The Case of the Slipper Thief
“So that’s it. I have to call the Aurors,” Snape murmured into his cauldron, frowning. “Three pairs of slippers vanished in the course of three months! There has to be a thief in the house. A slipper thief.”
He stirred, added finely sliced flobberworms to this concoction.
“It’s a pattern, methinks,” he mused. “Every time the moon is full, my slippers vanish. And then a week later I find them … well hidden behind the garden shed. Chewed and mangled. Interestingly though, the wards have never been breached.”
Then he paused for drama, tapping a thoughtful finger to his lips, affecting deep thought.
“Do you have a suspect in mind, Watson?”
Behind him something in the shadows moved and growled. Yellow eyes blinked guiltily.
“What say you, Watson?” Snape cupped his ear. “You ought to work on your vocabulary! Are you confessing perhaps?”
A “woof” answered him, then Moony traipsed towards him, his tail between his legs.
He looked up at Snape with the biggest puppy eyes he could make.
“Another pair of slippers you chew, and next full moon you’re in the dog house!” said Snape silkily. “You can stop trying to look cute. You’re a werewolf. Have some pride.”
Moony crouched and whined, then hid his muzzle underneath his paws.
Snape rolled his eyes and fed him some slices of flobberworm, which Moony snapped up enthusiastically, muttering something about “manipulative werewolves”.
Moony meanwhile eyed the new, black slippers Snape was wearing, with interest, licking his muzzle.
