FAIL @ me for posting this in my journal first. x_x; I hardly ever do that.
WHOOPS.
I totally forgot about the theme last week. Er. Moving on. This week's theme will be ARMAGEDON. Apocalypse, whatever you want to call it. You get the gist.
And to start, here's one I'm fond of.

The new theme will be UNREQUITED / DOOMED LOVE. Dramatic, I know. But I can't think of much else at the moment, and "love" is too broad, don't you think?

I must thank the last poster for reminding me of this song. Silly of me to forget in any case.
Original version by Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood. There are a couple of cover versions; The Corrs and Bono; Scooter; Ville Valo and Natalia Avelon. This last version was done in 2007 for the soundtrack to Natalia's movie Das Wilde Leben and is the one, other than the original, that I like best.

Sarah Brightman - Join Me |

Finland covers abound here, people. Excuse me while I be predictable some more. :)
Original artist: The Ramones Cover by: Children of Bodom
Somebody Put Something in My Drink ( Kick the jukebox, slam the floor )
Original artist: The Ramones Cover by: H.I.M. They do a loooot of covers, guise. Expect a daily quota to be met. ... :)
Poison Heart ( This one still survives )
Original artist: Savage Garden Cover by: Entwine
Carry On Dancing ( Keep romancing )
Aaaand this one is for Cloud. You can thank me later. ;) Or attack me, whichever.
Original artist: H.I.M. Cover artist: Sarah Brightman's cover is the first one I heard, and therefore the artist I'm going with here. But there are also other covers by; Gregorian featuring Sarah Brightman Gregorian featuring Amelia Brightman (which I prefer because her vocals are softer than her sister's) Ibrahim Tatlises (which I haven't been able to find audio to hear yet) Lightforce (tehcno version that's mostly music and only features the "join me in death" bit of the chorus)
Join Me in Death ( So before life tears us apart, let death bless me with you )

Blackmore's Night is the band that Ritchie Blackmore, former guitarist of Deep Purple and Rainbow, has been working with for the past 15 years or so. He and his partner, Candice Night, have blended pop/rock with Renaissance music and created something completely unique and beautiful.
There is usually a cover song featured on each album. I found it interesting that they chose to cover a Deep Purple song on one album, and a Rainbow song on another. There is also a second version of "Street of Dreams," with Joe Lynn Turner, Rainbow's vocalist, singing a duet vocal.
I encourage everyone to check out their music.
"Wish You Were Here" -- original by Rednex

"Self Portrait" -- original by Deep Purple

"The Times They Are A-Changin'" -- original by Bob Dylan

"Diamonds and Rust" -- original by Joan Baez

Got another. I probably have a million of these, haha.
"In the air tonight"
Phil Collins Covered by Nonpoint
The funny part about this song is that not even Phil Collins himself, who wrote it, knows what it's about (according to wikipedia), haha. And personally, I think the Nonpoint version is wayyyy better. *brick'd*
( I've seen your face before, my friend. But I don't know if you know who I am )

AFI - This Time Imperfect |
] |
Original song by Black Sabbath, covered live by H.I.M. in Turku, Finland.
Hand of Doom ( Now it's killing you )
Original song by Billy Idol, covered by ... Cripes. Let me make a list, aha. Drowning Pool (Full Circle), Dope (demo), H.I.M. (live) and Children of Bodom.
Rebel Yell ( A thousand miles for you )
Shockingly, my favorite of these covers is probably the Drowning Pool one. I really don't like HIM's or CoB's very much; screamy vocals don't do anything for Ville, and non-screamy ones for Alexi are just weird, aha. Maybe I'm picky.
