"Kitty wants a corner."
The group is circled up, and Stephen is in the middle, as usual. He's staring at Paul expectantly, who can only grin and point in the opposite direction.
"Go ask my neighbor," he says, pointing in some vague direction, and Stephen has to turn away. Paul feels a girl's eyes on him, and he meets them, a faint quirk of lips and a small nod and they rush across the circle to trade spaces behind Stephen's back. Stephen whirls around, staring at them in frustration as Paul laughs from his new spot. Growling some, Stephen turns to another man.
"Kitty wants a corner," he grumbles, and he hears the familiar sound of Paul's shoes squeaking in movement behind him and Stephen turns, arms out, catching Paul's leg suddenly without meaning to. The two men trip each other up, and Stephen gasps as they tumble in a set of tangled limbs to the floor, Stephen landing heavy on top of Paul. The class around them is erupting in laughter, and for a minute all Stephen can do is gasp for breath until he hears Paul is laughing, too. Several people are switching spaces behind them, but no one really seems to be sure whether its Paul or Stephen who's the new Kitty.
Seeming to realize this, Stephen quirks a brow down at Paul, smirking wildly before jumping up with some youthful energy and rushing into Paul's spot. Paul is still laughing, sitting up and brushing back his hair, watching Stephen with an amused smirk. Finally righting himself, he brushes off his clothes, casually strolling up towards Stephen.
"Kitty wants a corner," he says, and Stephen almost breaks into laughter, but manages a straight face, pointing towards the girl Paul had switched with earlier.
"Go ask my neighbor," he says, smirking, and Paul playfully shoves Stephen's shoulder back as he moves away.
"Yeah, yeah." But Paul glances up at Stephen, his eyes sparkling as he turns away in the direction Stephen had pointed.
As Stephen watches him go, he realizes he could never really turn Paul away -- if only the man would come to him like that in something other than a game.
