| Current music: | When you love someone -- Bethany Dillan |
never felt like such a fool in front of anyone... I guess that's what you do when you love someone.
When: Saturday, September 15th, 2012; 7:53 p.m.
Who: Preston, Audrey
What: Movie night
Where: Audrey's flat
Butterflies were fluttering about in her stomach as she raced the clock to tidy up her flat. Preston was going to be arriving at any moment and Audrey felt compelled to make the place perfect. She wasn't sure why she was nervous, but ever since she'd invited him over for a movie night she couldn't get the nagging thought out of her head that she wanted to make the setting romantic. Romantic for what, she'd ask herself -- what she and Preston had was still very much in the 'strictly friends' zone. They might have been spending more time together and having an absolute ball(at least on her part), but that simply attested to the strength of the platonic bond they were forming.
Audrey tried convincing herself that the desire for romance didn't have anything to do with Preston; it was just because she was lonely. That, and she had decided that they should watch Casablanca -- one of her favorites -- which automatically set her heart towards romance. The fact that she was watching a classic romantic drama with a male friend by no means meant she had to be nervous or feel as if she'd been transported back to her primary school days.
It was only a movie. They'd sit on her sofa, munch on snacks, and watch the film. Simple as that. Nothing to be worried about. Casual and cool. Didn't need to feel awkward. Didn't need to think about the mere peck on the lips that had occurred a few weeks ago that, for some odd reason, she hadn't been able to stop thinking about -- because it was nothing more than his saying goodbye and being friendly. Yes. Friendly. Friends. They were friends. Key term, that.
But if all they were was friends, why was she freaking out? Audrey whimpered as she launched herself onto the couch, having set everything up the way she liked it(movie was primed and ready to go, snacks were on the coffee table, drinks were chilling in the frig, blanket was hanging over the sofa in case they got cold... was that it?!). Now all she had to do was wait and stew in her nerves.
What seemed like hours passed(see: five minutes) before she heard the knock on the door. She jolted out of her seat, dashing to the door before whirling around to take one last look at herself in the mirror, "Be right there!" She called over her shoulder, stopping in front of her full length mirror to sigh at her reflection. Audrey had tried to match her attire with the theme -- casual. Which in her world was probably one or two notches higher than the rest of the world's opinion, but the designer jeans and black blouse would have to do.
"Coming, coming, coming!" She called out again after having deemed her appearance as good as it was going to get and really, what did it matter? There was no call for impressions. Audrey finally flung the door open with a wide grin, easily concealing any sign of the butterflies dancing in her stomach, "Preston, hello!"
