Trading Places Art: Those I Can Save

Author's Notes: Those I Can Save is a lovely story with many sweet little details, any of which would have made great illos, but being a whack-mobile- I went straight for the fluffy cow. I hope the other two illos make up for it, for I really liked the story. (Especially the cow scene. Mooooo.)

"You don't fool me," Hooch said. "You'll be out of that bed the instant you think you can crawl to the loo. I have Pomfrey's permission to hex you for your own good as soon as you try to do too much too soon."

Instead of replying directly, Lupin continued to pet the bull. "I'm very fond of this breed," he said. "Its cows are as sleek and smart and fearless as they come." A ghost of a smile flickered across his face. "They're also infamous for their tempers. This one belonged to Hardwick Manor, but he kept charging over and crashing through the fences there."

When he regained consciousness, it took him several minutes to realise he had been moved to his bedroom, and that Remus Lupin -- back in his human form -- lay beside him, deeply asleep. He placed a shaking hand on Lupin's forehead: it was reassuringly cool, and his breathing was steady. He raised himself up and pressed a kiss where his hand had rested.

Antonia's smug voice floated from the foot of the bed. "I told you he'd have eyes only for Uncle Da."

	Aaaa! The work of two people whose work I love, coming together in perfect harmony. This is too good to be true. :) The look on the bull's face is priceless. 	Wow, you did the Remus-compares-Severus-to-a-cow scene! I loved that part. You do such a nice job with the kiss--I love the way you draw men in love. Well, I have a few other things I love here too--Hooch's broom, for instance. Oh, so lovely to see these. (Reply to this) (Thread)

Eeeee! How did I get so lucky? *flails happily*

Some of the things I love about these:
Hooch's boots. (WANT!)
The swooshiness of the broom.
Snape's bedraggled look as an invalid.
The progression from bedraggled to trim-but-still-recovering, then waking up clean/better-fed.
THE COW. (Yay! And yes, the expression on his face -- that is one contented bull. As he should be.)
Lupin's jacket and boots, especially in contrast with Snape's jacket and boots. Stellar characterization there.
Antonia and Jonah with their books! Oh, they're perfect.

I am so very delighted and honored -- thank you for these!

	Yay! Thanks so much! I am so glad you liked these! I had so much fun reading the story and drawing the pictures. I even went and looked up some visual reference for that kind of cow, because that cow scene was just so awesome that I just had to. Best cow scene ever! 	This was one of my favorite Snupin Santa stories, so I was delighted to see some artwork to go along with it! I love grumpy-looking Snape in the first picture, the happy-looking bull in the second, and the third is just...awww, so sweet! ^_^ (Reply to this) (Thread)

	Oh, excellent! I love the way Severus' pyjamas are buttoned right up even when he's in his sickbed! And he's still got his long buttoned jacket on in the scene with the bull, where Remus is wearing typical 'farming' clothes, and his wellies! And Hooch's fly-away hair, to match her broom (or is that the other way round?) And of course, the last scene is very sweet. (Reply to this) (Thread)

	The cow scene!!! Awesome. :D These are fantastic illustrations of a wonderful fic - Love Hooch's boots and hair and Severus' bedhead. :D Love how bemused Severus looks as Lupin chatters while petting the bull (who looks absolutely blissful)... and most of all, love the affection and the kiss and Lupin sleeping and... happy sigh Perfect. These are the sweetest illos I've ever seen! :) 'Those I Can Save' was one of my favorite stories from the fest; it's nice to finally see some lovely artwork to accompany it. I love them all, really - Hooch's tousled hair and boots in the first; the second which is my favorite of the three, with the cow's cute expression, Snape's buttoned-up garb next to Lupin's laidback rural clothing; and Snape's tender kiss on Lupin's forehead in the last one - awww!
