Crop circles in the carpet, sinking, feeling

Who: Maxine and Teddy
Where: The streets of Scarlet Oak
When: Night time

It appeared as though after that little awkward moment at the coffee shop (and the intentional flirting that occurred afterwards) Maxine and Teddy had actually gotten closer. At least it appeared so to the siren herself, given she couldn't remember a time when they had taken a ride at night without the rest of the team. Yes, they had been trying to break into the police station network following the faerie pictures debacle, the vampire murder and whatever had happened before then that had made them forget everything. But still. Closer.

Everything happened so much, so fast in Scarlet Oak. Murders, curses, spells, disappearances - it almost made Maxine's head spin. As long as she had lived, she had never seen such a thing. Omega seemed strapped for a place to start from, and so they worked separately, two and two (or three, in one case) trying to get everything under control. Maxine had gone along with Teddy for support, company and in case they found a window open that she could fly through - you never knew what buttons even an expert hacker might need pressed (the double-entendre in this very thought was not lost on her).

They had parked their van an inconspicuous distance away from the station and gone to work, Maxine riding shotgun as lookout and Teddy working his magic. Or, his psychicity.

Maxine looked behind her seat after another once-over around the van and on the mirrors. "You look frustrated dear, what is it?"

dreams to fulfill and ideas to discover, they’re just never where i am.

Who: Teddy and Raphael.
Where: Raphael’s auto shop.
When: Early afternoon.

Talk about drawing the short straw. If you made a list of all the things Teddy Beaufort did not want to do on any particular day this task would have come out right near the top every single time, no doubt about it. Even as he drove the vehicle with all its excess gear removed and the strange knocking noise creating a soundtrack to the journey he couldn’t stop thinking about how little he wanted to be doing this. It wasn’t a long trip to the shop but that was beside the point, it was the principle of the thing he objected to and all he could think of was the computers he had left running in his room and how much he would rather be there with them. Computers were so much easier to deal with.

Granted an engine was a kind of machine in and of itself, Teddy had managed to jump one in the past with a surprising amount of success but they weren’t circuits and wiring like a computer or a phone or some other electronic device, they were all about combustion and fuel. They didn’t speak to him the way technology did. Out here with only his cell phone in his pocket and his laptop in his bag he felt out of his element, stranded, cut off from his comfort zone.

Teddy hated it.

Pulling up in front of the shop he cut the engine which died with that same ticking knocking noise that had made them think it probably needed attention in the first place and huffed out a sigh, trying not to grumble to himself under his breath as he made his way towards the open doors to the place, not even needing to glance at his wristwatch to know what time it was. Instead he communicated silently with the phone tucked safely in his pocket, using its clock and his connection with it. A simple unconscious act that made the wearing of a watch moot but it was all about keeping up appearances.

“Hello?” he called when he got to one of the openings to the workshop area, wondering if maybe he shouldn’t go around to the office. Teddy leaned back and looked down the length of the building to try and see the door to one, thoroughly unaware to the fact that someone had appeared in answer of his call until he turned his gaze back into the workshop, at which point he immediately started physically. “Jeez--sorry.” Teddy cleared his throat. “Do you work here?” Probably a stupid question but sometimes stupid questions just had to be asked.

A songbird and a teddy bear walk into a coffee place...

Who: Maxine and Teddy
When: Morning, about 10am
Where: The motel they're staying in, then a nice coffee place for breakfast.

Maxine had woken up bored. It was the morning after the full moon and not a bird dared stir. It was always like this after the full moon, as far as Maxine remembered. Ash and Maya had been off doing their monster-like thing, and would require some rest this morning. As for the others, Logan was still out of commission for most fun things, Ice was off doing what it was that Ice did when he wasn't around, the Major deserved his sleep and that left dear Teddy, whom Maxine had not bothered in ages. She had dressed to the nines for the occasion, though she knew that would not ease the process any. He was going to be grumpy, and possibly under-slept. That wouldn't deter her, however. At around 10 in the morning Maxine was banging on Teddy's door.

"Teddy-bear! I am bored, let's have breakfast. I'm buying!" She called, not ceasing the knocking until he responded somehow. "I know you haven't been eating properly, you never do. Come on!"

the air can get so tense when directions make no sense.

Who: Teddy and Sugar.
Where: Hotel di sei Ali.
When: Early afternoon.

This was a bad idea. A really terrible, extremely bad idea, one that the rest of the team would very possibly kick his ass for if they knew he was here.

It wasn’t that the hotel had a nasty reputation, exactly, but there was a reputation there all the same, one that he’d thought, about an hour ago, was worthy of investigation, if only because he literally could not sit there and stare at the same empty searches anymore. They were still running, of course, the same parameters, reaching out a little more each time they performed a sweet, but the situation at the school was not going to be solved by one guy and a bunch of computers, it seemed. Still, if anything came up his phone would ping and alert him.

This hotel, though, an apparent safe haven for all things supernatural, was something he could look into now. Why exactly Teddy had taken it upon himself to do so solo was just now dawning on him as a question he couldn’t even begin to answer, one that might come back to bite him in the ass later. At least he’d decided to come in broad daylight. That was something, right? Right. That was something.

Maybe standing in the lobby with his phone in his hand and a where the hell do I go now look on his face in the form of a furrowed brow and an unmistakable frown wasn’t the best start to his one-man investigation. Was it glaringly obvious that Teddy usually left this sort of thing to the others? It probably was.

it's been a hard day's night and i been working like a dog.

Who: Teddy and Slevin (and Boo, NPC).
Where: Teddy’s room at the motel/hotel Omega are staying at.
When: Early evening, around the same time as this.

They were getting low on painkillers. That was all Teddy kept thinking as he reached for the bottle he’d set beside his workstation in his room. It had been a simple desk with complimentary stationary at one point before their arrival but he had made short work of converting it and now it looked like every techie hacker’s dream. Wiring tucked out of the way, monitors and harddrives and keyboards, everyone someone in his position could ever want or need. Right now though it wasn’t bringing him nearly as much simple joy as it usually did, not when he was taxing himself the way he had been since that stupid bubble had popped up around that stupid school. The bottle in his hand rattled distinctly and when he popped the lid off he saw that there were, in fact, only a small amount of pills left inside. Teddy sighed and checked his watch. It had been long enough since his last dose that he could take more.

He would have to get up from the desk in order to get a glass of water. No one else was allowed to have food or drink close to his gear and Teddy was anything but a hypocrite on that front, not when a lot of the equipment was worth more than the manager of the motel made in a year. Maybe that was an exaggeration but he was past the point of caring. Looking down at the pills in his palm he decided he didn’t need water. He hadn’t for the last dose either. Popping them in his mouth he swallowed them dry and then pushed his glasses up from his face with his fingers which he went on to use to rub his eyes with. They were aching enough that he’d had to dig the glasses out of the drawer where he’d tucked them and it was with a sigh that he had done so. All the electronics at the school had sent his powers into overdrive to the point where a migraine had settled in and wasn’t showing any signs of letting up any time soon, especially not since he was using them to try and come up with some kind of explanation. Fae, witches, elementals, demons, angels, there were so many branches of the supernatural to investigate, so many possible explanations, that Teddy had barely gotten any sleep since this whole thing had started in favour of continuing the search.

Time was getting away from him, which he only realised when he felt a distinctly familiar tug on the hem of his pants leg. When he looked down his glasses fell forward and he had to fumble to catch them before they tumbled right off his head altogether. A small leonine face looked up at him, the material of his pants still hooked on sharp little teeth. “Hey,” Teddy complained, reaching down with one hand to prize his clothing back from the cub. “How many times, huh? No chewing or tugging or gnawing of any kind.” He paused then, brow furrowed and eyes narrowed. “When did you get here? No, scratch that. How did you get here?” Last he’d checked the door had been well and truly sealed shut.

Who: Maya, Ash, Theodore, any other Omega members who decide to show up
When: Midnight-ish
Where: The big magic wall surrounding the high school

After receiving the text alert from Teddy, it didn't take Maya long to move out. She'd been in her room, cleaning some of her lesser-used bladed weapons, but moments later was throwing on a leather jacket over her t-shirt to hide the shoulder holster she always wore. Not only would the warmth be welcome (were constitution or no, she was originally from a tropical country and would always prefer the warmer weather to the cold she'd experienced most frequently since leaving), but it would also hide the guns as well as the knives strapped to her forearms. The place was surely crawling with police, so their poking around would have to be as circumspect as possible.

She was in her car - glad to have it back after Logan's side trip - when Teddy's second text came through, and she waited the requisite moment for him to join her. After that, it was a short drive to the school, and Maya parked the Mustang out of the way and out of sight of the gathered emergency services. She got out, waiting for Teddy to do the same before using the keyfob to lock it. She texted Ash, scenting the air as she looked around.

We're here. Where are you?

On the highway to hell

Who: OMEGA, bitches
When: Mid-morning
Where: About an hour outside Scarlet Oak to start
What: Arrival

Maya hadn't been pleased to give up her ride to Logan as he left to investigate the wolf situation, but it had made the most sense - the smallest vehicle went to the single person departing. He couldn't take the equipment van, not if he wanted to give Teddy an aneurysm, and it didn't make sense for one man to take the SUV and leave a car that sat four at best for the six of them. So for the long trip to Michigan, Maya was stuck driving the equipment van. But though she missed the power and handling of her usual vehicle, it couldn't be helped.

They'd been driving for most of the night, which Maya tended to prefer. Her night vision meant she didn't have any visibility problems, and there was less traffic to negotiate - which meant fewer people who might notice their passing. The last stop had been a rest station a few hours back, and a protein bar and cup of coffee had meant she was good to keep going for a while longer. As it happened, though, the GPS mounted in the car showed they were just over an hour from their final destination.

Picking up the two-way radio sitting on the dash, she hit the button to radio the SUV that Ash was driving, with Ice and Maxine for company. Teddy and Slevin had drawn the short straws to ride with her. "Exit for 94 coming up in two miles. That should take us straight into town."
