Peregrine Family Voicemail

Who: Jeff Peregrine to Tayne, Torshael, and Vanessa
When: At various times during the day
Where: The telephone

A voicemail is left on all three of the children's phones, pretty much the same for each, from their grandfather. Though it's left at a different time for each of them, it's definitely times when Jeff would expect each of them to be at work.

"Hey. Got something we need to talk about as a family. Your mother and I want us all to get together for dinner tomorrow night. Call if that's a problem."

It doesn't have a name attached, but Jeff Peregrine definitely is a familiar enough, and unique enough, vocie to be recognized. The fact that their grandfather is calling a family meeting usually means something Big.

bond over blood

Who: Rowan and Nate
When: Early evening
Where: Nevermore

It had proved to be an interesting day for Nate. Meeting Ezra had been a surprise, eating in a French restaurant an even bigger one, and now he was someone skilled to teach him beyond what his grandma thought he was ready for. All in exchange for some assistance... how could Nate refuse that? With his mind full of overcrowding thoughts, Nate drove to Nevermore and felt like the lack of cars meant that the shop might not be too terribly busy. He hated going into the place when it was full of curious, annoying people. Especially when it was full of giggling teenage girls who felt sure that they would open a book on vampires and find out that they did sparkle. Ugh. Still, he couldn't see people moving about inside from the window of his car, so he got out, locked his doors and headed into Nevermore, his hands in his pockets and his eyes avoiding any kind of contact with whoever else might be there.

Rowan had found a bit of money waiting for her in her bank account after all, so she decided to squeeze in a trip to Nevermore before her first shift at the Bucket. She'd been a regular at the store before she'd been sent away, and truthfully, she was hoping that maybe they would have hired someone knew. Someone she had never met before, someone who wouldn't report to Dorian that she was looking at the books on blood and black magic. Because she didn't think she had a snowball's chance in hell on avoiding some strong opinions on the matter if it went his way. Inside, she headed for her destination and did her best to look... inconspicuous. I'm not doing anything wrong, I'm not doing anything wrong... She just kept telling herself that as she sat in the aisle and flipped through a book, keeping the cover against her knees so no one could see. God, Row, grow up.

This should be interesting. )

Attempted Escape Thwarted

Who: Tayne and Krist
Where: The quieter edges of the packlands
When: Late afternoon

Even with earplugs, even despite how exhausted he felt, Tayne couldn't sleep. He tried, for a good hour, but he still kept starting awake every few minutes to some half-heard sound, some strong and unexpected scent, some fall of light that seemed brighter than usual. It was frustrating, and in the end he went out again, squinting even with sunglasses and a hat, and went for the edges of town.

The edges of the packlands, which he already lived on. He needed to get farther away from the streets with their cars and kids running around screaming and barking dogs. He wanted someplace with no powerlines or humming electricity. So, the far edges of the packlands seemed like a good, quiet place to maybe catch a nap out in the grass. Or a tree. If he was a cat now, maybe he wouldn't even roll over and fall out of said tree.

So he drove the big Chevy truck off the main road and onto a dirt one-- probably faster than he should have been going, but he was nearly half-asleep as it was.

A Favor for a Favor

Who: Nate and Ezra
When: Late morning
Where: Just outside Cosmic Comics, then a French restaurant

Nate had woken that morning a bit sore, but determined not to spend the morning lounging in bed. Not that his grandmother would let him anyway. The sound of cats outside his window was enough to get him moving, and after re-bandaging some of his fresher cuts on his arms, Nate dressed in a pair of dirty jeans and a wrinkled long sleeve shirt before he grabbed his keys, not bothering with breakfast since it was so close to lunch time anyway. He drove to the comic book store, and went inside, wandering for awhile as he tried to find something decent to buy. Some of his wounds had begun to scab over, making them itchy, and he scratched them absently through his shirt as his eyes skimmed over the new releases. It took longer than he would have liked, but he settled on 30 Days of Night. Nothing like a bloody vampire comic to read over a greasy burger and fries.

It has come to my attention recently that we have something in common. )

An Informative Non-Date

Who: Artus and Verity
When: 5:00pm
Where: Olive Garden in Ann Arbor

Verity arrived at The Olive Garden in Ann Arbor promptly at five. She generally ran a few minutes late every now and then, but she was always on time when it mattered to her. Since they were eating in a nice, semi-casual place, she wore a pair of jeans, sandals and a white peasant blouse with her hair pulled back from her face. She didn't want to look like she was dressing up since Verity really preferred to wear whatever was comfortable, but she felt like she looked okay. After making sure she had arrived before Artus, Verity was seated near a window in the back. There were only a couple other filled tables around, so their booth was somewhat private, which was nice since she figured Artus might be more willing to talk about his book without prying eyes or eavesdropping ears. Verity sat there and waited, trying not to chew nervously on her lip. She rarely ever got nervous. Verity liked to think she had some confidence, but after her talk with Loren, she was starting to probably read more into this whole thing than she ought to.

Maybe I'm realizing that I have a thing for professors )

Hell Hath No Fury

Who: Mikhail and Shanti
Where: Just west of the Packlands
When: 9pm-ish

Mikhail didn't believe the reports. There was no way there were no attacks on the full moon. In twenty years of hunting, there had never been a full moon without deaths. The monsters were not going to change because of the Light of May. Lies, all of it lies.

And this werewolf was going to pay for those lies. He had been tracking the monster for a few miles, careful to stay downwind and out of easy scenting range. The hunt itself was almost cathartic. The methodical stalking of the prey, the adrenaline rush of the attack, and the grim joy of ridding the world of one more monster.

He ducked behind a tree as the creature stopped and cast about for scent. Had he gotten too close? No, he was barely in firing range. There was no way the were had scented him. Still, it was on the defensive already, whatever had set it off.

Drawing on of his pistols, he cocked it slowly and almost silently. Time to go for the kill. He took careful aim for the beast's head. Breathe, aim, fire.

At the very last possible second, the creature was jolted out of position. His shot barely grazed the were. What the hell?

Kiss me, oh kiss me

Who: Freddie and Rhys
When: not sure, but it's late evening
Where: Text messages and then outside Rhys' house.

Retrieving her cell phone from her messenger bag, Freddie didn't bother to dry up the tears that wouldn't stop falling before beginning to tap furiously away at the keypad. The screen was blurry by the tears falling onto it, but that didn't stop Freddie or slow her down. She needed this text message to be delivered fast, so she could get to Rhys as fast as she could:

I hope you really mean what you said about being there for me all the time because shit just kinda got real and really shitty really fast, and I need you. I wouldn't bother you if I didn't really feel like shit. I'll come to you, where are you? Love, Freddie.

Without waiting for an answer Freddie stood to her feet, wiped the tears from her face and left her room, darting down the stairs faster than ever before. Even Mrs. Krause randomly appearing on the hallway that lead to the front door of the house didn't stop Freddie from walking right out and jumping into her brand new and conveniently convertible car, sliding the keys into the ignition furiously as she placed her cell phone on the dashboard. She decided to drive around while Rhys didn't text her back. Anything but that house. Anything at all.

If that can make it right )

Sleepover Fun

Who: Day and Chrissy
Where: Chrissy's house
When: Evening

After the movie with Tilly, Day still had time to swing by the house and get a change of clothes and something decent to sleep in-- all folded nearly before he put them into his backpack, so they wouldn't get as wrinkled as if he wasn't careful-- and then run to the video rental shop to grab a few random movies-- a couple old favorites, a couple random new releases he hadn't seen yet. Then, the night was going to be all Chrissy's. Hopefully-- hopefully, hopefully, hopefully-- there would be no more drama. Dealing with Tilly had been trying enough....

He pulled up at her house and hopped out with his backpack hanging from one hand and locking his car over his shoulder with the other. Climbing up to the porch, he knocked lightly.

Conferring with a Were

Who: Tayne and Jess
Where: Random sushi restaurant
When: Lunchtime

The restaurant was noisy. Everywhere was noisy. Sitting at a table by the window, waiting for Jessalyn to show up, Tayne was starting to wish he had those earplugs now-- even being deaf would be better than hearing every dish clink in the kitchen, the conversation from the couple across the room, the sound of their chewing, the angry conversation between the manager and the cook, the cars passing outside.... And the smells were worse. The smells were driving him crazy. Breathing through the mouth was starting to get to be a defense mechanism rather than merely a convenient means of lessening the load if information, but it wasn't habit yet.

Maybe Jess wouldn't mind getting the food to go and hoofing it to the park, or something.

Wouldn't it be cool if you were a cheetah? )

Making a date to talk about vampires

Who: Connie and Felicity
Where: Phoneland
When: Around 10PM

After the lovely conversation with Officer Nox-- it was probably Officer de Roux or something, but he liked Officer Nox better-- Connie decided Heme would wait for another evening, and he hurried home, tail wrapped around his waist to keep from flapping in the breeze, to consult Rebecca about potential vampire families, retreat to his guest room, and flop down on the floor with his cell phone and the number written on his hand. He had a social worker to call, before she decided she needed to sleep, or something, like so many living people did when it got late.

Hopefully she would be expecting him.... Or, you know, at least wouldn't be pissed he was calling after official hours.

When do you rest?? )

A Werewolf? Seriously?

Who: Madock and Gabe
When: Afternoon, around two pm
Where: Gabe's House

The whole way over to Gabe's house, Madock was wondering what he could possibly have to tell him. He thought of all the bad things first of course. He really wished he hadn't of, because by the time he got over to Gabe's, he was getting into thoughts of Claire being pregnant or something like that. He just hoped he was right in thinking that his twin would have told him something that huge. He knocked lightly on the door and waited for Gabe to answer.

Gabe was doing his best not to worry, feeling better now that he knew Madock knew at least one werewolf. Was dating one, in fact. This wasn't that big a deal in comparison, since it barely effected him. Well, not true, since they would be living together next year, and Gabe had a huge-ass cage to tote with him. "Hey," he smiled, opening the door. "Come on in. Want anything to drink?" he offered, since he himself was drinking a coke.

"Nah, I'm good." Madock said as he entered the house. "What's up?" he questioned, arching a brow at the boy. Please don't have my sister pregnant, I really don't want to fight with you. "Something wrong?"

You could have come up with something than that )

Books for the Bitten

Who: Tayne and Dorian
Where: Nevermore
When: Morning

Even before Tayne dropped Rowena off at her sister's, he knew where he was going. He was going to Nevermore, because if anyone had information that would help him out, it was Dorian. So as soon as he did drop her off, that's where he went. The sooner, the better, because he wanted to get as much done before his poor head told him he wasn't allowed to do anything else today besides find earplugs and a blindfold and sleep for a week.

Eagplugs were next on the list. After Dorian. He pulled up the truck as close as he could park to the place, and got out with a wince. At least with the engine shut off, it wasn't so goddamn noisy. He headed into the shop at a steady limp.

Dorian sat at the counter, flipping through the book on vampires he'd just recently sold Day. He really couldn't stand selling a book to someone that he hadn't read himself, so he intended to change that as soon as possible. The little bell on the door rang as Tayne came in, and he looked up, grinning. It wasn't often one of his friends visited him at the store on a week day. Most of them had their own jobs to attend to. "Hey, man, what's happening?" he asked, setting the book down. The limp caught his eye and he frowned slightly. "Get into a fight?"

Checking In with Muffins

Who: Gabe and Lily
Where: Gabe's place
When: Mid-morning

Lily had meant to check on Gabe a little earlier, she really had. But she'd been up late worrying as the moon rose, and a growing girl like her needed sleep. So she woke up late. But it didn't take her long to get ready - throw on some dance clothes (because she was headed to the studio later in the day), grab her bag and some food, and hightail it out the door. Jacking her dad's Jeep, she made the quick drive from her street to Gabe's. Hitting the locks as she slid out of the truck, she grabbed her bag, dashed up to the front door, and knocked, bouncing a little on her toes as she waited.

After Claire left, Gabe laid down on the couch for a bit, not feeling completely rested from the night before. He was sure that was normal, that being a werewolf all night was not a substitute for sleep, but it felt odd not remembering the whole experience. It was as if he'd been asleep without actually getting to rest. So a nap was definitely in order, from which he woke easily at the sound of someone at the door. "Got it," he yelled to his mom, then opened the door, smiling as he saw Lily there. "Morning."

dropping in

Who: Ransom and Charlotte
When: Mid-day
Where: Ransom's house

Charlotte had spent the day doing last-minute errands around town for the camping trip, and once she was done and had only the actual packing to do, she decided to head across town and into the pack-lands to see Ransom. He'd texted her this morning to let her know he was alright, and she'd wanted to let him sleep, but he was bound to be awake by now, right? Besides, she didn't drop in on him often enough. Not that they didn't see or talk to each other every day anyway. That wasn't the point. After parking in front of Ransom's house, she headed up to the door to knock.

"Raaaaaansoooooom," a young voice called from inside the house. There was a stomping of feet proceeded by two faces popping into view, one pushing in front of the other, as the door opened. "Ransom's in his room!" "You smell like him!" "Did you see another wolf?" "I smell something too!" The two boys spoke back and forth, halfway ignoring Charlotte, though intently waiting on her answers as they ushered her into the house. "Does he know you're coming?" "You should come over more." "Will you stay for dinner?" "We're having apple pie!" Cyan and Lynk were finally interrupted by their mother, who poked her head out of the kitchen, Mayze on her hip. "You two come finish peeling apples and leave her alone. Hi, Charlotte," she smiled as Mayze waved to her shyly. "Ransom's up in his room."

Who: Cassidy and Torque
When: Late morning
Where: Near the Circle R

It was a good day for riding - sunny and warm, but not too warm. Perfect for ridding oneself of stress, which was exactly what Cassidy was doing. Last night's full moon had promised to be fun, until the storm rolled in and left her shaking and terrified. Her family had kept close, crowding around and surrounding Cassidy with warm, familiar horse bodies - and it had helped, a little bit, but not quite enough.

She woke sore and jumpy with lingering tension, so after a quick shower and breakfast, she was dressed and in the barn saddling Blondie, a sweet perlino half-Andalusian gelding. They'd bought him recently in hopes of making him into a school horse - he was a wonderful jumper and had nearly perfect manners, save his tendency to spook a little around machinery. Because some of their trails ran alongside roads in Scarlet Oak, Cassidy had been working with him steadily to desensitize him. He'd been performing beautifully, so she decided to take him out to stretch his legs.

Waving goodbye to her mother, Cassidy set off at an easy trot, through the front gates and onto the trail they'd worn into the grass at the side of the road.
