantasy Fest! I've been linking fest posts in the original sign-up post, but am a little behind and will update this weekend. Several members have even come back for seconds! There's still time to make a claim if you're interested in participating in the fest.

If you'd like to help me out in keeping the masterlist, post a link to your fic or art in the claiming post.

*****
[info]snupin_santa sign-ups are just around the corner! Remember, if you're out of town for the 15-22, you can sign up early. Because many of us struggle to come up with prompts, I'll be hanging out in the chat room on and off all weekend. We won't be strictly on-topic (as I know I'll have some random Olympics squee), but we'll get ON topic for anyone who wants to talk Snape/Lupin or brainstorm for Snupin Santa.

If you're desperate for SS help and can't access the chat room, leave a reply here and I'm sure members will help you brainstorm.

*****
There's a few things floating around my mind as we head into fall. For example, even though the Snupin Calendar has half a year of 2009 in it, do we want to do another one, maybe encompassing all of 2009? Or perhaps a computer background calendar project for 2009? Also, do we want another volume of Chocolate & Asphodel? (And did you know there's a feedback post for it here?) If you have any thoughts on projects like these or other projects, please reply here! I'll say now that the Funtime Book has been a bear, but I will be finishing it up for the fall as well.

There will be a weekly challenge prompt in October, in honour of the Fall season. And there's a Candid Captions ready to go this weekend. We can play with it while some of our other members enjoy Terminus (I hope they're all still at lunch, Snupining up a storm!).

That's it! Enjoy the break in the Weather while you can and if you have it. If not, I'll be seeing you in the Chat Room...♥

Reminders, updates!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

LiveLongNMarry bidding ends tonight at midnight PST (or 3 am EST, etc.). There is a list of [info]lupin_snape members with offers out there here, and some new members have come forward to be listed since the first day. So, check them out!

About prompts for the Fantasy Fest: Technically, the prompting time is over, and there are plenty of prompts already out there. However, if you feel you missed out and really have something cool to offer, I will accept late prompts here on this screened post. My patience for this is short, and I don't mean it in a mean way at all; it's just better for my organization for prompts to be closed once and for all. But I have one request for someone to be anonymous, so I have to go over my master lists one more time, so I'll add late prompts one more time as well. Act. Quickly.

Now that the initial rush for claims is over, a few reminders:

1. If you know you're the first one to claim a prompt, no need to wait for my confirmation message, just consider it yours and get started. I'll be slower now, about updating the master list, but each claim will eventually get its strike-thru. *g* Claiming will remain open throughout the fest, as there are now short prompts that could be drawn/written in a day.

2. There's a "prompt: fantasy fest '08" tag that anyone posting for the fest can use, in addition to fic and art ratings and other relevant tags. Please use the tags as you post; it helps the mods and masterlist-builders out a lot.

3. Once a prompt you offered has been completely posted, you may reveal yourself as the prompter, if you wish. That means you can't let on a prompt is yours if it's posted as a Work In Progress until the last chapter is posted. You can go nuts anonymously if the need to squee is really getting to you. ~_^

4. Creations can go up as Works in Progress, however, you are encouraged to finish posting by August 31. Last year, a lot of people put up parts to fics (and comics?) they were working on in the last week, intending to finish them. I won't make that against the rules for this year, but many of those fics were never finished, which is disappointing. Pace yourself, if you can.

5. Speaking of pacing yourself, remember that the last week of August is going to be crowded because of the deadline. If you want to be noticed, aim to post your creation as soon as possible. A lot of good stuff is often lost in the "deadline posting rush".

There are several posts of the short art prompts already up, which is just a wonderful way to start the fest! I hope members will continue to encourage creators by leaving comments as the Fantasy Fest moves along. And creators, remember, you're welcome to come back for another prompt as soon as you post the one you've claimed.

Thanks for getting our Third Lupin/Snape Fantasy Fest off to such a great start, everyone! ♥

Mod Post: Snupineer Funtime Activity Project reminder

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

REMINDER: The Deadline for the Snupineer Funtime Activity Project is April 1! One update since the original post: I need an answer key with all puzzles and trivia questions. If you already sent one without an answer key, please follow up with one.

You might remember that I asked for people to get their offerings in early, and it's still not too late to be considered an earlybird. However, if April 1 comes around and you're close to having something done, please do contact me, rather than letting the work go.

Right now, the project file is quite thin, and there has only been one piece of art turned in for colouring, so if you've been debating whipping something up for this anniversary project, please go ahead and do it! In case anyone missed it, most of the links I gave took you to web sites that would create games or puzzles based on your inputs. And if you want to be different, a quick search of your idea plus "creator" or "maker" might help you find other game-generators.

Thanks to everyone who turned in files for the project early. If we never get another piece in, what we have already will be lots of fun! Remember, this is all in celebration of [info]lupin_snape's 5th Anniversary on the web.

I'll try to be around in YM and chat this weekend if you have any needs or questions. It's all right to leave me off-lines or questions via email as well.
