all I feel is black and white

Who: Linnea, Valterri, and Isolde
When: After naptime
Where: The world without sound, color, or Hiro

Awareness started to come back into Isolde's world, and she told herself it was all a dream. It had all been a very strange dream, and when she opened her eyes it would be the morning of the dance and she'd be looking at her ceiling with the stars and clouds painted all over it. It was hopeless. The scents were all wrong, and she was awake too quickly. Opening her eyes meant the confirmation of her fears. The world was still in black and white. She still could not make a sound.

She was in a bush. Isolde jerked into a sitting position rather quickly, not remembering falling asleep at all. She remembered the fear. She remembered hiding. She crouched down again, but something told her that the danger had passed. Frowning, she looked around. She saw Linnea. She saw Valterri. Where was Hiro?

Looking around, she could not see him anywhere. Taking a silent breath, Isolde reached out for Linnea's hand and tugged. Where had he gone?

hush little babies don't say a word

Who: Linnea, Isolde, Hiro, Valterri
Where: GOOD QUESTION AMIRITE
When: See above

The air was scented with dirt and grass and crisp autumn leaves. All good smells. Valterri must have left his bedroom window open last night. Only, no. That wasn't right. The light dancing behind the cells of his eyelids was all wrong. As he started to force his eyes open he felt strange. Disoriented. It took several long breaths of staring at the branches above him that he realized what was so wrong. It was like living inside of a black and white movie.

Things started to come back to him. He'd still been at the dance. He'd never admit to it, but he'd been honestly surprised at at least not getting on the court. He laughed it off and watched Rico and that SOAR chick dance, and then. . . and then . . . ? He remembered standing next to someone who was up one minute, and down the next. He'd turned to see what the hell had happened, and realized he was losing the fight with gravity himself. That had been it. He forced himself to sit up. He felt more or less okay, but stilll. . . slow. Like something was working its way out of his system. The lack of color was disorienting, but he still knew his mother's shape. Linnea Niemi crumpled on the ground was a familiar sight to the Niemi children, and even though his father was dead it still made Valterri's heart catch in his throat. He crawled over to his mother, for now willing to not deal with the blank and what insanity. He could deal with that after he confirmed his mother still had a pulse.

tattle tail's get it in the neck

Who: Isolde and Satu
When: After school
Where: Landers' household

Technically Satu wasn't supposed to do anything after school without telling her mother first. Technically she was also not supposed to steal Dagmar's earrings out of her jewelry box. Technically Satu didn't really care today as was evidenced by the fact that she was not only wearing Dagmar's earrings, but had mimicked her sister's style of dress. Oh, and she had made her way over to the Landers' house. Linnea believed that she was going to be spending time in the gym or batting cages, one or the other, not over at someone's house. Which really? It could've been worse. She could've been hanging out at Leif's house. Her brother probably would've let her come over just so that she could practice her blood magic and get that much closer to freaking their mother out. Satu's goal wasn't that, but she was pretty sure that was the main reason Leif was so okay with helping her out.

No, today Satu wanted to be around someone who was nice and pleasant. Isolde won that "honor". She just didn't get the pleasure of being warned first. For whatever reason, middle school got out a little earlier than high school and so Satu made it to the Landers' house before Isolde did. Or the slightly older girl had stayed behind for some reason, whatever. All that Satu knew was that she was there and no one else seemed to be so... she sat herself down on the porch and got out the little pocketknife that she Definitely wasn't supposed to have with her when she went to school. But eh, the dogs sniffed for drugs, not metal, and if anyone asked she'd tell them it was for self-defense because she was a supernatural and just plain scared of what those mean people did! Police didn't know that she had a penchant for being disturbing. Anyhow. She pricked the tip of her right finger with the knife, sucked on it to get the blood out, and focused. Maybe she'd greet Isolde and whoever was with her with a little spell, just to show off... wasn't like the air elemental was brave enough to run off and tell Linnea about it.

They'd figured out years ago what happened when someone tried to tattle on Satu.

Who: Satu and Isolde
Where: Mall in A2
When: After school

Despite the fact that Isolde frequently found Satu to be intimidating, she was still a friend. Beyond that, Isolde considered her to be something of an ideal shopping partner. Satu would never hesitate to call things as she saw them. Sometimes she may be a little too honest, and Isolde would feel the need to hide behind something, but sometimes she just needed that honesty. If Satu thought something was stupid, she'd probably tell Isolde and be done with it. She wouldn't smile and nod and then make fun of her behind her back, the way some (most) of Isolde's high school circle would have. She also had older siblings, and could probably relate to Isolde's sense of utter bafflement as to where to start when it came to shopping for Niamh. She kind of missed the days when she was a little kid and her parents handled that sort of thing. She was cute, but not cute enough to keep getting away with that.

Isolde pushed her sunglasses on top of her head as they walked inside, and looked around to try and figure out where to start. She couldn't help but feel like she owed Niamh something really nice this year. Niamh had actually been super cool to her yesterday! She almost felt like they had bonded over this terribly hilarious thing that had happened to Cole. "Everything Niamh likes is depressing," she said, wrinkling her nose up. "I don't even know where to start."

Vagina: the silent killer.

Who: Cole, Bunny, and later Lilith, Niamh, and Issy?
When: Early evening
Where: Cole's house

Bunny did appreciate what Cole did for her. Really, she did. But Bunny wasn't the sort of person who reacted well to secrets. She also wasn't used to people talking badly about her. Oh sure, she'd had her fair share of that when she was younger. A strange little girl with Tourette's Syndrome was a prime target on the playground. Somehow, Bunny had always possessed the confidence and ability necessary to eventually win people over to her side. Those she didn't win over had eventually realized that it wasn't fun picking on someone who only played it up and laughed along with you, and moved on. Bunny's entire high school career had been smooth sailing, popularity-wise. She got along with kids from different social circles, and those that didn't like her usually left her be. Sure, she still got weird looks, but she was the sort of person who liked the weird looks.

Now someone had done something that hadn't happened in years. Someone had been talking smack about her. This was almost a foreign concept. She just had to know what was said, and if it was the sort of thing she'd laugh at or get angry with. She had to know! And Cole was refusing to tell her! So she had threatened him with the thing he feared the most: female nudity.

She really thought that would have worked, but he still hadn't told her. So she had left her house with every intention on making good on her threat.

She arrived at Cole's house maybe an hour before sunset, and she found a tree with enough cover to shift behind. She took off her clothes and piled them neatly, and shifted effortlessly into a tiny, fluffy kitten. The she began the task of climbing the tree.

feel the quiet river rage

Who: Nixie and Isolde
When: Late afternoon
Where: The riverbank by Isolde's house

Isolde wasn't sure what all the complaining was about. Her first week of high school had been an absolute breeze. Sure, she may have possibly benefited in some ways... namely the fact that one of the girls in her circle had an older brother on the football team and had declared them all off-limits for freshman brutality. Another friend had a sophomore cousin that was a cheerleader, and she'd invited them all to eat at one of the popular tables. Instant win. The next four years ought to be a cakewalk.

The first week now officially over, Isolde had felt so accomplished with herself that it had brought on a streak of productivity. She'd come home, changed out of her nice school outfit and into a t-shirt, and had promptly cleaned her entire room. Then she decided she might as well get all her homework out of the way to free up the rest of the weekend. Despite the heat, she had decided to do this outside. Not far from their own backyard was a massive oak tree by the river that produced enough shade to be comfy enough for her, and Lambykins had a lot of pent up energy from being inside all day. So Isolde grabbed her schoolbag, a bottle of water, and she and Lambykins set out the backdoor.

Soon, and despite the shade, Isolde was beginning to feel rather like she was melting. She found she was concentrating less on her homework, and more on trying to summon a breeze. She'd only managed to do this for the first time recently, but practicing this seemed much more useful than anything else at the moment. She closed her eyes and leaned against the tree, concentrating with all she had. Lambykins trotted around the tree, and upon glimpsing her, bleated cheerfully at her. Stop when it starts to hurt.

Sleepover!

Who: Isolde and Satu (plus familiars)
Where: Landers residence
When: Evening

Again with the things that Satu didn't understand. She wasn't little and didn't demand every second of her mother's time so why was it that Linnea needed 'alone time'? And how come that always meant that Satu was left needing to find somewhere else to be? She knew how to stay in her room! 'Not really.' Had she asked her turtle? 'Well you don't. If you want something or get curious then you'll find her and poke at her until you get your answer.' Satu stuck her tongue out at Blastoise before hopping out of the car, remembering to thank Dagmar for the ride before she drug her feet up the walk. It wasn't that she didn't like staying at the Landers or anything, their house was pretty cool and they were a decent family, it was just that she didn't want to be away from her mom. She wanted to keep an eye on her. How else was she supposed to know what was going on with that thing inside of her? I need a baby book. Or whatever it is that explains how all of that works. If school was in session she'd ask one of her teachers to remind her what book they'd read in health class when the process had been explained but since she wasn't she'd need to remember on her own.

Reaching the door she glanced around for the doorbell and pressed the small button a few times before rocking back on her heels, thumbs hooked around the straps of her backpack while she waited. 'Are they all elementals too?' Satu shook her head. "Issy is... and Mrs. Landers is a water like mom, so is Niamh I think? But her brother isn't. Neither is her dad, I think they're psychics." Hopefully not telepaths because Satu hadn't ever liked having other people read her mind. Sure her father had been doing it since before she could remember and likely Leif too, but that didn't mean she had to like it. 'Like Leif?' Another shrug. "I can't remember. I have enough trouble remember what it is that Valterri can do and I live with him." Remembering meant caring and Satu? Didn't.

lol wut?

Who: Niamh and Isolde (and respective familiars, possibly)
When: Late morning
Where: Landers house

While the whole hotel thing had been kind of fun (having a whole suite to herself? Yes, please!), Isolde was still happy to be home. Back to her pretty purple room with the clouds on the walls and the stars on the ceiling and everything inside. Living out of a suitcase wasn't exactly her idea of a good time. Yes, it was good to be home. Even if the ground floor was kind of a mess. Happily, Isolde could just stay up in her room unless the parents requested her help.

She'd been in her room, catching up with things on the internet when she saw her brother's status update. Cole had a girlfriend? Why did that seem... kind of... weird...?

Huh. She blinked at the computer screen a moment longer before standing up and going out in search of her brother. Being unable to find him, and knowing Mom would be busy with clean-up, she headed to Niamh's room instead. Lambykins, the little ewe familiar she'd for some reason ended up with, followed merrily. This should be good, he thought at her.

Shush, she thought back. Even if he was kind of right. Putting on a smile, she knocked on her (biological-)sister's door.
