Entry tags:character: camden warwick, character: dani brooks, player: bunny, player: lena

When: July 30th, 2010; 4pm
Who: Camden and Dani
Where: Camden's place
What: WHO KNOWS. We just miss them. :D
Rating: PG-13?

Dani stood on Camden's front steps with an overwhelming sense of deja vu flooding through her senses. It was only two or three months ago that she stood nervously outside his office, with a similar slip of paper in her hands, hoping and praying that he'd sign the form that would get her access into his infamous summer course.

Now the paper she held was one that would get her out of the class without losing the credit she'd accumulated, allowing her to continue the class in the fall under a different professor and earn a final grade. It wasn't what she really wanted to do -- he was by far the go-to professor when it came to any sort of classes dealing with language -- but it was necessary if they...

Well, she didn't really know. They hadn't exactly talked about all that, anyway. But this way, she figured that it was a good way to approach the subject. If something was happening, if he felt even remotely the same as her, then she'd need out of the class. She didn't want him getting in trouble, and she'd give up having him as an amazing instructor if he kept his job and she kept, well, him. Besides, if that was how things worked out? She'd have the most amazing private tutor imaginable.

And if he refused to sign, insisted that she remain in his class, then it would be clear that he didn't want to risk anything. Dani swallowed, not liking that thought.

I almost forgot his username, WTF

Classes were done for the day, which meant Camden was relaxing. His idea of relaxing was actually to sit here and reread Les Miserablès in the original French, of course. So much was lost in the translation and he found he much preferred this edition. He'd also read it more times than he could count, and his copy was worn enough to suggest he'd owned it for many years. It was a story he'd never tire of reading, however.

He grumbled to himself when he realized that someone was at his door. Having gotten into his reading, a distraction or interruption wasn't entirely welcome, though his attitude changed when he pulled the door open to see Dani standing there. She was definitely not an unwelcome sight.

"Dani, hello," he greeted her, ushering her inside. "What a pleasant surprise." Maybe they hadn't actually sorted things out before, but he was quite happy to see her.

Dani couldn't help but smile as she took in the setting quickly. No distracting noises from a television, no smells of cooking food wafting through the door, and a book was resting page down in plain sight. She'd caught him reading, which made her want to curl up somewhere near him with her favorite notebook, scribbling away in some sort of twisted form of domestic bliss.

"Hi," she returned, stepping across the threshold as he gestured for her to enter. "Hope I'm not interrupting," she added, biting her lip as she took an awkward step forward, then back, as if unsure of how to greet him.

She'd only seen him on campus since that night, where it was obvious that she shouldn't touch him or be overly friendly. Now, though? Was it okay to reach out and give him a quick peck on the cheek? Ugh, confusing. Which would hopefully be cleared up with this whole form-signing business.

"I just wanted to stop by to see if you'd sign this..." she trailed off, holding it out to him. It was pretty self-explanatory, at least.

"I don't mind the interruption," he assured her, letting a slight smile pull at his lips as he shook his head and closed the front door after her. It might not obviously show, but he was happy to see her.

His brow furrowed in brief concentration as he read over the paper she handed him. "You want to drop my class?" he looked at her, seeking confirmation, even though the form spoke for itself. He wasn't sure how to feel about that. Her being his student made a convenient excuse not to get too close, but if Camden was honest with himself, it was a bit late. He already held far too much affection for the young woman standing before him.

Still, not seeing her in his class every day, having to pass her off to another professor whose class would benefit from her contributions - Camden wasn't sure if he should be happy or disappointed that she wanted this.

Dani fell silent, letting him read the paper without an interruption. She stepped around him, heading back to the bookshelves that she never really got a chance to peruse. She wasn't even interested in them now (which was saying a lot), but she needed a distraction from the worry gnawing at her stomach.

His question grabbed her attention, and she turned to face him with a slight shrug and smile. "I thought... I mean, it's just that there's no solid rule against... you know, it's really moreso professor-student relationships that are frowned upon, so it's sort of a loophole, you know, it's--"

She frowned at her babble, then took a deep breath and looked down at the floor. "I don't want to drop your class, but if I need to... It's sort of a lesser-of-the-two-evils thing," she offered, looking back up at him with a softer smile.

If she had to choose between no longer having him as her professor and no longer having him as... whatever he could be? She'd take the former. Without hesitation.

It was his turn to fall silent as he let her explain. He felt conflicted. On the one hand, she was right. He didn't know if that was an argument for or against signing the paper for her. On the other hand, he definitely would miss her in class and he didn't like her having to make this kind of change because he'd stupidly allowed himself to fall for her.

"Are you sure this is what you want, Dani?" he asked her seriously. He'd sign the papers if it was, there was no question. Despite his own doubts, he knew he'd given in to her desires. He just didn't see why or how she wanted this, wanted him. He was a mess. He was nearly twice her age. It was like that stupid, stupid song had said. She had to be crazy to want someone like him.

Dani watched him after she explained, worried that she'd see hesitation on his face. Or maybe the beginnings of him telling her that he didn't want her to drop his class, that he didn't want anything to happen between them again.

His question sounded soft, like it was hard to really hear him, and she took a deep breath before attempting to answer. He'd already asked if she wanted to drop the class, so she didn't really think that's what he was asking, now. He was asking if she wanted this.

She bit her lip, then took a slow step forward. It took every ounce of courage in her, but she was closer to him now. "Don't you?" she asked, her heart pounding in her chest. Didn't he want this, too? She had to hope and pray that he did, or else she was making an epic fool of herself.

If he didn't... she didn't know what she'd say. She was hoping she wouldn't have to figure that out.

It would have been an easy way out to lie here, to pretend that he didn't want what she apparently did. Camden knew it would be a lie, though, and as much as he didn't understand why or how she wanted him, he did understand that the lie would hurt her. That was something he was unwilling to do, even if he thought it better for her in the long run.

"Yes," he whispered, his gaze dropping briefly, as if he was ashamed to admit to it. He should be, though, shouldn't he? He had feelings for a woman half his age. Why shouldn't he feel ashamed of that?

"Yes," he repeated, forcing himself to look at her again. His hand came up to her face, his thumb brushing over her cheek. "Yes, I do."

The air left Dani's lungs in a rush, and she closed her eyes with a weak smile coming to her lips; as though all her energy just slipped out of her now that she knew how he felt, knew what he wanted. He wanted this.

Swallowing, she leaned closer to him and wrapped her arms snugly around his waist. The embrace was almost familiar and comforting, but still had that thrill of newness and excitement.

"Way to freak me out," she mumbled, voice half-muffled by his chest as she buried her face against the warmth of his body. She'd been so worried that he was going to say no, that he'd tell her it was all a big mistake. She'd honestly had a bad dream or two dealing with him suddenly becoming a rude, leering asshole who was no longer sweet and sensitive now that he'd gotten what he wanted out of her.

Thank God that wasn't the case at all.
