The Saturday marathon arrives, and the day couldn’t be nicer. Prior to the event, all participants, regardless of the race they’ve committed to, would have received information about time limits for each race: 6 Hours for the Full, 3.5 hours for the Half, and 1 Hour for the 5K. As this is for charity, 5K runners would have had their pick of checkpoints to start their runs from. The Half will start at 12pm at checkpoint 13. Along the entire route, a total of 16 aid stations are manned by volunteers to give out water and electrolyte-rich drinks. First aid and restroom trailers are available at each station. Stations 5 and 10 also have energy chews, to get the pep back in your step. Last-minute volunteers for the aid stations won’t be turned away!
Those who signed up for the full marathon are greeted by sunshine as they filter into Embarcadero Plaza beginning at 8am. SAM MALONE and CLYDE MORTEJOY are so excited to see one another, they immediately decide to stick together for the entire marathon. Volunteer 3 might be regretting their decision to drink the night before. TAREK MITCHELL is feeling so ultra-competitive, they hardly notice when Volunteer 5 compliments their running shoes. Volunteer 6 and Volunteer 7 are both late to check-in, and literally run into each other on the way to get their bibs.
Promptly at 9am, the marathon begins. And they’re off!
CHASE MALONE takes off like a bullet. On the Golden Gate Bridge, Volunteer 9 stops to catch a breath and take in the view. They decide to take a selfie with Volunteer 10 before continuing on.
Volunteer 11 (Half Marathon Runner) is so excited, they show up way earlier than they need to. Fortunately, CLAUDIA FLORES is early too, and they get to talking. The time flies by for both of them! Volunteer 11 actually considers bailing on the marathon to keep up their conversation. AMANDA DECLAN is another latecomer, but they don’t collide with anyone. Yet. Volunteer 14 convinces all the Half Marathon runners to take a goofy picture together, to mark the occasion. At 12pm, as the speediest participants of the Full start passing the 27th Street checkpoint, the Half Marathon officially begins! More runners enter the race!
Needing some water, ALEX WESTWOOD stops at an aid station, and ends up flirting pretty hard with LILA CASSIDY-CABELLO. While running through Golden Gate Park, LOU WILLIAMS trips and takes a tumble. INDIE PATEL helps them to the nearest aid station. Volunteer 19 takes a breather and appreciates the view of Stow Lake. Are those ducks?
At checkpoint 18, the runners are joined by some 5K participants (DARREN WAN, NAOMI BLUMENKRANTZ, Volunteer(s) 20).
Between checkpoint 19 and aid station 10 on Haight Street, AMANDA DECLAN collides with CASEY DECLAN. Not intentionally, not maliciously, but the look he gives them would suggest otherwise. Without warning, AMANDA DECLAN is overwhelmed with the urge to break...something. They decide the next runner (KENDRA HATHAWAY) to pass them by is a fair target. And it seems they aren’t the only ones suddenly boiling with a need for violence and destruction.
Volunteer(s) 22 (open to multiple) are all nearby, and they find themselves looking for a fight. The violence spreads like wildfire. Volunteer 23 isn’t affected by this burst of War God power rage, but they decide to throw some punches anyway. Tons of other people are doing it, so why not? REMY DECLAN is a few blocks away at the next aid station, but they hear over an aid station walkie that something nuts is going down, and rush back that way to help. LIA SHASHA-GORDON and LUKA FORTIER duck into a shop to escape the chaos erupting on the street. HARPER MALONE causes some major property damage by throwing a bike through a store window. AMBROSE ALBRIGHT hides with JAY HWANG in an aid station bathroom. Weirdly enough, they find the craziness to be kind of...exciting. KAI HOLLAND is on the receiving end of quite a nasty punch, but KENDIS CRAWFORD-GAGNE is there to help drag them out of the fray.
Even though the event is eventually contained with the help of local law enforcement, there’s no denying the destructive path cut through the streets.
The way Casey’s power works is simple: he can redirect and reinforce feelings of violence, destruction, anger, etc. etc. Feeling ultra-competitive today? Had a bad work week and feeling kind of salty still? If there’s something to grab onto, he can. And then he can amp it up and push you to act on it. Not everybody will be affected by this, and it isn’t something that will be happening with intent. Casey is, to put it plainly, losing control. And, because he’s a destructive creature, he can’t stop any of this once the ball gets rolling. As there will be a great deal of violence and destruction, I’ll put a blanket Trigger Warning right here. For anyone sensitive to these themes, feel free to back your critters out however you see fit.
It should also be noted that this is being posted early so everybody has time to plot and decide how things shake out for their characters. Any reaction posts should be held until Saturday. ♥
