Previously, I've done a Hawaiian-themed rec list and a Japanese-themed rec list, so for my final Decade of Snape/Lupin entry, I thought I would put together of a list of fics where Snape and Lupin travel to other countries. (Inspired by this comment from wolfiefics on IJ: "Makes you wonder what other 'geographic' themed stories are out there where Snupin Goes World Hopping?")
It's by no means comprehensive, and I know there must be a lot of other fics out there that have them going abroad, but here are a few of my favorites. (If they seem familiar, some of the entries were borrowed from past recs I've made on snapedom.)
Title:Rolling With Punches, for dingochow From: little_iago Summary: It took Snape three days to track Lupin to New York City. It took nearly three weeks to find him. Rated: Gingersnaps (PG13) Notes: Post-Deathly Hallows/AU. This story “kinda, sorta” got away from me. Actually, it turned into a beautiful monstrosity, but time was not wibbly-wobbly enough on my side to bring it here in its entirety. This is a chapter in the middle of our boys’ adventures into a life after their supposed deaths… Word count: 7801
Snape and Lupin have fled to America to escape the Ministry's persecution against werewolves, and now Snape is trying to track down Lupin, who left him abruptly without warning or even a note. His search leads him to Club Werewolf, which is (of course) run by and for werewolves. I loved the OC werewolves and the unique American werewolf/culture society that the author created--werewolves are treated better in the US than in Britain, but they still face prejudice and so are protective of their own and suspicious of outsiders. I loved the main plotline about Snape and Lupin, but I found myself wishing that the fic was longer or that it had a sequel so that I could read more about the American werewolves!

Title:Mad Wolves and Englishmen, for odogoddess From: nehalenia Summary: When two quarreling Order members are sent on holiday together, they quickly discover that Albus Dumbledore is a strong believer in ‘bonding through adversity’. In this case, ‘adversity’ is a town called Purgatory, Texas. Rated: Coal and Switches (NC17) Notes: Dearest odogoddess – It was such a delight to write for you. I made a few small changes to your prompt to get the story to work, but I hope you’ll still enjoy it. Sadly, I had to leave out ‘tea-bagging’ so I added an extra dose of h/c and smex to make up for it. Many thanks to my long-suffering and unbelievably wonderful betas/brit-pickers who must for now remain nameless. I honestly could not have made it through this without your help and cheerleading. The title is taken from a Noel Coward song, the refrain of which goes “Mad dogs and Englishmen / go out in the midday sun”. The characters of Arley Wheelis and Opal Bellmiller are inspired by (if not outright based upon) characters from the hilarious play “Greater Tuna” Word count: 17435
This was freakin' hilarious! A terrific fic with wonderful OCs, where Snape and Lupin are plunked down in a small Texas town by scheming Dumbledore. I love stories where Snape and Lupin are able to escape the British wizarding world, so I really enjoyed this one. It actually reminds me a bit of the fic Banished, where Snape is banished to an American school of magic as punishment, and it turns out to be the best thing that ever happened to him. In this story, Snape feels as if he's been banished to the real Purgatory, but eventually starts enjoying himself, rather against his will.
While Dumbledore's machinations work out for the best here, I can't blame Snape for resenting the way the old man manipulates him (and everyone else), and his and Lupin's stay in Purgatory provides a welcome respite for them both--one that they (and the reader) hope will become permanent someday.

Title: Banished; Chapter 1 begins here (I've collected links to all the individual chapters in my Memories for quick reference.) Author: zephyr_macabee Summary: After Severus exposes Remus Lupin as a werewolf, Albus Dumbledore decides to punish him by banishment. A/N: Goes AU after POA; Snape is not at Hogwarts for Harry’s fourth year. Disclaimer: None of this is mine; it is all JKR’s. This is purely for my amusement.
This story was already recced in the Hawaiian list, but it's worth mentioning again for the main Arizona setting and the Shaman Institute of Arizona, which is more modern than Hogwarts, and uses an interesting mixture of magic and Muggle technology. And as the name of the school implies, they also make use of Native American magic in addition to the type of Latin-based spells we've seen in the books. The American OCs at the school are quite colorful too; I especially like the stern but compassionate Headmistress Margaret Twofeathers, who knows exactly how ruthless and manipulative Dumbledore can be, and isn't about to let him do any more damage to the emotionally broken Snape.
There is also a sequel to this fic called The Chili Cook-Off in which Harry and Sirius come to visit Snape and Lupin in Arizona.

Title: Turnabout Prince, Parts 1-4 Author: Rosy Rating: PG13 Pairing(s)/character(s): Snupin, with a hint of Phoenix/Miles if you squint a little Summary: It's been years since they've moved to Los Angeles, and now Severus has been accused of murder. Remus goes to the only man he thinks has a chance in hell of proving his lover innocent. But even Phoenix Wright himself may have a hard time with this turnabout. Disclaimer: *ahem* Severus Snape, Remus Lupin, and any mentions of Potterdom canonical characters are property of J.K. Rowling and Warner Brothers. Phoenix Wright and the cast of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney are property of Capcom and Nintendo. I make no claims of ownership and am not making any profit by their use. Warnings: AU, crossover with Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney aka Big Gay Lawyers. Notes: As with Cowboy!Snupin this is entirely Dizilla's fault. She always gives me the best crack. Set Post War (obviously AU, since they are both alive and well in the City of Angels), and after "Turnabout Goodbyes", the technical last chapter of the first game. I am fiddling with PW canon a smidge... but you'll only notice it if you've played both Ace Attorney and Justice for All. This is a WIP. You do not need to have played the PW games to enjoy the fic. ^_^
(Note: I copied the header info from Part 1, but the story is now complete and no longer a WIP. geri_chan)
This is a wonderful mystery story and post-war AU in which Severus and Remus have moved to L.A. Remus is working as a children's author, and Severus is a photographer, and both have achieved a great deal of success in their fields, under pseudonyms. Severus is accused of murdering a rival photographer, and defense attorney Phoenix Wright is hired to defend him. It soon becomes apparent that Severus is being framed and that magic was involved in the murder, but who set him up?
As a fan of both mystery novels and Snupin, I found this a suspenseful whodunnit with a clever and satsifying resolution at the end. The relationship between Severus and Remus is also well done: the story opens with the two of them already an established couple, and the love that they have for each other is apparent, but Snape is still Snape with his trademark snark. It helps to have played the Phoenix Wright video game or to have read the manga, but it's not necessary. The author explains the characters and circumstances well enough that the story is still understandable and enjoyable even if you aren't familiar with the Phoenix Wright universe. I read the first chapter myself without any knowledge of the game, and I was intrigued enough by the characters to go out and buy the the manga (two volumes have been published in the US, initially by Del Rey and now by Kodansha).

Title: Bungle in the Jungle, for lore From: arionrhod and scribbulus-ink Summary: After being stranded in the middle of nowhere, temperamental chef turned TV host Severus Snape develops a new-found appreciation for his capable right-hand man, Remus Lupin. Non-magical AU. Rated: Holiday Spice (R) Notes: Happy Snupin Santa, lore! Based on the following prompt: "AU, magical or not up to author. Snape is a travel/food writer sent on a big assignment to a thought-to-be-safe exotic land with capable, knowledgeable, kick-ass assistant Remus. Whether they know each other or not up to whether you choose magic or non-magic AU. Snape's mouth gets him into trouble and it's his Guy Friday, Remus, to the rescue. Smexy action-adventure." Word count: 36810
A wonderfully humorous AU in which Snape is a Gordon Ramsay-like chef/TV host (although the show is actually more reminsicent of Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations) and Lupin is his personal assistant. There's a nice tip of the hat to canon with Regulus Black as Snape's friend and financial backer, and restaurants named "House of Black" and "Le Prince." And the relationship between Snape and Lupin is quite interesting, as their friendship and subsequent romance is allowed to develop without the baggage of the Maruders' past, as there is no schoolboy bullying or Shrieking Shack prank in this version of events. Snape still has his trademark snark, though, which leads to them being stranded in a South American jungle, but this actually turns out to be a blessing in disguise (though it takes some time for him to appreciate it). The story is hilarious, the sexual tension is hot, and the food descriptions are mouth-watering--a delectable treat for any Snupin fan!

Title: The Black Robe of Flanders, Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, and Part 5 Author: ellid Rating: R or thereabouts Summary: Severus must find and disarm a legendary horcrux, with Remus as his assistant. They didn’t count on the complications. Warnings: snarking, kabouters, smoking of tobacco and other substances, references to legal drug use, possible pre-slash, bad food. Note: this is for the Fantasy Fest prompt "kabouters." I have made the kabouters somewhat larger than they really should be, and have likely offended many people from Fryslan, Sneek, The Amicitia Hotel, and the Low Countries in general. I can only plead ignorance and throw myself on the mercy of King Kyrie.
Also, this is only partially DH-compatible, as Snape, Lupin, and Tonks all survived.
A delightful story in which Snape and Lupin are sent on a mission to the Netherlands in order to track down a horcrux, aided by a humorously eccentric kabouter (a gnome-like creature) named Bram, who deals in what we Muggles would call "magic mushrooms" (hence the warning for legal drug use). I loved the character of Bram, Snape's snarky complaints about the local cuisine, and Lupin wrestling with his attraction to an oblivious Snape.

Title:Youth is a disease from which we may recover. Author: red_day_dawning Prompt: “Youth is a disease from which we all recover.” Characters: Severus Snape; Remus Lupin; Charlie Weasley Pairing: Snape/Lupin Rating: NC-17 Warning/s: oral sex in the shower Word count:~3,850 Disclaimer: JKR owns all Author’s notes:Intended for the birthday prompt for Snape’s birthday at lupin_snape, this story raced along, sadly ran out of stamina & then took its own sweet time to conclude…I had planned to give Severus the perfect birthday present – a new life and Remus Lupin!Alas! Inkgeist beta-read and extensively helped me - I am grateful for Inkgeist’s time and generous assistance. My thanks to Inkgeist.Any mistakes are my own.
Snape has relocated to Australia post-war and is living a quiet, anonymous life there--until Charlie Weasley unexpectedly shows up, asking for his help in curing Lupin, who has been stuck in his wolf form since the Battle of Hogwarts. Each had believed the other to be dead, and it was lovely and moving to see them discovering that they've been given a second chance to be together. And Charlie was awesome, too!

And finally, a piece of artwork that perfectly fits the theme for this list!
Album, for real-life-rosy From: brunaghot Rated: On the Nice List (G) Summary: Rosy, this is an album made by me and Severus with some of the pictures from our last adventures around the world. I have selected only pictures where Severus is smiling, yes he is, in all of them. ;) Well, I really hope you like it. Happy holidays! Remus. Notes: Prompt - "Around The World and Back. Severus and Remus survived, and after the war they decide to go on a trip around the world (with Teddy? Up to you). Create their photo album for me. Pick any destinations you like; India, Rome, Greece, America. But the center photo is from Japan, during Cherry Blossom season; Severus plucking a stray sakura petal from Remus' hair." *the chosen places are Tokyo, Paris, New York and Rio de Janeiro*
The artwork is beautiful and I really felt as if I were getting a sneak peek at Snape and Lupin's photo album! All the pictures are gorgeous, but as you might have guessed, my favorite was the Tokyo one--I love the sakura petals and the tenderness in Lupin's expression and Snape's gesture.
