hey, on the bus and awake for a good four hours yet Tomo hit send on the text. He glanced at his watch. Eleven. Nine in California which put it an hour past Pablo's bedtime.

"Tome?" his name preceded Shannon yanking the curtain back on his bunk.

"Go away!"

"He's here. Sexting David," Shannon called out heading back up towards the front.

Tomo yanked his curtain back shut sure Shannon was going to pay for Matt getting stuck explaining "sexting" to his dad and grandpa. He hoped payback waited til he got a chance to watch.

Good show tonight?

Tomo smiled at the message. At least David had gotten over his fussing about the damned phone Tomo had bought for him.

Not bad. How'd today go?

Tomo sighed.

Pablo had fun with Bob and Margo tho.

Mm, tell Bob he needs to work on our set. Shannon might be dead soon.

responsible for Matt having to explain sexting to his dad and grandpa. They got here today

Tomo laughed.

"NOT AMUSED, ASSHOLE!" Matt shouted.

"I TOLD DAVID TO TELL BOB TO PRACTICE OUR SET. THEN HAD TO EXPLAIN WHAT SEXTING WAS TO HIM." Tomo shouted back.

Tomo winced. They don't know what to think.

David? S is w/B & J is w/M. not like they. hell J & M, J 8 times of ten goes for women, M about 50/50. Not like they really think twice Tomo groaned as he hit send.

"Oh god, Don't want to hear it!" Tim snarked.

Tim's voice was close enough Tomo swung his arm out, into his curtain and into Tim's thigh.

"Watch it!" Tim complained.

"Keep your damn commentary to yourself or you will pay when Rain's out here," Tomo threatened. He wouldn't keep the threat. He liked Rain. They all did. She was too sweet to deliberately torture Tim in front of—unless Tim really, really really asked for it.

Tomo swallowed he wondered. David had never said a word. Never asked. w/M once. it was only bcuz J asked.

Tomo groaned again. "MATT!"

The curtain to his bunk was pulled back with "Huh?" by Matt

"Go through the text history."

Matt frowned but did. "Don't be a fucking idiot. Whatever the hell, doesn't seem like he's anything but permanent fixture around. Dad and Abuelo are up a while go actually call in back if you have to."

Tomo shook his head. "Pablo wakes up. He'll call me tomorrow."

Matt nodded and handed back his phone just as a text of a single word came.

She'd been back in solitary and no visitors for attacking a guard not long after that. If she kept out of trouble she'd be eligible for visitors again about the time Warped ended.

"Hey, Lucia okay?" Tomo answered his phone, every minute of the last four hours twisted up in his gut.

"Concussion. She got in a fight in the dormitory with a cousin of the girl—the girl died. They took her off life support yesterday. Murder, god, Tomo, she's up for murder..."

"Shit," Tomo whispered.

"She's fine, concussion but will be okay—the baby is okay."

"WHAT?"

"She's five and a half months pregnant," David whispered shakily.

"We'll ask Clair, get on it that the baby goes to you..." Tomo said. "I can ask Matt in a minute—"

"Ask me what?"

"References from Clair on custody for Lucia's kid, and want to practice just in case?" Tomo looked over at Matt who was undoubtedly looking for him.

"What kid?"

"She got in a fight, landed in hospital with concussion this morning. Five and a half months along...Ivana was showing by then..."

"Gloria wasn't with Danny. Barely had a bump then. Bout sixth month before she really showed and then boom." Matt shrugged. "Okay...let me talk to Bri and who he's found for Dessie. See about maybe David getting them too for custody. Have it worked out ahead. You leaving--"

Tomo shrugged."She's looking at murder now. Pulled the plug on the girl they jumped."

"Shit." Matt leaned closer and called into the phone. "Hang in there, David."

"I—I've got to go," David murmured.

Tomo swallowed. "Okay. Tonight?"

"Yeah."

"Problem with Lucia?" Shannon wanted to know.

"What?" Jared was right there.

"Lucia okay?" Tim almost tripped into Tomo.

"Oh for shit's sake," Tomo muttered. "Should never have fucking said anything about sexting."

"Huh?" Tim stared at him leaned close enough over Tomo's shoulder to glance at Tomo's text screen. "You guys aren't dating?"

"What?" Shannon frowned.

"You didn't get in a fight or something stupid?" Jared demanded.

"NO!" Tomo rolled his eyes. "Just friends..."

"Bullshit," was chorused from three different directions.

"You're so into him you're almost as ridiculous as Timmy is over Rain," Jared huffed.

"Hey!" Tim glared at Jared.

Tomo groaned. "Just fuck off, all of you, okay?"

Jared made a grab for his phone and took off running. yes we rly do. so? -j.(&s &t) was in the message history when Tomo managed to catch Jared and wrestle it back.

"You fucking ass," Tomo growled. J got my phone being an ass. headed for bus now. gimme 10.

"You're not together?" Tim repeated.

"Just friends, god," Tomo muttered.

"Bullshit. Those two pulled the just friends shit for a damn year," Shannon jerked his thumb at Jared.

"They were fucking too," Tomo rolled his eyes.

Tomo stifled the groan and turned up his ipod's volume. Abuelo Ramon was getting whatever the hell and riding with Matt's babies in one of the vans.

"YES IT IS MY BUSINESS, DAD! I'VE GOT MY DAMN COLLAR ON HIM AND HE'S STILL GOT A COUPLE WEEKS BEFORE HE CAN HAVE SEX ANYWAY WITH THE DAMN LADDER!" carried over the music. Tomo was pretty sure Matt was going to have a nervous breakdown before his dad and grandpa's tour visit was over.

yeah. Tomo winced even as he hit send. Lucia had been twelve, Pablo had been three when David got custody of them when their mom sent to prison. Just turned fifteen or not, Lucia was fucking scary.

Tomo reached for his ipod turning it up even louder. Jared's screech of he was the one that told Matt to collar BigBrother because the kid needed taken care of. think m is gonna have nervous breakdown before next week

he's explaining to his dad why he's got a collared sub. kid can't say no, set limits so m watches out for him. sets rules when he plays. j is being helpful explaining. j hasn't eaten today & is all weirded over what m isn't telling him til tomorrow.

A minute ticked by, then two and three without a response.

Tomo slid out of his bunk and tugged his shoes back on.

"I'm hiding in the bathroom," Tim muttered squeezing past him between the bunks.

"Going outside," Tomo nodded. The front of the bus was a little more crowded than usual. Shannon and Matt's grandfather at the little table. Ramon looked as ready to try to break up anything as Shannon. Probably thump Matt and his dad both over the head with his cane. Tomo kind of thought the Ramon Cortez was having the time of his life with the craziness on tour the last three days.

He also didn't think Matt was going to survive the seven more until his dad and grandpa went home.

"Tomo?"

"Don't even. No. I—not this time. Jared."

"I'll call Bob," Shannon said quietly.

"NO!" Matt snarled at Shannon.

"Going outside, stay right by the bus," Tomo said making his way past Joe. Matt's dad was more shellshocked than anything it seemed to him.

"Okay. David?" Matt asked.

"Fucked up."

"You need to go a couple days?" Jared frowned.

Tomo shrugged. "I have no idea. Not yet."

"Good cause I need time on pulling it off. Easier to let Tim go," Matt sighed.

"I know."

Jared was sitting on the end of the couch with Alex on his lap. Kid was ready to fall apart, and probably would have bruised ribs by the time Jared let go.

Tomo gave Matt a questioning look.

Matt nodded.

Tomo reached and squeezed Alex's shoulder. "You aren't fucking anything up. You got a damn line that would stick a collar on you to keep you safe, kiddo. Put me on the list after Shan, Bob, Brian, Rox, Niki and Nick. Hell, bet Matt's dad probably would too if he could get his head around some of the crazy fuck shit around here."

Jared held the kid tighter, looking so feral that even Tomo was a little nervous. It had been a while since he'd seen Jared look like that.

"I'll hang onto him when you go kick whoever's ass needs kicking," Tomo sighed with a glance at Matt and ruffled Alex's hair. Something had gone on with Alex that he was curled up in Jared's lap and doing a good impression of Pablo after a nightmare. "Big Brother is too damn good at his job. We can't be letting anything screw him up."

"Good. Someone needs to hold on to him. Got a fucking lynch mob ready to kill," Jared snorted. "All Matt's babies and Artemis, Nick, Rox, Rick, most of our crew."

Tomo patted the kid's shoulder again and headed off the bus. He lit a cigarette and steeled himself before he dialed David.

"Hey," he sighed. "You really okay?" Yeah, he'd already asked but a text didn't tell him how David sounded.

"Yeah. I am."

"Uh huh. I'll be nice and not call bullshit tonight."

David laughed weakly.

"She's still being a little dumbass?"

"Yeah. I, god, I can't tell if it's just bravado or if she really doesn't care that it's murder charges now. Clair's trying but...I don't know. Fifteen years is the best she's going to be able to hope for, and then if her record's clear enough that she makes parole."

Tomo took a drag off his cigarette. Nita, David's sister, had slid into the gang shit by way of drugs and a string of asshole boyfriends. She was screwed up and scary, but Lucia was born into the damn gangs and the kid was about as purely soulless and cold as Tomo had seen in his life. "She wants you to take the baby. That's something. Seriously."

"Pablo is a mess."

"Yeah," Tomo agreed. Kid wasn't even six, his mom was in prison for drug trafficking and assault, his big sister was up for murder. "Matt and his cousin Nick think the world of their Mouse Lori. He should have a good time tonight."

"He told Lori he wished Lucia was like her."

"Yeah, think I do too, for your sake and his at least."

David sighed.

Tomo swallowed and took another drag. "You're really freaking that bad over the guys getting wires crossed?"

"Yes....no..."

"Maybe?" Tomo snorted slightly amused.

A self-depreciating chuff of sound was his answer.

"Hey, c'mon. Just them. Who cares what they think anyway?"

"You do."

Yeah, David had him there. Tomo sighed. "Yeah but...they're..."

"What?"

"Rare crack like Shan's sexting one the other night. Ask what's up with you and Pablo, with Lucia's case. When there's something been going on, am I bringing you or whatever. Nothing traumatic. They've pretty much just decided you're a permanent fixture around that's all."

"They think we're sleeping together and it doesn't bother you?"

Tomo groaned. "It's not like—Shit, D. I—Shan before—years ago, drunk lonely bored. Never anything serious just...a convenient friend. The idea of me—nothing that would...god. I'm outside the bus, okay so...shit."

"Yeah. Watch what you say, I get that," David agreed quietly. "Shannon?"

"Never nothing that was...but yeah."

"Why—"

"What's so hard to get?"

"The part that they think you're dating me."

"What's hard about that? You happen to be a pretty good catch."

David choked. "Are you drunk?"

"No." Tomo snapped.

David was silent.

"Don't get weird, please, D. Don't want to lose my best friend over stupid shit that doesn't matter." Tomo whispered. He dropped his cigarette, ground the butt under his shoe and lit another.

"Not getting weird, just thinking," was David's quiet answer.

"Good or bad?"

"Depends," David murmured.

"On what?"

"Can—can we let it be for now?"

"Yeah, long as you want. Just so we're not screwed up and weird..." Tomo murmured.

"We're not," David said quietly.

Tomo believed him as conversation turned to the insanity of the tour, David laughing at some of the stories Tomo told.
