Ian didn't care much for Monday's. It wasn't because he disliked the weekend ending or because he didn't want to go back to school, it was because by the time Monday came he'd only just gotten used to it being the weekend and he'd usually forget to set his alarm so he'd be running late until about halfway through the day and it was just... Monday's weren't his friend. Not in high school, not in college and not now that he was teaching. This was why he'd insisted on needing to have later classes than he'd first been given slots for. So this way he only needed to have one class before lunch and he'd only missed it the first time. I need... what to eat... He was in the cafeteria so he needed to eat something, only what did he need? No, not need, what did he want? A loaded question that usually left him standing in the middle of the cafeteria while he tried to pick this or that station depending on what sounded really good. Did anything sound good? Ice cream did, but he wasn't supposed to just eat ice cream. It made him a little spazzy.

In the end he had a sandwich on his tray, a glass of water and a banana. He sat near the window, when it rained he always made sure to be as close as he could to the window, and stared at his food. If it hadn't been so unbearably hot outside then he'd have taken his food out there, nevermind that the sandwich would've gotten soggy and inedible. The banana wouldn't have. Bananas were such a weird fruit. When he'd been a kid he had refused to peel his banana just once and his mom had laughed at the face he made when he'd tried to eat the whole thing. Banana peels were not tasty and now, everytime that he had one, Ian had to study the banana for just a minute to remind himself of that so he never did it again. Except he did -- on accident. The banana would be sitting there, he'd reach out to grab it and before he could stop to think he'd be taking a bite and spitting it back out. Then bananas would be ruined for at least a week until he had another one. This was one of those times when a week had gone by and he'd decided to try it again. So long as he ate the banana before he forgot it was there and got drawn into his study of his notes for the next class he was fine. Ian picked the banana up and peeled the entire thing so that way nothing bad would happen. And the first bite tasted delicious.
