| Becca had promised that she would give Alan the time and space he needed to get over what had happened, and until now, she had kept that promise. The text message she'd received during class had pushed her over the edge, though. Rather than letting Alan continue to ignore her existence, she quickly closed the distance between them. "I... I get it, alright?" she sputtered. "You... you're never going to forgive me. You're never going to want... message received, alright? I get it. You can stop punishing me, now. I won't wait... I'll never bother you again. It's over. I'm finished. Just don't... you don't have to... I swear I'll leave you alone.” She was so hurt... so upset... that she couldn't think clearly. Maggie? He was with Maggie? After the way she'd treated him... after they way she'd turned everyone against him. He could forgive Maggie, but he couldn't... “Just stop, alright? I get it. You don’t have to do this anymore.” “What?” For a long moment, all Alan could do was stand there and stare at his ex-girlfriend. A part of him had hoped that the night with Maggie had just been some freaky nightmare, but even if it had happened, as far as he knew there was no way anyone else could know about it. “Stop.. doing what? I’m not doing anything. I don’t know what... what’s going on, Becca?” Alan had been avoiding Becca, but that was because he couldn’t take seeing her after catching her with Ollie. He missed her, though, and he certainly didn’t want her upset like this. He couldn’t imagine what he’d done to make her unload on him like this, a fact that was probably evident by the extremely confused expression on his face. "Stop," she repeated when he questioned her. "I get it. You can never forgive me for… and you shouldn't… I fucked up. You don't have to keep..." Becca had hoped to get through this without crying. So far, though, she wasn't succeeding. A few tears fell onto her cheeks as she spoke, but she quickly wiped them away. On some level, she felt like she didn't deserve to cry. After all, she'd done basically the same thing to him. Something of a look moved over her features when he insisted that he had no idea what she was talking about. A few months ago, she would've believed him. Right now, though, she wasn't sure what she believed. "This, Alan," she answered as she ripped her cellphone from her pocket and held it out for him to see. "This is what's going on." She couldn't look at the screen once the video had begun to play. Seeing it once was more than enough. She couldn't watch it a second time. "Message received," she told him. "I get it. You can't forgive me. I won't keep waiting for you. I'm… I'm done, alright. You've punished me. You don't have to keep … I won't bother you ever again." “Oh, God,” Alan murmured as the video began to play. “Oh, Go- that wasn’t a dream? I really... Fuck, I’m going to be sick...” For a moment, he was distracted by the image in front of him. How fucking drunk had he been? Maggie? The only emotion he still carried for her was hatred. There was no way he’d touch her in his right mind. He didn’t think there was even enough alcohol in the world to make him... He wasn’t exaggerating. Watching that video was definitely triggering his upchuck reflex. At some point, he was going to wonder where the video had come from. At some point, he was going to want to beat the fuck out of Maggie, because he’d be sure she was behind this. Right now, though, he was still in shock. “I wasn’t... I’m not.. I’m not trying to punish you, Becca,” he told her once he could tear his eyes away from her phone. This wasn’t what he wanted. Not Maggie, not the tears on Becca’s cheeks, none of it. “I.. I’m sorry. I don’t know what... I’m really sorry.” Becca focused her attention elsewhere as he watched the video. She had only seen it one time, but that was more than enough. Just knowing that the video was playing was enough to make her stomach churn. "I… I get it, alright?" she breathed as she pushed her phone back into her pocket. "I've tried to be patient. I've waited for you to forgive me… for you to miss me the way I miss you. I won't… I won't wait anymore." The image was burned into her memory. Alan and Maggie… Maggie and Alan… the way they'd moved together… the way he'd touched her. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't think about anything else. She couldn't even focus on what he was saying. "I… I'm sorry. I'm sorry for… for hurting you… for doing what I did… for everything. You don't have to… I won't bother you again. I swear." Before he could stop her, she turned and made her way out of the building. More tears had fallen onto her cheeks, but she didn't try to wipe them away. She needed to get away from here… away from everything… Once she was in the parking lot, she pulled her phone back out of her pocket and called the first person that came to mind. "Where are you?" she questioned when she heard a voice on the other end of the line. "I'm coming over," she informed the boy a heartbeat later. Right now, she was in desperate need of a distraction, and she knew Ant could provide her with one. Alan opened his mouth to speak, but he couldn’t get a word in around Becca’s hysterics and by the time she’d paused enough for him to say anything, she was turning and walking away from him. He thought to chase after her, but he hesitated. It was obvious that she wasn’t going to listen to anything he had to say right now. With a sigh, he turned back to his locker, grabbed his books and made his way toward the library. He’d been neglecting his homework and there was a book he needed to pick up before he could go home. With any luck, he could talk to Becca tomorrow, after she’d calmed down a little bit. |
