Snupin Santa Round-Up, Week 1

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

As we pause today to give you all a chance to catch up on your reading and commenting, I have a personal request.
Usually, I manage to make some recs toward the end of the exchange. This year, because I'm organizing Snupin Santa, tradition will keep me from making recs during December. I'd love to see a reader who hadn't planned on reccing to go ahead and rec to take up my slack. Kind of like a vote exchange, right? ^_^ If you're willing to take this on, the reccing posts are here, just choose your platform: Livejournal, InsaneJournal, and Dreamwidth

I've only linked the web site links here, but don't forget that you can also comment on the journal posts for these works. Just check out the community on any one of the three journals we're using to post Snupin Santa!

Art
Evening at Home, for Garonne, G
DS9 Snape, for rkold, PG
After the Battle (Stop for Death), for Writcraft, G
Snupin Icons and Wallpaper, for Myene01, PG
Cho Cho, for Osmalic, G

Fiction
In Case of Emergency, for Nepenth, G
The Tenderness of Wolves, for Serpenscript, NC17
One Last Horcrux, for Islandsmoke, NC17
I Want You to Want Me, for Shrinknviolet, PG13
A Romance in Reverse, for Alafaye, R
Ripples Of Kindness, for Nimrod_9, PG13
Severus Snape and the Orders of the Phoenix, for Bonfoi, NC17

Regular posting resumes tomorrow - remember, it's two gifts M-Th, and 1 Fr-Sa.

How are you liking the exchange so far? Feel free to let us know what you think here!

I can hear the pitter-patter of hoofs on the roof....

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Snupin Santa will begin in a few hours!!! Because your main mod is a vampire, gifts might go up in the wee hours some days. Be sure to check back on your flists to find entries.

Although it's mentioned below, I want to reiterate - give the gift of a comment this year. All the ways you can comment are explained in great detail below, and the participants have worked very hard to bring everyone the gift of Snape/Lupin this year. Take just a few moments to day something on the gifts you view, even if it's just "thank you". It matters.

POSTNG:
The schedule is convoluted this year because of the way the weekends and holidays fall in December. There will be a story today and tomorrow, and then the schedule is as follows starting December 3:
M-Th for the three weeks before Christmas, 2 posts/day.
Fr-Sat all month - 1 post/day
Dec. 26 - 29 - 1 post/day
Sundays, Dec. 24-25, 31 - off
Reveals January 9 - Severus' birthday!

All gifts will be posted in full on the Fest website with announcements containing basic header information and a direct link to the gift on Livejournal, Insanejournal, and Dreamwidth. If you want to see the full gift, you'll have to click over to the website. So, basically, you can receive updates when new gifts have been posted in one of four ways:

Snupin Santa Fest archive
lupin_snape on Livejournal
lupin_snape on Insanejournal
lupin_snape on dreamwidth

The gifts posted most recently will appear on the main page of the archive (scroll down until you see the red bar reading "Most Recent"), and all gifts posted within the last 14 days will appear on the Recently Added page. All gifts posted for the 2009 fest will appear on the Snupin Santa 2012 category page in alphabetical order by title.

Let me remind anyone who has not used eFiction before, if you don't like the look of the site, you can change it. There are detailed instructions on how to change the appearance of the site temporarily or permanently on the Help page (along with other useful info). There are several other "skins" to choose from, so everyone should be able to find something they like or at least can live with if they don't like the default skin for whatever reason, but if not, they're welcome to find an eFiction 3.0 skin they do like and send me the zip file of it.

Fest-related news will be posted to the News section of the website (scroll down until you see the red bar reading "Site News") as well as on the Lupin_Snape communities. The most recent news posts will be on the main page, and all news posts, including older ones, will be in the News archive.

LEAVING COMMENTS:
Unfortunately, anonymous commenting is not enabled at the Fest site because while it is protected from bots and search engines, direct links make it vulnerable to spammers, and that ship sailed for us many years ago. You're welcome to make an account at the fest archive so you can make "signed" comments. You can also leave comments on any community gift announcement from your journal account. Finally, the Lupin_Snape communities allow anonymous comments as well - they're screened, but mods will unscreen them so the participants can see what you have to say.

Can you tell we want your comments? Nothing encourages and gives back to the participants like reading what you thought of their work. I won't make comment rules, however, if you spot typos, send a message to snupin_santa at yahoo.com, pointing them out. We'll fix 'em! It would only frustrate anonymous participants to be told there's errors in their work - they can't fix errors until after the exchange. But the elves are happy to, so leave those comments with us!

NOTE TO PARTICIPANTS:
1) Once the gift you created is posted, whether it's a story or art, if there's a major problem that needs to be fixed, you may email snupin_santa at yahoo.com, and one of the elves will fix it. The gifts from the Snupin Santa account will be moved to the author/artists' accounts sometime after the reveal in January if you spot minor corrections that you want to make. If you're a participant who doesn't have an account at the site yet, you might want to make one.

2) Writers might also want to check the text of their story to make certain it's all there. We double-check to make certain there weren't copy/paste errors when uploading long stories, but accidents happen.

3) DO NOT leave any comments on IJ, LJ, DW, or the archive that might reveal who you are! This is an anonymous exchange, and we want to keep everyone guessing until the master list is posted in January. You won't be able to answer feedback comments anonymously on the website, so you'll have to wait until January to reply, but I'm sure in the interest of maintaining the anonymous fun, no one will be offended by the lack of a speedy response.

4) I strongly advise using the comment tracking systems on LJ/IJ/DW, even if you don't normally use them. There are people who will comment only at IJ and people who will comment only at LJ, etc., so if you don't check your gift post at all three journals, you might miss some feedback. If you have an account at IJ/LJ, all you have to do is click the thumbtack icon at the top of the post. On DW, there's a "track this" link at the bottom of most posts. If you don't have an account at one of the journals, you can always bookmark the post and check back.

That's all our preliminary business out of the way, so all that's left now is to wait for the Snupin Santa sleigh to arrive! There will be over 30 new RL/SS stories and graphics posted between December 1-29 - all eras, all ratings, long stories, short stories, smutty art, sweet art, romance, dark themes, holiday cheer, tear jerkers, and happy endings. No matter what flavor of Snupin is your favorite, I guarantee there will be something for everyone!

The Crack Broom: A serious conversation

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

If you're not familiar with the Crack Boom, it's a LiveJournal community dedicated to reccing all things Harry Potter. The community is presented by pairing and some broad topic categories.

Snape/Lupin as a long, strong history at the Crack Broom, in both stories and art. In fact, in terms of sheer number of recs, our pairing is only behind Harry/Draco. That's how much we, as a community, have been dedicated to reccing Snape/Lupin where all sorts of Harry Potter fans gather.

The reason reccing at the Crack Broom has always been important to this community is that it helps us attract new and dedicated fans, and it keeps our pairing in the eye of other HP fans. Right now, the Snape/Lupin reccing queue is empty, but I'd like to think that it's not our time to go dormant there.

The Crack Broom community requires a minimum of 4 story recs in a month - that's only 1 a week average - and there's a new rule allowing 2 re-recs of works from 2007 and older. That means if you've wanted to promote an older story there, but someone got to it first, you can rec it again with your own spin on why people should read it. Videos, art and podfic recs, in addition to 4 story recs, are also welcome at the community.

If reccing at the Crack Broom has always intrigued you but seemed too complicated, there is a new How-to post here. Also, anyone hanging out in IRC chat would be willing to help you, and you can email me to set up a chat appointment on any platform you desire. I'm happy to consult with you the first time you rec!

So, if you're interested in reccing Snape/Lupin for the Crack Broom, you can reply to the pairing queue here. If you want to rec in November, you can reply to the current flyer round-up post here. If you have more questions before you sign up, you can reply here and we'll all try to help you out.

I hope we're not going to let this proud Snape/Lupin tradition die out in 2013!

ETA: Only two new sign-ups so far. Really need a November reccer! And in case anyone was wondering, I'm not signed up with the idea that I could step in when needed, but I think you all know what a bad idea it would be for me to try and rec in November! ^_^

Mod post/Discussion: Friday the 13 special ComiCon edition w/Community Housekeeping below

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

This is your lucky day, everyone, because we're going to have a fun discussion that I hope will carry on throughout the weekend!

ComicCon started as a convention for comic book fans but somewhere along the line, likely with the rise of superhero blockbuster movies, ComicCon shifted to become an all-encompassing entertainment extravaganza. If you're a fan of any genre TV show, or looking forward to the next franchise movie, you're probably already familiar with ComicCon, and whatever social media you follow is positively drowning in news. All this inspired today's topic:

What other couples in any media (books, TV, movies, video games, etc.) remind you of your vision of the Snape/Lupin relationship?

Discussion questions & logistics:
> Keep it to one couple per post and put the couple's names in the subject line. You can make multiple posts.
> Couples can be any mix of genders or other that you wish. (3CPO/R2D2? Fine!)
> State first, in just a word or two, your approach to the SS/RL relationship. (Friends, enemies, lovers, etc.)
> Then tell us what about the other media couple makes you think of Snape/Lupin.

Feel free to reply to each other and dig deeper into your thoughts on the couple presented, just be sure to respect each others' opinions. No one should be trying to change anyone's mind on Snape/Lupin or the other couple/media chosen, but feel free to say why you love your chosen media in hopes of gaining it new fans.

While you're free to use the InsaneJournal and DreamWidth Lupin_Snape communities for discussion, you might want to keep an eye on the LiveJournal discussion, as that's where most people post these days for now.

_________________________________________________
Members! You can prepare for future discussions:
> Your Comfort Fics/Art with links
> Stories you want to see added to the Snupin Library, and I'll see if I can update it (Big maybe, but we can keep a link to the discussion, too).
> Stories and art you might want to offer on a Remix list (not an exchange, but permanent list)

Other housekeeping:
Postcard exchangers - if you received your postcard, you need to let me know. If you haven't sent yours yet.....(do it!)
Snupin Decade Winners - If you're on this list, drop me a line with your top 3 charities. Make sure donations can be accepted online. I'll write you if I don't hear from you but help a busy mod out?

Enjoy, all! Can't wait to discover new versions of Severus and Remus!

Mod Post: Quickie update....

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

OK, in the U.S., no one is getting much done this week because the 4th of July holiday falls in the middle of it. In fact, lots of families and professionals are probably taking some vacation time.... *whistles*

So, for now, let's continue the HPSS challenge. Postcards/Letters are continuing as a sub-theme as well.

For the rest of the month, I'm thinking of some housekeeping kind of challenges. Gather up your fic, drabbles and art, people, you're going to need it. This includes readers, as we might have some sharing discussions.

I encourage all the Snupin LDWS participants to re-post their drabbles here if they haven't already. I'd love to comment on your work individually. Links back to your journal posts are always welcome.

Also, if you're participating in the postcard exchange, feel free to share parts of what you sent or what was sent to you. I wouldn't give your whole card away, because mail is special, but if something really moves you, go ahead!

Finally, what do you all think of a little role-play for the postcard theme? *mysterious*

I'll get some stuff rolling on or before July 9, although no one has to wait for me to put up a discussion post or even a challenge! In the meantime, don't forget to respond to those who are posting here. They need your encouragement through comments!

Mod Post: June challenge - Snape/Lupin and the Philosopher's Stone

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

15 years ago, on June 30, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was released in England. To celebrate, let's put together stories/art/icons/knitting/etc. involving Snape and Lupin during the summer and first year of Harry's time at Hogwarts. So, the name of this challenge is simply:

HPPS 15 years of Harry Potter Magic - with an image of the very first Harry Illustration for Bloomsbury

Now, remember when I said that Postcards and Letters would be the sub-challenge for the next few months? This is why, because one way you could approach Snape/Lupin in HPPS is to show us their correspondence.

Ideas for this challenge off the top of my head, just to get you thinking:
Snape and Remus (apart or together) spy on Harry during the summer he receives his letter to Hogwarts.
Snape and/or Remus are part of the letter-delivery crew that plagues the Dursleys.
Remus wants to know how Harry's been and thinks Snape will tell him.
Snape wants to know why Remus stayed away so long.
Remus has doubts about getting to know Harry again because....
Harry's birthday falls on a full moon that year.
Remus surreptitiously watches Harry play Quidditch.
It's Remus or Snape who urges DDore to give Harry his cloak/take him away from the Mirror.
One or both observe Harry at the Mirror.
What are Snape and Lupin doing while Harry/Ron/Hermione face the Tests and find the Stone?
Remus or Snape or both know Nicolas Flamel/deliver him the news about the Stone being a target.
----------->ETC. ADD YOUR SUGGESTIONS IN COMMENTS!

The tag for this challenge is - prompt: HPPS
The tag for the letters and postcards sub-challenge is - prompt: postcards/letters

You can add both tags, as well as fic or art ratings, etc., whenever they apply. And please use the tags. It will make attempting a masterlist at the end of the challenge much easier. Anyone can add an existing community tag to entries, so if you want to be helpful and add missing tags, please feel free.

The HPPS Challenge ends June 30! If you have any questions or need some encouragement, reply here or contact me in any of the numerous ways there are to get a hold of me. Remember, any creative or academic pursuit of this prompt is welcome. You don't have to be a creator to participate. Discussion posts, a link list, a single rec, or an essay or web layout or just about anything goes as long as it involves at least one of our men and touches on the challenge.

Hope we see lots of new and interesting posts this month to celebrate the very beginnings of our fandom! Don't forget to encourage the posters with your comments, too. *hugs community*

Mod Post: Housekeeping, lots of questions for you toward the bottom....

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

After a long bit of quiet, a housekeeping post first:

1. Snupin LDWS continues! Are you like me and keep forgetting to read and vote? Well, stop that! If we need to set up a mutual poke-ring, I'm in, because I need it, badly. Writers, whenever you feel like it, you're welcome to post your drabbles to the community for public comments.

2. HP_May_Madness also continues! This is a daily romance challenge, but since this is the first year, everyone should feel free to jump in before the end of the month with any HP pairing of your choosing (although, since you're reading this here, Snape/Lupin for one day, please!) 200 words and drawables minimum, and there's daily prompts. I've promised myself to get in on at least one day. Join me in the pledge? It's here on LJ and here on IJ. Also, please help spread the word to fellow het and slash fans for an end-of-May push!

3. Where to post: Don't forget that there's Lupin_Snapes on LJ, IJ and DW. Right now, we're not paid up anywhere, but I think I'm going to pay up LiveJournal when I have time to re-work our sidebar to match what's on IJ. I guess that's me saying that LJ will be our home base for the time being because it's most active, and if LJ gets wonky again, we'll retreat to IJ and DW again. Of course, IJ still has a strong following and I won't be abandoning any of the three current LS comms, and you should always consider cross-posting if you want more attention for you work. Finally, if anyone knows how to make a syndication feed on DW or from a DW community, help me out by setting them up and letting me know? Thanks!

4. Crack_Broom - this is a reccing community, and we've traditionally received some good traffic from people making SS/RL recs there. Because of some moderator shifts, the community has been in free flying mode and will remain so until the end of the month. So, if you ever want to rec a single Snape/Lupin piece for everyone to see, now's your chance! Starting in June, the reccing schedule is back. Here is the Snape/Lupin queue at this moment:
June: bluestocking79
July: osmalic
August: ghot
September: azure_rosa
August: midlagedfangirl
September: nimrod_9

If you see your name on this list and need to make changes, let the mods know with a reply on this post.

5. Snupin Decade Winners - Whoa, remember this?? I have an initial list of winners that I'm going to float here. If your name is missing from the list, you need to contact me. I'm going to point to this list for a week or two, just to make sure everyone has time to check their place out. Do Not be afraid to contact me. Me and my wonderful, wonderful helper, [info]snapealina, definitely were confused in a couple places and might have missed something. I want to hear from you if there's any doubts!

azure_rosa
lzqsk (posting on behalf of DAN)
cordeliadelayne
geri_chan
islandsmoke
stasia
sitruunavohveli
whitestar_alpha
snapealina
domaris_sky
alisanne
hogwartshoney
Ellid
bonfoi

Thank you so much for your help with this list, Lina! Just remember, any issues with the list are my mistakes alone. Snapealina's help was a huge step, but I had to take it the rest of the way once she gathered up names and places.

6. Guest Mods for challenges - No, I am not stepping down as mod. However, when I go through crazy times like I did this spring, I have to wonder if it wouldn't have been better to have called on a guest mod to run a monthly challenge. What do you think about this? Would you be as responsive to a guest mod (I hope so, but...?)? Is taking on challenge duties for a month (which pretty much entails coming up with the challenge, answering questions, asking me to make a tag, cheerleading it through the month, and posting a master list at the end) something you'd like to do sometime? Feel free to "think out loud" in a reply.

7. Community "other" ads? So, we have some community alumni who have had work published. We also have lots of talented people around here with Etsy stores and artists who are available for commissions, etc. How do you feel about a Friday "Ad" day, where members only can post an advertisement for their paid (or, uh, volunteer???) work? This work wouldn't have to touch on Snape/Lupin - it would be a perk of being a regular, current or past, community member, and I would happily delete anyone who tried to advertise to us that I didn't recognize or who didn't get in touch with me with lots of links. *smiles evilly* I wouldn't post about this every Friday, but, rather, add it to the rules. Yes, no, maybe?

Sorry I haven't been around this Spring, but the thing that used to kick my butt in the Fall, which you noticed less because we were all in Snupin Santa mode, was moved to the Spring. Personally, Fall is my favorite time of year and I relish not losing it to the butt-kicking thing, so the move was good for me. Unfortunately, though, it meant less time for me here during a period when we're somewhat free of exchanges, and I dislike that intensely. So, again, apologies, and please poke me anytime you think I'm in need of it. I might grumble, but I won't bite. ^_^

And that's it! Challenge post along with postcard exchange will come later today.

Mod Post: Challenges April-August?, where else you can spread Snape/Lupin love....

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Arrgh! I won't go into personal explanations, but it's been a busy two months. Your overall challenge for April - June is:

Postcards and Letters

There's going to be sub-challenges to this in May and June - Dark side and 15th anniversary of first book. However, in a few days, I hope to organize an actual postcard exchange. So, feel free to get started on anything related to postcards and letters for this month, but be thinking ahead on what and how much you want to produce through June!

Also, I'd like a show of hands interested in a second round of a Remix exchange to run in July and August.

There's a fic search here that could use more help.

The Crack Broom is having a special Free-Flying month. I am guessing they might skip the normal June Free Flying month because of this change, so get a Snape/Lupin rec in for stories or art while you can. The community has created a new "collaboration" tag, if that inspires anyone.

Finally, while the Snupin LDWS has the minimum number of participants for this round, there's still room left on the participant roster. Sign up fast if you're interested, and I do encourage you to give it a try if you're on the fence. It's a good writing challenge and the feedback was always helpful and encouraging.

I encourage you all to cross-post to more than one community when posting so you can reach the widest audience possible. Lupin_Snape exists on LJ, IJ and DW (and JF and DJ, but I doubt people are looking there too often). Links are on the sidebar.

More when I get more time to breathe!

Mod Post: Remus' Birthday, Scavenger hunt, etc.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
In case it wasn't obvious, your challenge this month is to celebrate Remus' birthday, which is this Saturday, March 10! Anything Remus goes, even gen, as long as you don't pair him with someone other than Severus (for long).

There's a Scavenger Hunt on, did you see? Read here for rules and here for a related story and to add your screened responses to the challenge! (as there's been no tally post yet, I'm going to assume Phantaz meant Sunday, Midnight, March 11)

As our eagle-eyed members have pointed out, there's Snape/Lupin popping up in a variety of fests and exchanges. There's no better way to spread the good Snupin word (or art!) year-round than by signing up for a fest/exchange/big bang/etc. For example, HP_Porninthesun, a summer exchange, is still taking sign-ups. If you'd like to look for other avenues to release your inner Snupin upon the world, check out Potterfests, which is a terrific resource for what's going on around fandom.

Not that I don't want you all participating here, of course. But it never hurts our cause to circulate!

Finally, I've reason to go poking around the Snupin Santa archive this weekend. If you haven't responded to your gift yet, you might want to. It might not be a requirement of the exchange to respond to gifts, but there's nothing stopping me from poking you with a stick to do it, either. ^_^

Happy Birthday, Severus!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

So, Severus, you're 42 52 - If only your moderator could catch up to the decade!

(According to Douglas Adams, "42" is the answer to Life, the Universe and Everything, and at least we know it's community member [info]stasia's Answer Year!)

Maybe this is your answer for a happy 52? Look under here )

What do you think Severus' birthday should bring him? Share your thoughts!

Mod Post: Year-Long Challenge reminder, BLU update, Snupin Santa

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Last chance to post your Year-Long Challenge piece! Sunday is the last day of July, so be sure not to miss it - only three months to go!

If you're not posting monthly, you're also running out of time to participate just to celebrate the pairing's decade in existence, so be making your plans. The celebration ends in October.

As always, if LJ is down, you're welcome to post on the InsaneJournal or Dreamwidth Lupin_Snape communities. The posts will count toward the Year-Long Challenge, so no excuses if LJ is down.

*****
BLU is getting closer to a release, however, if I wrote you in the past few days about your BLU submission, please respond. If you haven't heard from me and think you should have, that's also a good reason to reply here or send me an email at lupinsnape at gmail.com.

In return for your patience, everyone, I promise that we will stagger this release so that you'll all have time to savor each piece.

McKay is stepping down from Snupin Santa duties this year. She founded the exchange and has been an excellent mod for 6 years, and she has our deep respect and thanks for her time and effort.

I've never been a particularly brilliant exchange mod, and I'm not sure we have enough interest to even run another year. For now, why don't you leave me your thoughts either in reply here or an email to the mod mail. I'm not saying this to drum up a bunch of, "I'll participate, promise," responses. I'd like your honest opinion about Snupin Santa as it exists, how you feel about participating in holiday exchanges, whether you want another round or to end it, and what other ideas you have or have seen that might interest you or others for the holidays.

We'll do something for Christmas, and we will likely continue to utilize the Snupin Santa structure in place, but further decisions right now are up in the air.

I'm saying this so you can feel a little free-er, of course, to spread the Snape/Lupin love to other holiday exchanges, which are beginning their sign-ups now (OMG)! Whatever we decide to do on the community, it won't be organized in August, so you'll have time to knock out a couple other exchange pieces before we get started (haaaa).

Hope you are all surviving the summer heat or wintery ice! *HUGS COMMUNITY*

Mod Post: BLU PH, Year-Long Challenge, Crack Broom, & other June events

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

I need one more BLU author. I hope it will be the last, but.... Anyway, I would prefer a new author over someone who has already written for this round, but I'll take all offers at lupinsnape @ gmail. com and will make the assignment by June 1. I can give up to three weeks to write 5000 words, but two weeks would be better. Image is G-rated and includes Minerva if that will help inspire someone to sign up.

*****
The end of the month is coming. Did you get your Year-Long Challenge post done? June is the only catch-up month (and you can even jump in to the challenge in June if you missed the start), meaning if you missed posting in other months, June is the one month I'll allow you to make multiple posts. Your total number of posts by the end of June should be 8, and each should be marked with the project: a decade of ssrl tag.

If you would like to add an author tag to your posts, you can use "zauthor: username" as a tag and I'll approve them as I see them. I think we've reached the point in the communities where anyone can feel free to tag work with a "zauthor: username", "zartist: username" or "zcontributor: username" tag (contributor for other creative and participatory pursuits like games and puzzles, longer rec lists, etc.). This includes going back to tag your old posts, if you wish, and includes IJ, LJ and DW Lupin_Snape communities. I don't think new tags will show up until I visit them, so be patient.

*****
One artist has posted for the mini-BLU challenge. If you'll remember, writers can drabble/ficlet to art pieces for the Mini-BLU and the art and drabbles will appear on the site. Deadline is June 6 for art to be posted, and I'll give to June 8 for drabbles on anything posted on June 6.

*****
The Lusty Month of May is near the end at Pervy_Werewolf. There were quite a few Snape/Lupin stories going for the month. You should pop on over there and check it out - but be sure to comment!

*****
June is "open flying" at the Crack Broom recommendation community. That means anyone can make a Snape/Lupin rec over there in June as long as the work hasn't been recced before. Also, if you're wondering where you are on the reccing queue for the pairing, you can check out the Big Queue list. If you'd like to sign up to rec for a future month, you can do so here. (And I asked to be taken off of May, in case anyone checking the queue is wondering. ~_^)

*****
And that's it. I guess I did the June update early. There's no official challenge in June other than Mini-BLU and catching up for the Year-Long. If you need inspiration, I invite you to check out old Mod Posts. I've decided that running a H/C fest is going to be too challenging for me this year, though, so July and August challenges are open to suggestions (or volunteer mods for challenges) right now.

Thank you all for your participation here. We're getting smaller and having to adjust, but our members are still the best around, and I never forget that. ♥

Mod Post: Catch-up, BLU news, MINI-BLU challenge, etc.!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Good gawd, these DoS attacks all over are killing fandom. Or at least my ability to get to it!

BLU2 Update: We've had a writer drop out, so priority #1 is to find a new writer. Anyone feeling up for it? I'm extending the post start date into June, so you would still have over a month to write. I need to get my communication on with the writers and artists I haven't heard from yet....

In case of Fandom Emergency: You should know that there is a Lupin_Snape on Dreamwidth. If both IJ and LJ are making you crazy, you are always welcome to post on DW and add linking posts on the other Lupin_Snapes when the sites are back up. I'll try to add all the links to all the journals. If anyone knows how to make a syndication feed of the DW Lupin_Snape on IJ and/or LJ, and vice versa on DW for the other two, please, could you do that and let us know? Thanks!

Linking: As you may have noticed, the Snupin_Prophet is dormant again. This means that your fellow fans are relying on you to let them know when you spot Snape/Lupin content outside of the Lupin_Snape communities. Your posts don't have to be pretty, but they would be helpful and welcome. I try to add material that I find to my memories on all 3 journal platforms if anyone is looking for fresh material. You don't have to wait for me to share a link, either, you're welcome to post it yourself. That said, if you just can't post on your own, I will happily take links over email and share them as I can. Today's quick and dirty link is the Daily Deviant masterlist for March, which had several Snape/Lupin pieces: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/daily_deviant/396589.html?#cutid1

Challenge schedule through August:
April - May: Mini BLU (to be explained)
May: Encourage all to check out The Lusty Month of May Challenge
June: Year-Long Challenge Catch-up, BLU begins posting
July: BLU finishes posting
July-August: Hurt-Comfort Fest (a prompt fest like Fantasy Fest)
August: Sign-ups for Snupin Santa will open omg!

Mini-BLU Challenge! - Imma gonna make this as simple as I can:

Artists - Post a drawable to the Lupin_Snape communities and I will snag it and post it on the Big Bang (BLU) web site.

Writers - Reply to the art posts with drabbles or ficlets and I will use my mad copy and pasting skillz to add your work to the art. If you write something longish, you can post it separately on the community, but you must link back to the art, and you must tag your work! (community project: mini-blu). I'll take text files at the mod mail if you want to save me C&P time, but it's not required.

Potential Problemz - I'm not going to know exactly how to arrange stories and art together until I see what kind of turn-out a piece gets. Also, authors are unlikely to get a by-line on the BLU site. So, members, please be vigilant about leaving comments on the art and story posts for this mini-bang.

The Point - This is to let the artists who didn't have time to produce full works of art and our members who don't feel confident with writing longer works in on the fun! Don't get caught up in creating something at the same level as the other BLU pieces. This mini-challenge will have its own tag on the site and no one should be expecting more than some yummy bites to tide us over until BLU2 goes live.

Sound fun? (I hope so...) Deadline is June 10 for both drawables and drabbles!

I know it's Easter Weekend, so expect some modly references back here next week. Be safe, eat candy and pet fuzzy things, even if they're just your families. ~_^

Mod Post: February Challenge, spreading the BB Art Focus word

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Kisses post on LiveJournal: More prompts and fills here!

Challenge: February Kisses

Warm or cold, romantic or violent, telling or dismissive - who doesn't want a kiss in February? In this month's challenge, you can ask for a kiss, give one, or both. Anyone should be able to play, even if you don't feel you have a creative side. Read on....

Steps to participate:
  • Reply here with a kiss-related prompt and put "Request" in the subject line. It doesn't have to be nice, it doesn't have to be long. In fact, it's a short month, I'm encouraging prompters to keep it on the simple side. Your involvement in the challenge can end here, but I hope it won't. ^_^

  • Look at the prompts and pick one that appeals to you.

  • Create or find something that somehow fulfills the prompt. It can be drabbles, art, stick figures, photo stories, images from the internet (not hotlinked), haiku, a quote, icons, or whatever your mind can come up with in response to the prompt you choose. Any rating and any "tone" (angst or romance, etc.) accepted.

  • No need to claim, prompts can be used by anyone, multiple times.

  • Either post a reply to the prompt or post to the community, crediting the prompter, with the tag "prompt: february kisses". Your post may also count toward the Year-Long Challenge.

Multiple prompts may be made, but try to keep your number of prompts on the reasonable side. There's no limit to how many prompts any one person can fill for the month. Challenge ends February 28, although late entries are always accepted.

If you need prompt inspiration, a basic format would be: a place, an object, a setting, optional additional character/s. But a prompt can also be a bit of lyric, a picture or something else entirely. The basic format is just for people who need some direction to get started.

I hope Severus and Remus will have many good and bad kisses this month! Many thanks to P-for-Polkadots for letting me steal and adapt her challenge for the month. If you'd like to play with this challenge in wider pool of characters, see P's original Kisses challenge post, also running this month, here.

I have a confession to make. Your mod is a terrible promoter. I need to spread the word about the Snupin Big Bang: Bigger, Longer and Uncut 2, Art Focus to the wider fandom. Some of you have already made posts in your journals or other communities, and I appreciate that so very much. But I know I have some work to do, too.

If you have any ideas or suggestions of where you'd like to see the BB advertised, please let me know. I know that I find it annoying when a challenge shows up everywhere on my flist, so I'd love your suggestions of where to begin and where the BB notice might be welcome. I'll work on spreading the word on Sunday...because fandomers hate the Super Bowl, right? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. ~_^ Don't be surprised if I wait until Monday! Anyway, thank you for any kicks in the pants that you can give me! ♥ all!
