Fan art (of sorts)
Hola. Soon to come will be pictures of the project I had made mention of before, which will show Remus transforming. I just need to get good shots of them with the camera since they are too large for the scanner... ANYWAY! Until then, here is some fan art of sorts.

Warning! This may be a tad image-heavy.

Title: Developing a Potion without Taking the Credit (or: Severus' Messy Desk)
Rating: G (though there is a little blood)
Notes: Contains photos some spy must have taken of Severus' desk, including the Wolfsbane recipe, some ingredients, some sketches/notes, and a letter to one Damocles Belby.

What a cluttered desk! Spilled wax and crumpled-up failed attempts everywhere! Tisk tisk.

Sketches of a human skull, a wolf skull, and what Severus theorizes must be a skull in transition between the two. Also little scribbled notes in the margins...which he seems to have a habit of.

The Wolfsbane recipe and some ingredients (though it is unconfirmed as to whether or not all of the ingredients to the right do indeed match up to the ones used in the recipe).

A letter signing away all rights to the potion. What could these "reasons of my own" be that Severus speaks of?... Why would someone work so hard at developing such a breakthrough and then willingly hand the credit over to someone else?

A scan of the letter, for your convenience.

If anyone would like a scan of the recipe or the sketches as well, please let me know. I also have several other shots of the entire thing from various angles and various close-ups. If anyone would like some for stock images or something, again just let me know.

And now... Teasers for the transformation piece:

The desk photo is excellent - what a great idea! I've never seen anything like it. The skull drawings are amazing.
Can't wait to see the transformation art!

Thanks! The skull drawings are a reproduction of similar sketches I did when working out how to go about doing the transformation pieces. That's what gave me the idea for all of this. ^_^

Bloody hell!
That's taking artistic and creative to a whole new level!
Love the whole secrecy aspect, and what great spiky Snapey handwriting.

Haha, thanks! I was actually worried that people would be more like "what the hell!? this isn't fan art!" when I posted it. So, I'm glad that my fears were proven wrong. ^_^;

Bloody hell, that is awesome. I am totally obsessed with this type of artworks - I don't know what is the correct term? Assemblages? The skull drawings, and Severus' handwriting, and the wolfsbane ingredients, and is that a piece of an actual bone?

I kind of asked for something similar as one of my Snupin Santa requests - I don't know if my Santa ended up using the idea, but if they didn't, you just filled a hole in my heart. And if they did that's even better. >:D

The transformation drawings are quite nice too, I can't wait to see the in-between stages!

Thanks so much! And yup, that's a piece of actual bone. Found it when I was a little kid, and I think it might have once belonged to a dog or something. In any case, it seemed like the sort of a thing a potions master would have lying about. Perhaps?

I hope that your Snupin Santa did end up using the request, because I like things like this too. It would be neat to see what others come up with!

Waa! That's so cool! I love that candle, it just gave the hole thing such a magic mood. Oh and the red stuff really looks a lot like blood (er, but it isn't, right?).
And you pic! I've hardly seen a wolf so well drawn, can't wait for the finished piece! ;D

The red stuff is balsamic vinegar with red food coloring to give it just that extra little bit of reddish tint. Was originally going to use water, but realized that balsamic has a much more similar consistency and color.

And thank you very much. ^_^

Well, it's the fault of this fandom being the...how did you put it..."new shiny". I suppose it also doesn't help that I work at a place that sells HP stuff and so constantly get my thoughts directed this way. >_>

Fantastic! I love all of the details on Snape's desk - the crumpled parchment, the splatters and drops . . . hmmm, it does look like my own desk (except mine's covered in layers of papers, post-it notes, pens/pencils/markers/any form of a writing instrument, notebooks with quickly jotted notes - I think you get the idea).

Wolves have been my favorite animal since childhood, so it didn't surprise me to be drawn to Remus. The wolf was the only thing I could actually do reasonable artwork on in my school's art classes. I will look forward - very patiently, I might add - to the transformation pieces. If those teasers are anything to go by, they will be just as fantastic as your work of Snape's desk.

Wolves have always been my favorite animal as well. Most of my room growing up was covered in wolf stuff. :)

While I had hoped to have the transformation project uploaded by tonight, it looks like it may have to wait until after Christmas. Working retail during the holidays leaves absolutely no free time, it seems...

It reminds me of the Snape handwriting in hateloveletters, particularly the capital S's in his signature. In fact, I thought for a second you might be the same person that was writing for him.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]omni_sama
2007-12-31 12:10 am UTC (link)
Not the same person, no. I do believe they had him write in all caps (which I just cannot bring myself to do).

I am sad, though, that hateloveletters seems to have suddenly stopped with no sign of ever finishing.

Sometimes the simplest solutions are the hardest to find. Stop worrying. If anyone is attuned to elegant simplicity, it's Severus.

[info]omni_sama

Indeed it is why we are all here. It's odd... There are some fandoms I've been into for YEARS, and this is a relatively new fandom for me... And yet... I've never done things like this for the other fandoms, nor have I wanted to do so much fanart as I do with Snupin. Huh.

That is a most interesting work! (lj user=bronze_ribbons>' tribute ficlet sent me here; I'm happy it did.) I love this digging into the specifics, right down to the samples spread on the page - and the idea of fathering the wolfsbane on Belby.

Thanks! It was far more time consuming than anticipated, and at one point very messy (I got "blood" everywhere), but it was fun to do. So, I'm glad that others like the results. ^_^
