Who: Rayne and Lucas
What: Comedy marathon!
Where: His cabin
When: Tuesday night
Status: Open to [info]lucas_anders

Rayne could definitely use a little break. Even though it had been only a few weeks, she'd gotten used to not having a roommate. But suddenly, a younger, spunky Gracie showed up at her door, ready to move in. Rayne wasn't going to not help her. They couldn't fit much in those little cabins, but it was still enough to move. But Gracie was proving to be a really spunky girl, so Rayne could tell she'd get along with her well in the short time that she'd spent with her.

But nevertheless, a break from all that sounded nice. And hanging out with Lucas sounded even better. She grabbed a few of her own DVDs in case those would be something they might want to watch on top of what he had in his own collection, Bill Cosby, Eddie Izzard, and Margaret Cho being the ones she chose to bring. She had some CDs as well, but didn't bring those. Watching them was more amusing, in her opinion.

She fixed her hair from the mess that she thought it was so she'd look presentable, pulling part of it behind her head. Once she was satisfied with that, she made her way out of the room, giving Gracie a small wave before closing the door behind her. She made her way down to Lucas's cabin, and softly knocked on the door. She gave a small sigh to calm herself as she waited. As comfortable as she was with him now, she still got a tad nervous, though it hardly showed at all.

Lucas hated this. How incredibly uncomfortable he was when it came to flirting with women, or how he had absolutely no idea what he was doing. He hadn't had to flirt since he was seventeen years old, and had met Megan. What the hell was he doing, trying to pick it back up now, when he was thirty-four years old? Any skill he had in the subject had to have gone out the window a long time ago. But he liked Rayne, he liked hanging out with and spending time with her. She made him smile, and she made him laugh. She made him forget about his past for a little while. Lucas could never forget what had happened to Megan, but he liked being able to push it out of his mind for a few hours. And spending time with Rayne gave him that opportunity.

In a way, he felt a little bit guilty for the strange feelings he'd been getting around Rayne lately. The way he'd get nervous, or how he'd actually care about what he was wearing and make an effort to not look like crap ... those things made him feel a little guilty, but he knew that he wasn't doing anything wrong. He was moving on with his life, and that was a good thing. It was something Megan would have wanted him to do, and he knew that.

After going through his comedy dvd selection, Lucas had picked out dvds from Mike Birbiglia, Brad Trackman, Geoff Tate, and Lewis Black. He was looking at them to figure out which ones he wanted to watch more, though he'd totally let Rayne choose what to watch, when he heard a knock on his door. Standing up, he wiped off the thighs of his jeans as he headed towards the door. Taking a deep breath and closing his eyes for a moment before he opened the door, Lucas hesitated a moment, and then smiled and opened his eyes, pulling the door open. He saw Rayne standing on the other side, and gave her one of his smiles. "Hey, come on in," he said, moving aside so she could come into the room.

"Hey." She said brightly and made her way in, walking past him as he closed the door behind her. She walked over to his bed, but didn't sit down. She turned to face him, the back of her knees against the bed. "So, popcorn and Dr. Pepper, I believe I've been promised." She was teasing, of course, because she usually wasn't that demanding what so ever. Bold, yes. Demanding... Not so much.

With that, she perched herself on the bed, putting her hands in front of her to push her dress down in the front so she could still dangle her feet off the bed, a little reminiscent of a child in a chair that's too high for them. "I brought over some DVDs of my own, but we don't have to watch those. I just brought them so we have more choices."

After Rayne walked into the room, Lucas closed the door and turned to face her. He rose a brow as she brought up the popcorn and Dr. Pepper, and he smirked, crossing his arms across his chest. “Yes, I do believe you were promised those things,” he nodded. He moved over to the cabinets where he kept his junk food and pulled a bag of popcorn out, the extra buttery kind, and put it into the microwave, pressing the buttons and nodding once it started rotating inside the machine.

Turning back to Rayne, he pointed at her. “You’re a lucky woman, I just actually got some more Dr. Pepper today. I was out for like a week and a half, and I finally got more from the cafeteria.” He moved over to the little refrigerator he kept in his room, opening it and grabbing two cans of soda. Closing it with his hip, he moved over to Rayne and handed it to her. “There you go,” he smiled.

Glancing at the DVDs she brought, Lucas tilted his head to the side. “I think I’ve seen all these. Do you want to look at the ones I picked out?” he asked, gesturing to the Mike Birbiglia, Brad Trackman, Geoff Tate, and Lewis Black DVDs that were on his bed. “Those guys are all really funny,” he pointed out. He heard the microwave beeping and moved back over there, grabbing a bowl out of another cabinet, opening the bag of popcorn and pouring it into a bowl. “And, as promised, here is your popcorn,” he said, popping a few kernels into his mouth and smiling at her.

Rayne smiled brightly. "I said it once, and I'll say it again: You're a saint." She reached up and accepted the soda from him, setting it in front of her on the bed, not opening it just yet. "Thank you."

She glanced over at the movies that he gestured to, and tilted her head slightly as she tried to place in her head whether she had even heard of some of these people. "I've seen the Lewis Black one, but I'm pretty sure I've never heard of the other three. Which one do you like best?" She took that time to look down at her soda and pop it open, making a loud noise with the can.

When the popcorn was brought over, she thanked him again and grabbed a few pieces and put them in her mouth, but she still had two kernels in her hand... and she playfully tossed them at his head. Childish? Sure, but Rayne was definitely the playful type. "Oh, sorry. It slipped?" She raised her hands in the air, shrugged, and gave an innocent smile.

Laughing, Lucas shook his head. “Nah, I don’t think that I’ve reached saint status just with popcorn and Dr. Pepper,” he smiled, taking a seat next to her on the bed. Rayne asked him which of the comics were his favorite, and he scratched his head, taking the dvds from her and glancing down at them. “Hmm. That’s a difficult question. Brad Trackman is perverted funny, Geoff Tate is kind of insulting funny, and Mike Birbiglia is just all-around funny. I think, out of these three, I’d have to go with Mike Birbiglia. He’s my favorite comedian, hands down,” he held up the Mike Birbiglia dvd, smiling.

Laughing as Rayne tossed some kernels of popcorn at his head, Lucas rose a brow at her. “It slipped?” he repeated her excuse back to her and shook his head, the smile still on his face. “I’m a little disappointed. I would have thought you’d be able to come up with a better excuse than ‘it slipped’,” he teased. Grabbing the kernels she tossed at him, Lucas threw them back at her, and then stuck his tongue out at her to be just as childish as she was being, if not more.

Rayne was about to suggest watching Mike Birbiglia from the way he described each comedian's styles, but he was one step a head of her. "He sounds like our man, then." She nodded matter of factly and smiled. Not that the other two didn't sound funny in their own right, but if Mike was 'all around' funny, then why fool with someone who wasn't right?

"I'm glad you thought better of me! I'll have to try harder next time." She flashed him a smile as she put a few more pieces of popcorn in her mouth. "But you have to admit, it sounded so much better than 'your head just seemed like it needed popcorn thrown at it'." She chuckled. Or better than just wanted an excuse to flirt. While she had a job that caused her to flirt a bit (you had to get tips somehow), she wasn't ever really honest to God flirting. Well, except with Lucas, and it just resulted in ... well, popcorn being thrown. She liked Lucas. A lot. A little too much than she really cared to admit to herself at the moment.

Smiling as she agreed to watch Mike Birbiglia, Lucas nodded and grabbed the dvd, getting off the bed and squatting in front of the television set he had set up with his dvd player. He put the dvd in, turning on the tv and getting everything set up. Once it was all set up, he moved over by the door and turned off the light, heading back to his bed and taking a seat next to Rayne again. “Okay, be prepared to laugh at his crazy ass stories. I swear, some of the stuff he says happens to him, he has to make up. Because they’re so off-the-wall. But I saw him live once, and met him, and he swore to me that it was all true,” he laughed, shrugging.

Nodding as she said she’d have to try harder next time, Lucas smiled. “Yeah, just make sure it’s a much better excuse next time. And then my respect for you will probably go back to where it was before,” he teased, the smile on his face giving away the fact that he was teasing. It was really easy for him to be himself and comfortable around Rayne, which was a good thing. He wasn’t all that nervous about spending time with her, which was so different from every other woman he’d met. Snickering, Lucas rose a brow. “My head looked like it needed popcorn thrown at it? Okay … it slipped is much better than that one, I’ll give you that,” he scratched the side of his face as he laughed.

Rayne laughed at his musing about Mike Birbiglia as he explained, nodding her head intermittently. "Did you really? Where was that?" It was the beginning of the DVD, so she had no issues with a little talking.

"Duly noted." She chuckled. "See? There you go!" Rayne too felt really comfortable around Lucas. Not that she was shy like him, because in her line of work, you kind of can't be shy, but the fact that she felt comfortable with shameless flirting was a huge step for her, and she didn't really know what came over her. And she'd never have guessed that he was that shy, either, just because he did feel so comfortable around her. She was glad that he did. She slipped off her flip flops and slid her leg up, planting the sole of her foot flat on the bed. One hand stayed in front of her to keep her dress down, and the other went under her chin, using her knee to hold her head up and look over at him.

Sitting back down on his bed, Lucas glanced over at Rayne and gave her a smile. “Yeah, back home. He was in town, playing a free show at a university, so I went. He’s really funny. If you like him, we’ll have to try and catch him sometime,” he smiled. He didn’t really realize that he had just kind of asked Rayne out on a date, but if he had, he would have probably blushed.

Laughing, Lucas nodded. “Yeah, yeah. Okay. I guess ‘it slipped’ wasn’t that horrible after all,” he shook his head, moving to get comfortable on his bed. He glanced back at her and couldn’t help but smile at how comfortable she looked just sitting there, on his bed. He glanced back at the television and smiled as the dvd started and Mike started telling stories about how awkward he was in his life. Lucas loved all of Mike’s material, and he’d seen the dvd multiple times. So, when he was sure he wasn’t going to get caught, he let his gaze move over to focus on Rayne for a few moments here and there, before turning back to the television.

She'd been on his bed enough times for their movie nights to feel incredibly comfortable, which.. when you think about it, is a little dirty sounding, but it was all in innocence! Subconciously, in the back of her mind somewhere, she kinda hoped that it wouldn't be. Much like their innocent flirting. He was the first person that she ever really felt comfortable flirting with, but she just blocked that out. Or tried.

That's why, after a while of laughing at Mike's antics, and stealing a few glances (which she might have caught a few of his, too), she felt this overwhelming urge as she looked eyes with him. All she had to do was close that little gap between them, and... it would all be over.

And she did just that. Acting on impulse, and not thinking about it for one moment, she brought her hand up to his jawline and brushed her lips against his lightly before going in for a deeper kiss. It just seemed... like it was supposed to be done.

Lucas scooted back against the wall so he was sitting right next to Rayne, reaching over and stealing a few kernals of popcorn every so often. She caught him looking over at her every so often, and then he caught her looking at him as well. Whenever that happened, he just gave her a small smile and turned his glance back to the television. He was really comfortable around her, that much was for sure. It didn't worry or bother him like he thought it might, when he'd become attracted to another woman. And he was definitely attracted to Rayne.

Just like it had happened many times that night, their eyes locked again and Lucas gave her a small smile. He was just about to look away when she brought her hand up and touched his cheek, brushing her lips against his. He was shocked by that movement, and at first he didn't do anything. She went in for a second, deeper kiss, and Lucas hesitated a moment before he responded, returning her kiss and reaching one of his hands up to slide into her hair behind her head.

She was a little worried when he didn't immediately return the kiss, but who could blame him, really, because as much as they had stolen glances at each other, that could have been it: just glances. Nothing that lead to her growing a pair and getting the sudden urge to kiss him. If she had been thinking about it? She never would have done it. Not because she didn't like him, but... for some reason, she felt like she shouldn't. It had been two years since Tristan died, but she still felt like she should be in mourning or something. Or that she should make sure she was ready to move on before making bold moves like... kissing Lucas.

If his lips hadn't have been against hers, she would have sighed a breath of relief that he was kissing her back. Instead, she just smiled lightly against his lips as she kept kissing him.

She parted for him after a few moments, and that was when her head went back to that yucky, horrible.. thinking thing it liked to do so much. She pressed her forehead against his and bit her lip before moving back a little to lock eyes with him. "I... I'm sorry. I shouldn't have..." Damnit, why did this have to be so difficult? Part of her wanted to just keep kissing him. Her hand was still on his jawline, her thumb even grazing across the skin on his face lightly as she spoke. Her head was telling her something completely different, and she felt she owed it to him not to kiss him if she wasn't sure what she wanted, or felt.

...But really, kissing him should have told her that... right?

Lucas wasn’t sure what he was doing … he and Rayne were friends, right? Okay, he knew that wasn’t true. They flirted more than any friends should. He didn’t know what it was about her ... there were so many things. She was funny, she made him laugh. She was genuinely sweet. And she was gorgeous, absolutely beautiful. Lucas had to be blind not to see that. He was just getting into the kiss a little more … it had been years since he’d kissed someone … when Rayne pulled away and pressed her forehead against his. He was about to speak, but she cut him off.

His eyes locked on hers, Lucas listened to her confusion. Rolling his lips into his mouth, he shook his head. “No, no … you don’t have to apologize, really. I’m pretty sure it was both of our faults,” he confessed, reaching one hand up to run through his hair briefly before it fell into his lap. He liked the way it felt with her thumb grazing over his skin, though, and he tilted his head into her touch. Returning his gaze to her, he gave her a small smile, wondering what the hell he was doing. He briefly entertained the idea of coming clean with Rayne about the engagement ring on the chain around his neck, but then thought against it. He didn’t want it seem like he was using Megan’s death to illicit a reaction out of her or anything.

Clearing his throat and sitting back against the wall, Lucas tilted his head to the side. “There’s no pressure or anything, we can go back to watching Mike,” he suggested, running one of his hands over his face briefly.

Rayne finally let her hand part from his, and simply nodded her head, agreeing that that was what they should do: Just keep watching the movie, and she was going to try and act like it never happened.

But it did happen, and all those confusing thoughts kept running around and around in her head. She wanted to pretend like it hadn't happened, and that they were fine, but she knew otherwise. She knew that she couldn't just sit there and act like he was just her friend now. Don't ask her why. He was her friend, sure, but it was so much more than that. So much more than she cared to admit to herself. She turned her attention back to the television, because she thought if she kept looking at him, she'd get the urge to kiss him all over again, and then she'd just be utterly screwed.

After sitting there a minute, long enough to attempt to get back into the movie, but also long enough to realize it was a weak attempt at best, she bit her lip hard, and then scooted a little towards the edge of the bed and away from the wall. "Actually... I think I'd better go..." She felt a pang of guilt for thinking that, but she just wanted to clear her head, and being here with him wasn't doing that at all.

Lucas, too, was having a hard time concentrating on the dvd. He loved Mike Birbiglia, and he’d seen this dvd five thousand times, so he knew most of the jokes by heart. He could probably recite them for you, if you asked him to. He kept catching himself stealing glances over at Rayne, and then once he figured out what he was doing, he’d snap his head back in the other direction. He didn’t want to be the creepy guy who didn’t know how to spend time with a girl without staring at her.

After a few more minutes of this, Rayne scooted towards the edge of the bed and said that she was going to go. Lucas was confused by the feelings he had from that statement, mostly because they were two complete opposites. He was both relieved, and disappointed that she was leaving. Clearing his throat, he moved to get off the bed as well, running one of his hands through his hair. “Okay,” he nodded. He walked with her over to the door and put his hand on the doorknob, giving her a smile. “We’ll have to do this again,” he tilted his head to the side. Clearing his throat, he scratched the back of his head. “The movie, I mean …” he trailed off, not wanting her to think he meant the kiss … though, honestly, he wouldn’t mind doing that again. Giving her a smile, he opened the door for her. “I’ll see you later, Rayne.”

Rayne felt bad for suggesting having to leave, but she really couldn't trust herself to think properly, which could be very dangerous when you added in the whole element that she just had. Ugh. This was going to cause her so much stress now. She knew she was going to be racking her brain, trying to figure out what the hell was even going on up there.

Her mind did immediately go to the kiss when he said that, causing her to bite her lip for a bit until he corrected himself. "...Yeah." She nodded as she moved past him. She turned to face him in the doorway though, and instantly just wanted to kiss him all over again. This was not good. Not good at all.

...But something told her that she already opened this can of worms. She might as well just enjoy one more little kiss, right? Whether or not it was a good idea, she tilted up on her tiptoes and gave him a soft kiss. She lingered several seconds before moving back away from him. "Goodnight, Lucas." She gave him a small wave before turning to head back to her room.
