For Rothesis (MCR/HL, Gen, Bastian Von Schonau verse)

title: Nightmare
author: lisa roquin
rating: 15ish
fandom: MCR/Highlander
series/sequel: Bastian Von Schonau
pairing/characters: Matt (/Brian)
disclaimer: lies, fiction, untrue. completely and totally made up. I know no one, know nothing of their personal lives. I make no claims of knowing much of anything.
summary: June of 2012 is a hell of a lot to deal with when the last he remembers he was fourteen and the year was 1992.
warning: angst, angst, angst. memory loss, immortals,
author notes: probably doesn't make a heck of a lot of sense w/out having read at least Bastian's Tribe of Barbarians Musicians. Set during Bastian's Tribe while Matt & Brian were on the bus

His head itched there wasn't any other way to describe it, at least not anyway he knew. His brain itched, sending an army of ants down every nerve, not really painful but it left him off balance and ready to crawl out of his skin and just about ready to--cry or lose his mind.

He didn't know if Brian's hand on his arm made it better or worse. He wasn't sure what was freaking him out more--that he was thirty-four and forgot twenty years or that he was Immortal, which Brian proved by cutting Matt's finger and his own. Proven everything else with that kinda Star Trek-ish laptop computer of his which was nothing like the few computers they had at Matt's school...not surprising with the freaking twenty years he couldn't quite believe was between then and now but he couldn't deny it had been that long either.

"I just want this to be a nightmare and wake up."

"It's real, Matt," Brian murmured.

Oh crap, he'd said that aloud? He hadn't meant to. He...

"I'm not your boyfriend," Matt shivered at the fingers that brushed over his cheek as much as the voice that he knew was his but was wrong, rougher and a touch deeper. Brian wasn't exactly being creepy, not really. He kept patting Matt's shoulder and arm, kind of hovery close and hugged him a bit but it wasn't like he really tried anything. It was freaky, kinda really freaky, but not creepy. Brian wasn't trying to, like, grope him or anything, more trying to make him feel better, or make them both feel better.

"I know, kiddo," Brian murmured. "I'm sorry. Thought I'd lost you completely..." Brian kinda sounded ready to lose it, sick and maybe ready to cry or Matt didn't know what.

Yeah, except he kinda was Brian's boyfriend, or almost or...something. He just forgot that along with twenty years.

He'd woken up with his head just killing him and Brian sleeping with him, like plastered to his side, arm thrown over Matt's stomach, leg half over his, just glued to Matt's side. Even in the shadows of a dying freaking campfire and sky just starting to lighten to predawn gray, Brian kind of looked like he'd been racked when Matt didn't know who he was.

You didn't sleep all plastered into and curled around someone like that that you weren't something, dating or whatever. And the pregnant woman who wanted toilet paper was acted like they were...something. Brian was still acting like they were...something. Trying hard to not be creepy about it, but still acting like they were like...boyfriends, sorta, maybe.

Matt leaned forward burying his face in his hands. Didn't help much for hiding. His hands were bigger, calloused, tattoos on his arm and his cheeks rough with stubble he wasn't entirely sure about shaving.

Brian's arm went around his back and he leaned into Matt, resting his cheek on Matt's shoulder. "One thing at a time. You're not alone, kiddo, got all of us to help you. Keep you safe. FInd holy ground to hole up on for a while."

"Scared," he mumbled into his hands, knowing he sounded like a pussy but didn't really care.

"I know, Matt," Brian turned his head, pressing his face flush against Matt's shoulder rather than just his cheek.

"This is a freaking nightmare." Matt whispered shakily.

Brian just squeezed him a little tighter and didn't disagree.

Poor Matt. To have all these strangers know more about you than you know about yourself. Knowing nothing about them in turn. He has to be hovering between scared and confused with occasional forays into shocked.

Thanks for continuing with this series. This is an excellent Halloween gift.
