Nano day 4
Actually wrote this yesterday, but today's section is breaking the time line so I thought I'd post this instead.
The past week had been... messy.
Owen really wanted to hit the egg heads whenever he heard them going on about the behaviour that Managarm and Fenris were displaying. Personally Owen thought that if you locked any adult son in a room long enough with their father and a fight would break out.
The only thing that surprised Owen was that it hadn’t happened immediately after the foxes had been taken away.
It had taken Losan going into labour to trigger it.
Fenris had only been trying to calm down Managarm and Losan when Managarm had lashed out.
Owen was amazed that Fenris hadn’t replied in turn.
The older wolf hadn’t backed down either, he had just stood there blood dripping from the gash on his muzzle letting his son see what he had done to him.
Managarm had turned away and refused to look at Fenris again, until the vets had come into the cell to take Losan, and Fenris away.
Leaving Managarm alone.
When Managarm had been moved to a larger cell. Which already housed Fenris, the cracked truce had held for a few more hours.
Then Losan and her pup was brought to the same cell.
It was clear that Fenris was desperate to see his grandchild, but when Fenris so much as flicked a ear in the wrong direction Managarm would start snarling.
And when Managarm attacked Fenris a second time, it was Managarm that was left pinned to the floor, bleeding from the nose from where Fenris had hit him.
Owen blinked when his apartment’s door rung. He closed the evil machine that called itself a lap top, the data on the screen just as unread as it had been when he had opened it.
He was never going to find his daughter if he let the wolves keep distracting him. But at the same time, they hadn’t given him away as one of the infiltrators from the disaster at the channel island complex, that kind of trust really should be repaid.
And that was just the tip of the iceberg of what he owed to Fenris.
Owen opened the door and stared at who was on the other side.
“Hello Dad.” Valente said.
This is going to hurt. Owen thought as he saw his son’s fist flying to his face.
Maybe that’s why Fenris hadn’t retaliated to his son’s first attack. He had been to surprised to react.
Valente was leaning against the door frame, two fox morphs behind him, one, a female swift fox was trying to peek over his son’s shoulder the other, a male red fox, had a hand over his eyes.
“I thought we were going to ask for his help.” The red fox said.
“I was getting to it.” Valente said. “I’ve been waiting a year to do that.”
“Actually it’s only been six months in story time.” Jonah pointed out.
“Semantics.” Valente waved the correction off.
“AnywayCan we please quit the with testosterone?” The swift fox said pointedly glaring at the fourth walls breakers as she pushed back Valente and crouched before Owen as he was sitting up.
Owen sat there bemused as Mani pulled a tissue from her jacket pocket to clean the blood away from his nose and then checked him for a concussion.
“Mani I didn’t hit him that hard.” Valente complained sounding a little guilty now. Good.
“You may not have.” Mani said shooting Valente with a glare. “But did you think about how hard his head may have hit the floor?”
“Er...”
“Thought not.” Mani turned back to Owen. “Are you okay?
“I guess...” Why are you here? How did you find me? What do you what?
“Found my sister yet?” Valente asked.
So his boy had figured out why Owen had betrayed him then.
“No.”
Valente smirked, it was a nasty bitter thing that didn’t belong on the man‘s face. “I have.”
