SNUPIN SANTA 2011 RULES
Greetings all! Welcome to Snupin Santa 2011! Yay! ALERT! THIS IS NOT THE SIGN UP POST! This post includes the rules for signing up and participating in the fest. Actual sign-ups will begin August 15. Many of these rules are the same as past years, but some have changed, so please read carefully for all of the juicy details!
The Fest:
Snupin Santa 2011 is an anonymous winter holiday gift exchange. That means if you sign up, you will give someone a gift and you will receive a gift in return.
All gifts must be Snape/Lupin-centric, although you may request threesomes (or moresomes) involving Snape/Lupin as well as any slash or het secondary pairings you'd like to see.
If you have never participated in an exchange fest before (or even if you have), please read this post by flyingcarpet for advice about how to be a good exchange fest participant in general. The entire point of holding this exchange is to have fun, and what will keep it fun is if you make a real commitment when you sign up, and follow through. I don’t take my responsibility to this fest lightly, and I hope you won’t either. Woo!
How to Sign up:
Snusers, listen up! The prompting rules have changed! READ CAREFULLY. You will have to revise your prompts if you do not follow these rules, and that's no fun.
DOS
1. You MUST offer 5 prompts, and at least one prompt needs to be art specific. (Yes, this means you might receive art. If you feel strongly that you don't wish to have art, please contact the mod privately.)
2. You MUST limit each of your prompts to 150 words or less. Ideally, try to include at least one prompt that is shorter and more open-ended, especially if your other prompts are very detailed. This will help with matching and will also give more options to the person creating your gift.
3. You MUST offer at least one prompt that takes place in the world of canon. In other words, you cannot only request AUs (although you can ignore the deaths of Snape and Lupin in DH for post-war requests).
4. Please prioritize what you want in numerical order, with #1 being your most desired choice, or indicate in your sign-up if you have no preference.
5. Snupin Santa is not a smut-fest. If you want to create or receive something rated PG13 or under, that's perfectly all right, just state your preferences clearly. If you're under 18 and you'd like to participate, you are welcome to do so as long as you don't create or request any NC17 material.
6. Try to strike a happy medium between being too vague and too specific with your prompts. Try to give the writers/artists some details to inspire them, but also leave them some room for their own creativity. Also, if there is something you really want a certain way, don’t hesitate to make that clear. However, if you've got a very specific plot bunny that you want written/drawn in a specific way, you might want to keep it to write/draw yourself!
7. Snupin Santa is a multi-media exchange, which means other media beyond stories and art are welcome! If you've been wanting a Snape/Lupin layout or icons or a fanvid, this is the time to ask. If you have skills you want to share beyond writing and art, this is the place to do it. However, please only offer skills that you are strong in and are prepared to use for someone else. For example, if you don't feel confident in your skills in making icons, don't say "well, I can make icons, but they'll be crappy" in your sign-up. It'll be easier for me to match you if I'm given concrete info on what you’re willing and able to do.
DON’TS
1. If you have received a gift based on a specific prompt in any previous fest, including Snupin Santa, you may not recycle that prompt. You may only recycle prompts that have not been used as the basis for a gift before.
2. Please do not link to your likes/dislikes post if you have one. Because I’ll print out the sign-ups for the matching process, it's easier on me if you copy/paste the content of your likes/dislikes post in a comment(s).
3. Do not write or draw any prompts that are not assigned to you. I realize reading through the sign-ups comments will probably be tempting and inspiring, but please don't do it. It really messes things up.
4. Do not make a request based on the fanwork of anyone else. For example, don’t request art based on a fic you did not write. If you didn't create it, it may not be used as a basis for a prompt.
5. If you're under 18, you must answer honestly in your sign-up comment. I'll be checking.
Below is the template you will fill out to sign up. REMEMBER THIS IS NOT THE SIGN-UP POST. Do NOT post sign-up comments here. I'm just posting the sign-up template ahead of time so you will have a chance to decide whether you want to participate and so you can plan your prompts ahead of time.
LJ/IJ name:
Email address:
Five gift requests (each 150 words max, at least one specifically for art):
What medium you're willing to create: (stories, art, icons, vids, etc.):
What content you're willing to create/you'd like to receive: (kinks, secondary pairings, dark!fic, romance, etc.)
What content you aren't willing to create/don't want to receive: (squicks, secondary pairings you don't want to see, ratings limitations, etc.)
Are you over 18?: yes/no
Have you participated in Snupin Santa before (this includes pinch hitters)? yes/no
If you're a returning participant, from whom have you received a gift in the past?
Here are some examples of gift requests:
1) I'd like a set of icons featuring Person X and Person Y as Snape and Lupin.
2) I'd like art for my story, "Snape/Lupin Epic Romance". My top choice would be the scene in the Forbidden Forest, but an illustration of any scene that inspires you would be wonderful.
3) I'd like a story in which Snape and Lupin go on holiday to Transylvania and meet other werewolves; submissive!Snape adored, orgy with werewolves optional but welcome.
4) I'd like a story set during Order of the Phoenix, where Snape and Lupin are secretly starting an affair. Bonus if Sirius finds out somehow. Either angst or humor welcome.
Sign-ups will be open on LJ and IJ between August 15-22, and anyone who signs up during that time (following the correct procedure) will be in the fest. If you're going to be away during that week but you want to participate in the fest, please fill out the template and email it to snupin_santa @ yahoo.com asap. Do this ONLY if you are going to be unavailable between August 15-22.
August 22 is the absolute last day to sign up, and any signs ups after that will not be accepted.
On August 23, I'll begin matching requests. You should receive an email containing your assignment no later than September 1. You won't get to choose whom you create for, but if you absolutely can't fulfill any of your recipient's requests, let me know asap, and we'll work something out.
This is an anonymous exchange, so do not reveal whom your recipient is and do not post your gift yourself! Do not post or archive your story/art/other gift elsewhere until after the master list of submissions has been posted and the names have all been revealed in early January 2012. After that, you can post/archive wherever you please, but until then, keep it a secret. :)
How to submit your work:
ARTISTS:
1. Due November 1 for first time participants.
2. Due November 15 for returning participants (including pinch hitters from last year).
3. Images and icons may be sent zipped or unzipped. All graphic gifts - art, icons, banners, etc - will be uploaded to the Snupin Santa website to preserve the anonymity of the creator.
4. Do NOT put your name/user ID in the file name (i.e., don't name your image "rlssby[yournamehere].jpg"). I'll just have to change it in order preserve the anonymity factor. Please don't put your signature ON the artwork either until after the reveal in January.
5. When submitting your gift, please identify your LJ name and include header info: title of the piece(s), rating, notes, and/or any warnings at minimum. IDENTIFY YOUR RECIPIENT IN THE EMAIL.
6. All gifts should be sent to snupin_santa @ yahoo.com.
WRITERS:
1. Due November 1 for first time participants.
2. Due November 15 for returning participants (including pinch hitters from last year)
3. You may submit your story in .doc, .txt, .rtf, or .docx format OR you may share it via Google Docs. Do NOT send .html files. All gifts should be sent to snupin_santa @ yahoo.com.
4. Stories should be at least 1500 words in length; there is no maximum length.
5. When submitting your gift, please identify your LJ name and include header info: title, rating, summary, notes, and/or any warnings at minimum. IDENTIFY YOUR RECIPIENT IN THE EMAIL. Please don't identify your beta readers in your header info since it might jeopardize your anonymity.
6. Tag your own HTML code for bold and italics. Do not simply bold or italicize in the document without using the code ( < i > and < b > without the spaces), because I'll send it back and ask you to include the code.
If Things Go Wrong:
We are all real people with real lives, and things sometimes go wonky even with our best intentions. If that happens to you at any time during the fest, please contact me right away at snupin_santa @ yahoo.com. Whatever happens, please don't stop communicating with me. Not knowing where someone stands is the worst situation to have.
If you absolutely can't finish your submission in the time between receiving your assignment and the allotted deadline, email me, and we'll work out a (short) extension.
If I haven't received your submission or a request for an extension by the deadline, I'm not going to chase you down. I'll post a list of the participants whom I haven't heard from in lupin_snape. If I don't hear from you after that, you'll be dropped from the exchange, and your assignment will be given to a pinch hitter.
If you don't send in your assigned gift, you won't receive yours; it will be given to someone else, and you won't be allowed to participate next year.
I will return work that does not fit the requests of the recipient, does not adhere to the recipient's want/do not want lists, or does not show evidence of time, effort, and/or thorough editing put into the work. If your work is returned to you, you will be given extra time to revise and resubmit your work.
Posting:
All gifts will be posted at the Snupin Santa archive, and gift announcements will be made at lupin_snape on IJ and LJ daily throughout December. Gifts will be posted in random order.
If you have any questions about the archive, please reply here or contact me by email.
A Note About Your Mod:
I am not someone who is on the computer 24/7. It may take me (or any other volunteers helping with the fest) up to 24 hours to respond to your email. Please be patient. Also, because I am on the west coast of the U.S., the timing works out that I am often online and active when much of the rest of the community is asleep. :) Just be aware of that, and again, be patient. Thanks.
Most importantly, let’s have fun! Keep your eyes out for opportunities to volunteer to help, and look for the sign-up post on the 15th! Hooray!
