John Sheppard stifled a yawn as he walked down the corridor. After the day he had yesterday, fighting off the Bola Kai and trying to play nice with a Wraith on top of it, he really could have used a little more rack time. Not to mention he felt like he'd gone one-on-two against both Ronon and Teyla in a sparring match. No, scratch that. As sore and beat up as he was, it was more like having played a game of Austrailan Rules football against all of Athos and Sateda, and John himself was the football.

"Good morning campers," he said in a cheery greeting, passing two Marines -- armed with their usual fair and Wraith stun rifles -- standing just inside the doorway and standing guard over their current guest in the brig.

"Has he said anything?" John questioned his XO who as leaning against a pillar watching the tall pasty green being in the cell.

"Not much. Just talk about the weather, thinks the Pats could go all the way this year -- the usual," Lorne shrugged.

"Really? The Patriots? I mean, Brady's good, but he's getting a little old to stay consistant. He can't keep throwing like that forever."

"Ya know? That's what I said."

"Okay," John said in pressing his lips together and took a few steps closer to the brig. "Sleep well?" he asked Schorin, not really caring if he had or not. "Sorry about taking the continental breakfast off the menu," he apologized. "But this isn't the Mariott Marquis and we can't exactly meet your dietary requirements. Now, what was your name again?"

Schorin was sitting on the floor of the cell as the human male came in. He bounced a small ball off the shimmering force field and caught it on its return. He did not react as he was talked to and took his time answering, bouncing the ball once more time before speaking.

"No," he answered his first question. "Your...soldiers were very talkative. I am not certain what this male pattern baldness is but it seems to be a terrible plague amongst your people. I hope you are spared from its...effects," Schorin finally said.

He looked up and through the bars at his captor. He wasn't upset about being imprisoned. He had been in the same situation a good number of times before. He was disgruntled, however, about finding that this human was some level of leader to his people as upon first impression Schorin viewed him as much less than that.

Schorin smirked as he finally stood, rolling the ball in his hands as he came as close as the field allowed him.

"I am called Schorin. You are John Sheppard? Which of these names is from lineage and which are you refered by? Or perhaps it is both?"

Schorin had been listening carefully to the soldiers as he was in the cell as well as to conversation as he was led to the cell. He also recalled what was said casually on the planet. Astuteness had its rewards.

He continued to roll the small ball in his fingers, but delicately making sure not to puncture it with the finger sheaths he kept on his left hand.

"Aw, well that's a pitty," John replied with no pitty what-so-ever that the Wraith hadn't been able to sleep. "Would a nice fluffy pillow help? Blanket?" he snarked noting the smirk on Lorne's face from the corner of his eye.

He walked closer to the cell, getting about as close to it as Schorin had on the other side.

"That's Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard to you," he corrected and frowned slightly at the ball in Schorin's hand, wondering briefly where the hell he'd gotten it.

"Okay, well your name is a difficult one to pronounce. So, I'm just going to call you...," he paused for a moment in thinking of an appropiate name, "Bert."

"And if we find him a friend, you going to call him Ernie?" Lorne asked.

John turned his head to look directly at Lorne, giving him a hard glare.

"Okay," Lorne said in straigthening up.

"So, Bert," John began as he turned his attention back to the Wraith. "What can you tell me about those big Hive ships you have, like how can I bypass your counter measures?"

Schorin tried his best not to hiss at the substitute name. He took a breath and centered himself, rolling the ball around in his hands a bit swifter, as Lorne and John exchanged comments.

"Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard, I sincerely regret to inform you that I am in no way able to assist you with either of your questions. But I must wonder why you desire such information anyway. The Wraith are of no threat to you while they sleep," Schorin said, truly beffudled.

"Also, Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard, I am called Schorin, not Bert. I would appreciate if you afford me with the same respect I afford you." He ended with a trademark grin.

Schorin was more talkative than other Wraith. He used words to his advantage. He loved words, the history of language and the many ways that it can sound. He loved the rythym of speaking in a way that other Wraith couldn't understand.

Schorin was also unaware of the other Wraiths sudden awakening by the same disability that forced him to become independant from the hives.

The Colonel exchanged glances with his XO. Either this Wraith was just yanking his chain or he really didn't know. While John had to admit there was something different about this Wraith, a Wraith was still a Wraith and they didn't change their nature overnight.

"Well, now you see, that's the problem. Your kind have awakened and they're pretty cranky," John admitted. "Granted most folks tend to be cranky when they first wake up, but then after they have their coffee, they're in a better mood," he said as he started walking, slowly circling the perimeter of the cell like a wolf stalking it's prey.

"But you guys -- you take the cake -- and I can't allow you to suck the lives out of millions of innocent people just to put you in a better mood. Contrary to popular believe, we're not good to the last drop. So, that puts me in a position of having to figure a way to stop you and a crash course in Wraith 101 would be very helpful," he smiled.

Now it was Schorin's time to guess if this human was yanking chains or not. Schorin followed his trail, listening with a suspicious glaring as his form disappeared and reappeared in between the cage's restraining bars.

Though Schorin was familiar with English he was well-aware that Lieutinant Colonel John Sheppard was using a number of idioms that made little initial sense to him. But it didn't take much figuring to guess the gist of what he was talking about, especially the wakening of the Wraith.

"How did they awaken?" Schorin asked, softly. The human had gained his interest and he met him again on the other side of the cell. All other questions that he had been asked were pushed aside.

The small ball had paused in his hand between his fingers awaiting an answer.

John finished his circuit, stopping in front of the cell door and cast another brief glance at Lorne who shrugged in reply. Was this Wraith actually serious?

"You know -- Bert," John said in looking pointedly at the Wraith. "It hasn't escaped my attention that you haven't answered any of my questions, yet I've answered one of yours. So, how about we make a deal. You answer my question, and then I'll tell you how your friends awoke. You know, a little tit for tat to bridge the gap between our two species.

"So, I'll ask you again how can I breech the counter measures on your Hive ships?"

Schorin remained silent for a while, giving him a sideways glance. In his mind he weighed the decision to tell the human his state of individuality from his species. Ultimately he decided that it would be wise to keep such...vulnerabilities under wraps.

It was at this point that he stopped cooperating. The more he stalled the more he would be in the beneficial place of being kept from his fellow Wraith.

"Do you have any mending materials? It seems my coat has substained damage," he asked defiantly.

John frowned slightly at the Wraith's refusal to cooperate. Not that it wasn't expected, he had just hoped that since the Wraith had been so talkative on the planet and willing to help out that it would continue to do so. But then again, at the time, the Wraith's cooperation was merely for it's own survival. Hmmmmm... maybe he should throw Ronon in the cell with the Wraith. Maybe the Satedan could change it's mind.

"Aw, now why do you have to be like that?" John asked rhetorically. "We were getting along so well. But have it your way. I'm sure after a day or two with nothing to eat, you'll come around. So, give me a call when you're ready to play ball. In the meantime, I'm going to go make me a sandwich. Boys?" he turned to Lorne and the other men standing guard. "Want anything?"

"No, sir. I'm fine," Lorne replied.

The Marines declined as well.

"Okie-dokie," John said and started walking towards the exit.

"Leiutenent Colonal John Sheppard," Schorin called after him with a smile, "I don't believe you ever thanked me for assuring you and your crew got to safety. I'm hurt. Please say hello to Teyla for me and give her my admiration for her..." a moment to find the word, "acting abilities. She makes an astounding leader." He cocked his head. "Better than most."

He grinned.

John stopped in his tracks, listening for a moment with his back to the Wraith before turning around to face it.

"You know," he said in holding up a finger as he walked back towards the cell. "From my perspective, you should be thanking us for saving your sorry ass. The way I see it, if it wasn't for me, you'd still be stranded on that planet.

"It's kind of sad really when you think about it. I mean, how many years were you marooned there? All alone on a planet full of savages and no attempts at a rescue -- not even one -- forgotten and abandoned by your own kind. Must do wonders for your selfworth.

"Or maybe you were banished. Either way, it doesn't look to me as if anyone cares if you live or die, so maybe I should just go ahead and kill you now -- which, by the way, I have absolutely no problems doing," he said in resting his hand on the butt of his P14.45. "Maybe you ought to consider that the next time I ask you a question."

Schorin was releived of the outcome. As John left, and their conversation ended, he smiled. He caught Lorne in his eyesight and smiled at him as well. He turned back to the cell wall, back towards the soldier, contemplating his next move.

If he told the humans anything of great importance his chance of immediate death if he were to get caught by his own people was assured. But if he relented on telling for too long they would surely allow him to starve for it. But, perhaps, if he told just enough he could avoid both evils and be allowed to escape through the Portal with a small ship where he could travel to a world far from the Wraith presence and rebuild his travels.

Not having many alternatives he chose a course of action and waited patiently for equipment to repair his coat. He rolled the small ball in his fingers and smiled again.

Lorne frowned when the Wraith smiled at him, exposing his dimples. He just hoped it wasn't a signal that the sucker wasn't hitting on him. That would be just... well, it wouldn't be right and disgusting.

When the requested sewing kit arrived, Lorne directed the young Lieutenant to stand in front of the cell and moved beside him, pulling his stun pistol. The Marines standing guard did like wise, leveling their stun rifles at the Wraith while another went to the cell's controls.

"Stand to the back of the cell," Lorne ordered and waited for the Wraith to comply.

And Schorin did comply. He held his hands crossed in front of him, palms down, and very gracefully slunk back to the far side of the cell watching them all with a polite smile.

The humor in this was irresistible to note, but he kept it to himself. All of this fuss over handing a sewing kit to him was ridiculous. His species must have made it clear how dangerous they were. But if they had known how "dangerous" Schorin was they'd probably find all of this presentation of bravado pretty ridiculous as well.

A social being, Schorin would never have thought to attack or cull people who he was currently in negotiations with. And he wasn't even hungry. But, then again, his people could be very gluttonous about their appetites. But that was also for show.

After Schorin had moved to the back of the cell, Lorne looked over to the Marine at the control pad. "Open it up," he said.

The force field around the cell shimmered as the door began to slide open, before winking out entirely. When the door had stopped moving, Lorne nodded to the Lieutenant and he slid the sewing kit across the floor like he was bowling.

Before the kit had stopped midway inside the cell, Lorne ordered for the door to be closed. And it wasn't until it had shut and force field reactivated that the men relaxed their stance and the Lieutenant dismissed.

Schorin stopped the kit with his foot. He crouched down and inspected it. It was fairly primitive, simple. Thankfully it wasn't a bone needle, but it had a similar principle. Schorin was amazed at the similarities of tools of this nature. He had to only assume that on occasion the simplicity of a tool such as this was worth much more than any invention after it could improve upon it.

He shrugged off his coat and opened the kit. After a few false starts he started trimming the charred bits off with much too small scissors that kept dislodging from his fingers and a needle with an eye ridiculously tiny. The kit also contained a small thimble but, again, the size of his fingers impeded any use of it. He became increasingly familiar with the taste of his blood as he pricked himself numerous times in the first five minutes of his self-taught tutorial. He never said he knew how to sew and watching it done in various villages had made it seem easy enough.

Teyla entered the brig and nodded to the two Marines standing guard on either side of the door. Her eyes quickly locked on the Wraith crouching low at the back of his cell before she realised there was someone else there.

"Major Lorne," Teyla greeted the Air Force man with her easy manner. "May I have a few words with the prisoner, please?"

Teyla had not counted on any officer being around. It was not like she had cleared this visit with the Lieutenant Colonel first. Then again, it did not mean Sheppard would have a problem with it. But she certainly hoped Lorne would not.

Evan generally wasn't a sick twisted individual. However, watching the Wraith struggling with the scissors and repeatedly sticking himself with the needle was amusing.

"You know, I always suspected the Wraith were a bunch of pricks, this only proves it," he commented dryly. Yeah, it was bit crude, even for him, but opportunity knocked and he took it.

The Marines in the room started laughing then abruptly buttoned it up when Teyla entered, cluing Lorne in that someone had arrived.

"Teyla," he said in returning her greeting with some mild surprise.

He hadn't expected to see her here, at least not without Sheppard and/or Ronon in tow. And her request was a bit unusual, but maybe the Colonel thought she'd have better luck in questioning the Wraith than he had.

"Uh, yeah. Sure. Just don't get too close, okay?"

"Of course. Thank you."

Teyla nodded in thanks and then turned her full attention toward the Wraith in the cell. He was crouching low, seemingly wrestling with his coat spread out on the floor before him.

"Schorin?"

His name being used startled him momentarily. He looked up and spied the human, Teyla, staring back at him. He found his mouth stretching in a smile, nearly geniune, moreso than the ones he'd been giving for show before.

"Ah. Teyla," he said, standing up to greet her. His purple shirt wrapped around his body leaving one to guess whether Schorin enjoyed the clashing red coat with his shirt or whether Wraith were colorblind. "I commend you on your misdirection. Then again...it isn't hard to believe. You are a more likely leader than...the other." He bent his head so that he could look up at her slyly.

Lorne nodded back and watched Teyla as she approached the cell, his hand positioned where he could pull his stun pistol easily if needed. Though in the back of his mind, he knew it probably wasn't necessary. Teyla could easily handle herself and possessed quicker reflexes, and with the Wraith encased with a force field enclosed cell, chances were unlikely that the sucker could get to her.

However, there was always the possibility of the whole Wraith mind control thing. That's what really worried Lorne and he was keeping a very cautious eye on the whole proceeding.

Teyla felt Lorne moving, poised for defence if something should happen. It never hurt to be ready.

"It was your assumption," Teyla replied to Schorin. "I merely left it uncorrected."

Choosing to ignore Schorin's comment on whom would be better leader, as Teyla was not about to bring in her people into this conversation or discuss the merits of her CO with a Wraith, she took a step closer and studied Schorin a moment longer.

Cocking her head to the side, she gave up trying to sense him. It was like he was not in the room. All Teyla felt where the Wraith's presence would normally be was a void. No, not even a that. Just normalcy. Was he some new subspecies of his kind? Teyla feared the implications. She also hated to be so blind. As much as she sometimes felt her gift to be a curse, she had come to rely on it, like an old friend.

"I would have you tell me how different you are from your brethren," Teyla said, "If you allow me this one question, Schorin."

"There is as much cunning in withholding information as there is in changing it," Schorin said, refusing to ignore her obvious leadership skills.

Her interest in him had not gone unnoticed. The way she looked at him made him think that he was missing a limb. He carefully covered the disconcerted feeling. He knew the look from the past.

"Allow?" He chuckled and shook his head. "Such...courtesy. What makes you believe there is anything that differs from my...brethren and I?" He squinted his eyes, curious.

She reached out again, trying to touch his mind. To no avail. Her eyes refocusing on his face, she swallowed.

"Something is... lacking," she said, knowing the choice of word would probably garner the Wraith's ire. But Teyla could not think of another right at that second.

There was something else the Wraith sensed from Teyla. She was not a stranger to his kind and it was either his imagination or she had been a victim of the feedings of his gluttonous species.

"Perhaps if you were more...specific I would be able to better answer your question," Schorin offered, cocking his head. There was a bite to his voice. He gritted his teeth and looked at Teyla, his eyes glaring from between the bars.

Her eyes narrowing, Teyla had the distinct impression the creature was toying with her. What else did she expect really?

"You know of what I speak," she said. Impatience laced her tone. "How is it that you lack the telepathic abilities of your kind?"

It was not that by asking this so directly she was exposing herself as someone with similar abilities. Had she been facing any other Wraith now they would have sensed as much for themselves. But she would have rather preferred to keep that bit of information to herself since Schorin could not find out about it on his own. As he had said, withholding information or changing it, was a cunning trait. One required in this day and age. And right now she was giving him a freebee, as Sheppard would put it.
