Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:!incomplete, character: alan marston, character: becca martin, player: crystal, player: lena

Who: Alan Marston and Becca Martin
What: Making up? They're finally talking.
Where: School, by Becca's locker to start
When: Friday October 29, around 1pm
Rating: PG-13, I think.

No matter how Alan had tried, he couldn't get the image of Becca and Ant out of his head. It didn't hurt that someone had been helpful enough to send him a video, of course. Add that on top of finding that his night with Maggie hadn't been a dream and he was a wreck. He'd drowned it in alcohol and video games for most of the weekend, most of the week, even, but that wasn't enough. He had to talk to her.

He knew this was his own fault. He'd been so hurt over seeing her with Ollie and maybe he'd overreacted a little bit. It scared him, though, to think that someone he'd fallen so deeply for could do that. It scared him to think of how badly she could hurt him if he gave her another chance.

Alan missed her, though. He couldn't deny that. He knew she'd moved on with Ant, but he couldn't deal with not having her in his life anymore, which was why he found himself leaning casually against her locker after practice, waiting to her to come by to collect her things.

"Hey.." he greeted her softly when she finally approached. It probably wasn't the right thing to say to a girl you'd barely spoken to in a short eternity, but Alan didn't really know what else to open with.

Day 53.

Becca told herself that she wasn't keeping count, but the number floated in the back of her mind whether she wanted it to or not. It had been fifty-three days since Alan had spoken to her. She'd hoped that it would get easier as time passed, but she still missed him terribly.

Her head was down as she slowly made her way to her locker. Practice had been rough, but that wasn't anything new. A lot of the girls were angry with her. She supposed she couldn't blame them. She'd punched their captain, after all.

With her attention focused on the floor, she didn't notice the boy standing next to her locker. Her head snapped up when he spoke, though.

The mere sound of his voice brought a bright smile to her face, but she quickly schooled her expression. After fifty-three days, there was no point in getting her hopes up. She knew he was never going to forgive her. Besides, even if he could forgive her for kissing Ollie, he'd never forgive her for the things she'd done in the last week.

"Hey.." she answered.

Becca stopped a few feet away from him and crossed her arms over her chest. She probably should've said something else, but after everything that had happened, she didn't know what to say.

There was a big part of Alan that just wanted to pull her into his arms and never let her go, but he restrained himself. As far as he knew, it was too late for that. The video he'd been sent made it clear she was with someone else now. The best he could probably hope for was friendship. Assuming she even wanted that from him, anymore. After the way she'd yelled at him about Maggie, he wasn't so sure.

An awkward silence fell between them as if neither of them knew what to say. Alan hated it. He hated the way she moved away from him. He hated the way her arms were folded over her chest. He hated the way he still just wanted to kiss her and wish away everything that had happened in the last several weeks.

"Did you.. um.. did you want to maybe.. do something? Hang out or whatever?" he asked finally. He wasn't quite looking at her. Alan was normally a confident guy, but nothing about this situation was making him feel confident. After all, from his perspective it was obvious that Becca didn't feel the same way about him that he did about her. He just didn't want to have to see her expression as she made up some excuse about having other things to do.

Becca was oblivious to the fact that he'd received a video. Of course, she didn't even know there was a video. As far as she was concerned, only one video existed.. the one she'd received.

It went without saying, but she would've been horribly embarrassed if she'd known that he'd seen how she'd behaved with Ant. She hadn't been herself, after all.

Regardless of how it might seem, Becca and Ant weren't together. They had been spending a lot of time together, but they weren't together-together. At least, she didn't think they were. As far as she knew, they were just having some fun.

When an awkward silence between them, she reached up to push her hair behind her ear. One of her hands then moved to the gym bag that was draped over her shoulder, and she began to fidget with the zipper that held it closed. There had been a time where she would've gladly babbled to him about the day she'd had, but she was pretty sure he didn't care anymore. How else could he have stayed away for fifty-three days?

Her head snapped up when he finally spoke. Had he just... was this joke? Was she dreaming? It had been nearly three months since he'd willingly acknowledged her presence, and he wanted to hang out?

"Huh?" she questioned, obviously surprised. "You, um.. you want to, uh.. hang out?"

It wasn't the smartest thing she could've said, but once again, she didn't know what else to say.

It wasn't that Alan didn't care. It was quite the opposite, actually. Alan had stayed away, had been so deeply hurt by what she'd done with Ollie because of how much he cared about her. For the past several weeks, it had just hurt too much to think about being around her again.

The events of the past week had changed that, though. Seeing her with Ant, especially, had made him realize how desperately he didn't want to lose her.

He knew he was probably too late for anything more than friendship, but he couldn't stand the idea of not being in her life at all anymore. He missed her.

"Yeah.. I mean if you.. if you're not busy and you.. uh.. want to.." Alan wasn't usually this awkward, but it suddenly occurred to him that maybe she didn't want to spend time with him. Maybe he was too late. Maybe he'd already lost her.

Becca watched intently as he stumbled over his words. Under normal circumstances, he was impossibly confident. That definitely wasn't the case at the moment, though. His nervousness was quite obvious, but she couldn't fault him for that. After all, this was the first time they'd spoken in a while. She was just as nervous.

Once again, she reached up to push her hair behind her ear. When she found that it was already tucked away, she moved her hand to the strap on her shoulder and began to fidget with it.

"I, uh.. I'm not busy," she answered. "I mean, Ant and I kind of talked abo.. but we didn't exactly.. I'm not busy. If you want.. I'd lo.. I'd re.. we can, um.. hang out if you want."

She probably shouldn't have been so eager to spend time with him, but she'd missed him far too much to even think about playing hard to get.

Something twisted in Alan's gut when she mentioned Ant. He knew there wasn't anything he could do about it, but he could still see the images in that video and just the mention of his name was enough to conjure them up again. Whether he had a right to it or not, remembering the sight of them together made him feel sick.

"Are you, um, sure?" he asked her, looking down at the floor and shuffling his feet slightly. She'd agreed, she'd said she wasn't busy, but there was a kind of hesitation in her answer that made him wonder if she really wanted to hang out or if she was just agreeing to humor him.

If she was eager to spend time with him, it wasn't obvious in her current demeanor. If anything, her stammering made him wonder if she wanted to be talking to him at all. Wouldn't that be just great if after everything, she wanted nothing to do with him?

Had Becca known about the video, she wouldn't have been so quick to bring up the other boy. After all, she remembered quite clearly what it had felt like to watch Alan with Maggie. Unfortunately, she was oblivious to how he was affected by the mere mention of the other boy's name.

"Yes," she answered with an overly vigorous nod. "I'm sure. I don't have to.. I mean, I want to, you know.. hang out with you. I mi.. it's been a really long time since.. I just.. if you want to.. I'm sure."

Regardless of how it might seem, Becca was quite eager to spend time with him. She wasn't stammering because she didn't want to be talking to him. She was stammering because she'd spent the last fifty-three days wanting nothing else, and she was deeply afraid of messing it up.

"Where do you want to, you know… go?"

Alan hated how awkward this was. He knew it was largely his own fault, but he still hated it. He wished he knew how to make it better.

The impulse to kiss her struck him as she babbled and stammered at him. He told himself he couldn't act on that urge, though. She was with Ant now. They were just friends. He was lucky to have even that.

"Um, we could go to my house?" he suggested, still feeling entirely to awkward. "We could watch a movie or something if you want."

Like Alan, Becca hated that they were acting so... the way they were acting. After everything they had gone through during the past couple of months, she knew this awkwardness was inevitable. That didn't keep her from wishing that she could do something to make it better, though.

A part of her wished that she could throw herself into his arms and tell him how very much she'd missed him, but she was deathly afraid of doing something wrong. After all, she was lucky that he was willing to talk to her. As far as she was concerned, he could change his mind if she did something she wasn't supposed to.

"Sure," she agreed with an adamant nod. "That sounds good. We could.. yeah.. that sounds like a lot of fun. We should definitely do that."

As she babbled, she flashed him what she hoped was a reassuring smile. Regardless of how she was acting, she meant it when she said that she wanted to spend some time with him. Hopefully, her expression would make that clear.

Once they got to agreeing to hang out at his house, it didn't take long for Alan and Becca to finish gathering their things and make their way out to his car. It felt weird not to hold her hand or anything, so Alan focused on the road ahead of him while he drove. That was easier than trying to make awkward small talk and the drive to his house wasn't long, anyway.

There wasn't much of anyone about, as usual, and Alan turned to Becca once he'd unlocked the door and led her inside.

"Do you want anything to eat? Drink?" he asked. He could grab them some snacks or some sodas or whatever and then maybe they could find a movie to watch. Or something.

Becca had readily agreed to hang out with Alan, but she found herself fidgeting nervously in the passenger seat when he drove them the short distance to his house. Like him, she thought it was weird that they weren't holding hands or touching in any way, but she tried to remind herself that they weren't together... that they would never be together again. Rather than trying to force conversation, she texted Ant to tell him that she wouldn't be meeting up with him. He responded, of course, but she'd already put her phone on silent and didn't realize it.

She looked around once he'd lead her into the house. Everything was exactly the way she remembered it... which made since as it hadn't been very long since she'd been there.

"Oh, um... drink? I mean, I have cookies, but something to drink would be nice... a coke, maybe?"

A few months ago, she would've readily taken advantage of the fact that they were alone, but she now found herself wondering what they were going to do. Talking didn't come as easily as it once had, and it wasn't like they could make out. He'd mentioned watching a movie, though. That was probably their best bet.

"So, uh... what movie do you want to watch?"

Alan nodded his head and pulled her into the kitchen while he grabbed a couple of cokes. "I want popcorn," he announced before grabbing a bag of microwavable popcorn from the pantry. They had a regular popper, but he was lazy and a little impatient, so this would work.

A few minutes later, he'd grabbed a random movie off the shelf and they were settled on the couch to watch. What the movie was didn't seem to matter too much to Alan, because it was really just an excuse to sit with her.

"So, um, how-how have you been?" he asked her, feeling completely lame for the question.

"Popcorn sounds good," she agreed with a smile and a nod.

Becca lifted herself onto the countertop as they waited for the corn to pop. Her feet dangled a couple of feet above the floor. She didn't know what to say, so she didn't say anything as she watched him move around the kitchen and gather the things they needed.

A little while later, the were seated at opposite ends of the sofa. Her hands were in her lap, and her eyes were trained on the television... except for when she would steal the occasional glance in his direction.

It sounded completely insane, but she was having trouble believing that they were sitting together... that he was talking to her. She'd spent the last couple of months wishing that he would forgive her, and she couldn't believe that he finally had. This had to be some sort of dream.

"Oh, um... alright, I guess?" She smiled. "How have you, you know.. been?"

A part of her wanted to tell him that she'd been horrible, that she'd been missing him like crazy. She didn't want to mess this up, though. If he was willing to talk to her, she didn't want to say something that might change his mind.

"Oh, um, good, I guess," Alan lied. He didn't think he could really tell her he'd been miserable, that he'd missed her. It was partly his own fault, right?

He turned his attention to the movie in front of them or he pretended to, anyway. Really, he couldn't stop thinking about the girl sitting next to him. There was too much space between them and a part of him had to fight the urge to reach over and hold her hand.

Some time later, he'd shifted closer and his hand was resting lightly on her leg. It wasn't exactly a conscious move, but he found himself hoping she wouldn't push his hand away.

Alan might not have been aware of shifting closer and resting his hand on her leg, but Becca could have told you exactly when he'd done it. After all, she hadn't taken a deep breath since he'd touched her, and she was beginning to feel a little oxygen deprived.

Her teeth clamped roughly around her bottom lip, and she forced herself to stare straight ahead. Occasionally, though, she found herself glancing down at the hand that was resting against her bare skin. It was so warm... calloused from years of playing sports... perfectly Alan in every way.

Afraid of disturbing whatever had made him touch her, she took a slow breath in through her nose and released it just as slowly before she had the chance to fill her lungs completely. It probably didn't make a lot of sense, but after missing him for months, she was deathly afraid of doing something that would cause him to ignore her again.

Despite the effort she was putting into not moving or making any sound, her skin covered in goose bumps and a shiver ran down her spine. She'd almost forgotten how strongly she reacted to his slightest touch.

As ridiculous as it sounded, Alan was just as self conscious as Becca was. The fight about what he'd done with Maggie had been... Really bad. He'd been afraid she was never going to want to talk to him again, let alone let him touch her.

He knew he shouldn't. She was with Ant now or at least Alan thought she was. At the moment, though, he didn't care about what he shouldn't be doing. She hadn't pushed his hand away and with that little encouragement - or lack of being discouraged - be found the nerve to take her hand in his.

Alan's fingers laced through hers a little tentatively and he allowed his thumb to rub lightly against her skin.

"Is this okay?" he asked her a moment later, turning his head to look at her.

What he'd done with Maggie.. Becca couldn't begin to describe how hurt she'd been. When it came right down to it, though, what he'd done was forgivable. After all, she'd hurt him just as badly, and she couldn't expect him to forgive her if she wasn't willing to forgive him.

She glanced down briefly when his hand shifted then gripped hers. Still afraid to move, she didn't rush to tighten her hand around his. She did, however, let her fingers go limp so that he had absolutely no trouble lacing his through hers.

It might have been absurd, but her heart began to pound when his thumb caressed over her skin.

"Yes!" she answered far too quickly when he questioned her. A deep blush instantly flooded her features, and she nodded as she added a little more calmly, "It's okay.. more than okay.. it's great.." Hoping to support her words, she flashed him an embarrassed smile and gave his hand a gentle squeeze.

A brilliant smile lit up Alan's features when she assured him that it was "more than okay." he grinned genuinely at her for the first time in a long while and his fingers tightened around hers.

"Good," he murmured, tearing his gaze from hers to glance briefly back at the movie. A moment later, though, he was turning back to Becca. There was a thoughful expression on his face as he just studied her for a minute or two.

"What about Ant?" he asked her quietly. As much as he would like to say he didn't care, he needed to know. If she was really with Ant - and what he'd seen left little room to doubt that - he shouldn't be holding her hand. Especially when he wanted to do so much more.

A very bright smile moved over his features when he grinned at her. It had been a long time since he'd looked at her like that, and as cliché as it sounded, she felt as though the sun was suddenly shining on her.

"Good," she echoed.

The expression on her face didn't fade as they turned back to the television. The movie was easily the furthest thing from her mind, but her eyes were locked in that direction.

Alan... her Alan... was holding her hand... and smiling at her... and looking at her as though she'd hung the moon... and it had been a very long time since she'd been this happy.

Her brow furrowed slightly when he questioned her. "What about Ant?" she murmured as she shifted to face him a little more fully.

Had Becca known that he'd seen a video of them together, she might have understood what he was asking. As far as she was concerned, though, there was no reason for him to think that they were actually together.

Alan's own brow furrowed with confusion. He thought it should be perfectly obvious why he was asking about Ant. He'd seen them together around school and after seeing that video - well even after everything he didn't think Becca was really the type to sneak around - he assumed they were together.

"You're.. I mean isn't he.." Alan faltered, not sure how he wanted to phrase his question. "I saw.. I mean I thought you were.. with him, you know?" He felt unbelievably awkward once more, but he was just genuinely confused. He wanted to be holding her hand. He wanted to be doing so much more. He thought it should be obvious why he was questioning her about the other boy, though.

With the amount of time Becca and Ant were spending together, she should have realized that some people would probably think that they were a couple. At the moment, though, she wasn't thinking very clearly.

Her brow remained furrowed as he grasped for the proper words. She tightened her hand reassuringly around his, but she wasn't sure if she was trying to reassure him or herself. After all, he looked upset or awkward or something. She hoped that he wouldn't suddenly decide that not talking to her was easier than talking to her.

When she finally understood what he was trying to ask, a large smile moved across her features. "No," she answered with a slight shake of her head. "I'm not with Ant. We've been hanging out a lot, but we're just friends."

If that was all he was worried about, Becca was more than happy to reassure him... especially if it meant that he would look at her the way he'd been looking at her a moment ago.

"But you slept with him." It was more of a statement than a question and possibly was a little blunter than he should have asked, but the sting of seeing that video still hurt and he was still confused.

Was he wrong about Becca? Was she the kind of girl to do that with a guy she was just friends with? Alan hadn't thought that she was, but something didn't add up if that was the case.

He wasn't trying to be judgmental or come off like an ass, he just didn't understand.. he needed an explanation that made sense.

Becca was still smiling when he made his next statement. Of course, the expression faded quickly. "I... uh..." A deep blush flood her features, and she shook her head slowly. She didn't know what she was protesting, she just knew that she didn't want him to be saying what he'd just said.

"You... how do you... did he tell you?" she finally asked.

Though her actions during the last few weeks said the exact opposite, she wasn't the type of girl that did that with someone she was only friends with. Everything had just gotten so screwed up since he'd stopped talking to her. She'd been so hurt and miserable, she had grasped at anything that would make her feel better.

"I... it wasn't... I've just been really..." She bit her bottom lip roughly and loosened her hand so that he could pull away if he wanted to. "How do you know that?" she questioned as she hung her head in shame.

"I saw it," he admitted softly. How he felt about it was probably plain on his face. Alan wasn't typically a very emotional guy and he didn't normally wear his heart on his sleeve, but Becca had always seemed to be the exception to that.

"Someone sent me a video," he added, sure her next question would be how he had seen. It was obvious that she was.. embarrassed or something that he knew and a part of him felt like he should reassure her.

"It's.. it's okay. I mean we weren't.. I have no say in who you fool around with. If you want Ant, that's fine. He's a good guy." It wasn't fine, but it would have to be. Alan didn't have a right to be angry that she'd slept with someone else. Especially not after what he's done with Maggie.

"Yo.. you saw it?" she repeated.

A look of complete and utter horror moved over her features when he told her that someone had sent him a video. A million images instantly rushed through her head, and she found herself hoping he hadn't seen her with Mark or Clay or Chelle or... what had she been thinking? During the past two weeks, she'd turned into a whore. He would never forgive her if he knew all the things she'd done. If she'd known there was a chance of him forgiving her, she never would've done those things.

"A.. a vi.. a video?" she stammered as silent tears slipped onto her cheeks.

Embarrassed didn't begin to describe how she felt in this moment. She was horrified. He was finally talking to her, and he was going to...

"I don't want Ant!" she exclaimed, her head snapping up. "I want you. I've spent the last fifty-three days wanting you. I was just so... I saw you with Maggie, and it hurt so much... I just wanted to not hurt... to not feel as though..." She paused to shake her head. "Ant is a great guy, and I would've gone insane without him, but he's not the one I want," she told him quietly as she hung her head again.

He'd only mentioned Ant. That probably meant that he didn't know about any of the others. She hoped that was what it meant, at least.

Alan wasn't aware of everything she'd done in the past several weeks, but it didn't matter. He had no right to care who she'd been with while they'd been apart, right? He'd been hurt watching her with Ant just as he'd been hurt to catch her with Ollie, but that didn't mean he had the right to be a jerk about it.

He was telling himself all this as she ranted/babbled at him. To be honest, he didn't hear much past I want you. Once he processed that phrase, he stopped thinking. A heart beat later his free hand was on her cheek and he was pressing his lips to hers, urging her into a deep kiss.

Alan had desperately wanted to kiss her since they'd sat down. To be honest, he'd wanted to kiss her before that. Now that she was saying he was the one she wanted, he couldn't resist the impulse any longer.

Becca knew that Alan didn't have the right to care about who she'd been with during the last couple of weeks, but she also knew that sort of thing didn't matter when it came to how a person felt. After all, she hadn't had the right to be upset over what he'd done with Maggie, but that hadn't kept her from screaming at him.

When he didn't say anything, she opened her mouth with the intention of continuing to explain her actions. Before she could speak a single word, though, his hand was on her cheek.

Her heart skipped several beats when his lips pressed to hers, but after a moment of hesitation, she returned the kiss he was urging her into.

"Mmmm..." she hummed as her hand moved to cover the one that was still pressed to her face.

As ridiculous as it might sound, there was a part of Alan that thought she might push him away once he kissed her. He was relieved to find that was not the case.

He realeased her hand to snake his a around her waist so he could pull her closer. Moments later, he had pulled her into his lap as he deepened the kiss. His hands pushed into her hair after another minute or two had passed and he hummed softly against her lips.

"I missed you so much," he murmured without bothering to pull his lips from hers.

Becca didn't resist when he wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her closer. In fact, she was eager to be near him and eagerly shifted so that she was in his lap.

Her arms wrapped tightly around his shoulders as their mouths worked together, and she tangled a set of her fingers in the hair at the nape of his neck. He felt unbelievably good, and she hummed her approval.

Maybe she should've pushed him away, but after months of missing him, that was easily the last thing she wanted to do.

"I missed you," she echoed softly. "I love you. I'm so sorry."

She spoke without thinking of the consequences... actually, she spoke without thinking at all. Her words were true, though. She had missed him... she was sorry for hurting him... and she hadn't realized it until she'd lost him, but she loved him.

The fact that Becca didn't resist was really all the encouragement Alan needed. He deepened the kiss almost instantly as he pulled her still closer. He tugged at her until their chests were pressed flush together and it seemed like she still wasn't close enough. He wanted her. He needed her. He couldn't understand how he'd lived without this, without her during the past several weeks.

To say Alan was being led by his hormones at the moment was probably an understatement. Her words, however, pulled him briefly back to reality. It took a moment for him to process what she'd just said and he pulled back slightly. His gaze locked with hers and he just studied her for several seconds before he spoke. Alan's hand was gentle on her cheek when he finally returned her words.

"I love you, too, Becca," he murmured before leaning in again and pressing his lips to hers once more. This time the kiss was more gentle than frantic, while still somehow conveying just how much he wanted her.

Lost in the embrace, Becca hadn't realized that she was speaking until he tore his lips from hers and stared at her. A silent apology began to play repetitively in her head, but her mouth wouldn't form the words.

"I..." she murmured softly but lost the ability to speak before she made it any farther.

How had she ruined this? Everything had been fine... better than fine. He'd been kissing her, and she'd... why had she said that? It was true, but... he'd just started talking to her. How could she say something like that when he'd just started talking to her again? It felt as though her heart had stopped beating. She couldn't breathe. She couldn't speak. The panicked part of her wanted to beg him to forgive her... to pretend that she hadn't said what she'd said. Unfortunately, she was incapable of moving or speaking.

When he finally returned her words, she gasped audibly. Her heart pounded hard several beats as the tightness in her chest subsided, and her eyes glossed over. She wrapped her arms tightly around his shoulders as his lips returned to hers, and she eagerly returned the gentle, wanting kiss he urged her into.

He loved her. He'd said that he loved her. She couldn't believe it. After months of misery, he loved her.

Alan definitely hadn't meant to freak her out. It just took him a moment to process what she had said. He didn't consider it to be a bad thing at all, but he was a bit surprised to hear her say those words.

His hand lingered on her cheek as his lips moved tenderly over hers. A moment later, he deepened the kiss and his arms tightened around her a little more as her worked to pull her closer once more.

The past several weeks were all but forgotten as he lingered in the embrace. Something about being here with her just felt so completely right and the movie playing on his television was the furthest thing from his mind as he worked to keep his lips pressed to hers for as long as possible.
