Hi. ☺ I'm a new member of this comm and really, really glad I found it. I'm having some issues getting back into college now, but I do plan to eventually get my MLIS. I currently volunteer for my local library and was told that this can be great on a future resume when it comes to being a Professional, but I was curious as to how effective it really is. So has anyone ever volunteered before or while they were getting a degree? How did it help your job search? Thanks.

The library connects us with the insight and knowledge, painfully extracted from Nature, of the greatest minds that ever were, with the best teachers, drawn from the entire planet and from all our history, to instruct us without tiring, and to inspire us to make our own contribution to the collective knowledge of the human species. I think the health of our civilization, the depth of our awareness about the underpinnings of our culture and our concern for the future can all be tested by how well we support our libraries.

As of about a week ago, I've been accepted into MLS program at the State University of New York at Buffalo. I start in the fall (going to finish the prigram in a year) and I'm so excited!!

I've worked at a local library for about 5 years now. I took small break after getting my BA to save up some money and to mull on whether or not I'd go for my Masters.

Anyway!

Classes I'll be taking:

Introduction to Library Studies

Introduction to Information Technology

Reference Resources & Services

Records Management

User Education

Hello, I'm Coelacanth and I've just graduated from a MLIS program. Now I just have to find a job! I just thought I'd join up here to meet some fellow librarians, library students and friends to librarians.

Hi, I'm Ashley, and I'm seriously considering going to library school (UIUC). Been working as a shelver for 6 months or so and I love it, and I think I might want to stick around. Anyone got any advice?

I had a birthday last week, but I didn't think to post about my birthday gift until today. My friend and I are avid fans of a TV show that went off the air about two years ago called Queer as Folk. In one of the early episodes, there's a sign in the bathroom of a club that reads, "Don't have sex in the bathrooms. That's what the couches are for." Now, we've always found it hilarious, and it has become a famous (infamous? ^_~) quote of ours. She made a t-shirt for my birthday that said, "Don't do it on the couches. That's what the stacks are for." Lol, I thought I'd share.

Why did the librarian slip?

They were in the non-friction section.

Corny I know, but it was a long day, I was amused, and the child was adorable, lol!

I am Laura, your community overlord. I am currently studying for a M.S. in Library and Information Science through the LEEP option at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. (On-campus weekend is less than a month away!) I've been trying to find full-time paraprofessional work to no avail. Still trying, though!

At the moment, I am cursing my archives prof for assigning about ten million things at the same time. On the other hand, I love my reference class. Love, love, LOVE!

Welcome one and all!
