Drabble Night Chat Drabbles
Title: Drabbles from Drabble Chat
Author: kittylefish
Pairing: Snape/Lupin, of course.
Rating: G; one might verge towards PG.
Word Count: Ranges from 117 to 362.
Warnings: Fluff, silliness.
Notes: These are my drabble night drabbles, so were written in ten minutes each. I looked them over before posting, but they've not been carefully edited or betaed. It was my first time playing, and I was happy to discover I am capable of writing anything at all in ten minutes. :D
Prompt: Keeping Warm
Words: 362
It was cold, so cold. Remus rubbed his hands together to warm them. He didn't know why he'd been stuck out here on patrol tonight. Most everyone else seemed to be roaming the hallways inside the school, but he'd been sent outside to patrol the grounds. Surely someone else must be out here with him, but he hadn't seen anyone in the past—he checked his watch—two hours.
He stomped down to the greenhouses. Anyway, though trouble was undoubtedly brewing in the magical world, he saw no sign of it at Hogwarts tonight.
"Must you make such a racket?" he heard from the other side of the path. "If there were anyone about, they'd have had ample time to hide."
"Severus. I didn't know you were out here, too."
"Yes. You and I both seem to be on somebody's list tonight."
"I don't recall doing anything to get me thrown out into the cold. How about you?"
Severus lifted one eloquent eyebrow. "What do you think?" he drawled.
Remus laughed. Though the night was cold, it seemed the Potions master's icy exterior was actually thawing a bit.
Remus stamped his feet again and rubbed his hands together. "It's so cold tonight."
Severus looked at him as if he were daft. Or a moron. "Remus. You are a wizard. Have you tried a warming charm?"
"Of course. After a while, the cold seems to get into my bones anyway."
"Ah." Severus turned away from him and looked back towards the castle, but he didn't walk away as Remus would have expected.
Remus eyed the man speculatively. "You know, there are nicer ways to keep warm." He licked his lips nervously. Did he really have the guts to do what he was about to do? Severus might hex him into next week. But … he might not.
"What are you on about?" Severus turned back to him. "Like next to a warm fire, or under a cozy blanket?"
"Or this," Remus said, leaning towards Severus and putting an arm around him.
At first, Severus stiffened, and Remus prepared for the worst. After a moment, the Potions master relaxed. "Another agreeable method," he concurred.
Prompt: Mulled Wine and Gingerbread Men
Words: 117
Remus opened the door and was instantly met with the scent of pine and spices. He found Severus sitting in front of the fire, sipping at a mug of mulled wine. A small tree stood in the corner waiting to be decorated.
"I thought you didn't want a tree," Remus said, walking over to kiss Severus hello.
"I don't," Severus said. "But you do." His dark gaze traveled over Remus's form. "Remus," he purred seductively into Remus's ear, his hand resting lightly on his belly.
"Yes?" Remus murmured breathily.
"You might think about introducing some other colors into your wardrobe. With this paunch you're developing, you're starting to look like a gingerbread man."
Remus slapped his arm. "Git."
Prompt: Pages
Words: 180
Whenever Remus entered the staff room, he always found Severus in the same position, sitting by the fire with a newspaper in front of his nose. He never bothered to look up or to acknowledge Remus's presence. Remus took to asking him obnoxious questions about the headlines merely to get a rise out of him, or any sort of response at all, really.
Severus usually confined his replies to monosyllabic grunts.
On this particular day, Remus lost his patience. After the third rebuff of his attempt at conversation, he stood up, walked over to Severus, and snatched the paper from his grasp. "Would it kill you to engage in polite conversation for once?" he practically shouted.
Then he noticed what the paper had been hiding. He grabbed for the book Severus had been reading.
Severus tried to stop him, but to no avail.
"What's this?" A simple Finite Incantatem later, and Remus was staring at the Muggle book in amazement. How to Find and Keep the Man of Your Dreams. "I think he's standing in front of you," he said.
Prompt: Photograph
Words: 200
Snape hunched over his desk, his quill dancing swiftly across the parchment as he revised his latest article for Potions Weekly. Suddenly, a bright white light flashed in his face. The quill slashed an angry red mark right through the middle of the page, a mark which paled in comparison to the ire Snape felt. "Remus!" he shouted as he threw down the quill and glared at the man. "Must you shove that infernal thing in my face all the time?"
Remus looked at the camera in his hands, then back at Severus. "But I have to practice for my photography class, and you are the only subject at hand."
"The only subject—Is not our home full of objects you could abuse? Must you torture me when I'm trying to work?"
"Well, you could stop working and pose for me." Remus leered naughtily at his irate mate. "Perhaps even without all the …" He gestured at Severus's clothes.
"Are you seriously suggesting I pose nude for you?" Severus inquired icily.
"Well, nude or tastefully draped," Lupin replied.
"Perhaps if you had simply asked me sooner, we could have avoided all this unpleasantness," Severus said as he unbuttoned his shirt.
