Ric was worried about Mer. She had been even more on edge with these new vampires than usual. He entered their room and crossed his arms over his chest, gazing at her.
Meredith couldn't stand sitting idly by and doing nothing, but a big part of her heritage was keeping it a secret. She couldn't just go out and patrol without telling her housemates and especially her boyfriend. She was afraid he would see her differently. When Alaric came in the room, she was pacing. She stopped when she felt his eyes on her and turned, a concerned expression crossing her face when she saw him. "What's going on?"
"I could ask you the same question. What's going on with you, Mer?" he asked with concern. His eyes were filled with lover. "You can tell me anything, you know."
Meredith's brows knitted in confusion while her stomach twisted in knots. She knew she was acting oddly. Calm, collected Meredith Sulez was on edge. "What?" she asked. She hated keeping secrets from him, but she had to.
"I can tell something is wrong with you. You can tell me anything, right?" he assured her.
Meredith sighed softly and sat down on the edge of the bed. "I can't, Alaric," she answered. "Not this."
His brows furrowed as he gazed at her. "You have to know that I would never judge you. And nothing could change the way I feel about you," he assured her.
Meredith glanced away from him. "It's not that," she told him. It was true she feared he would see her differently, but it was more the family secret.
His eyes searchd hers for some sign of what was going on. But there was not anything to show him. He sighed. "I can't help you if you don't let me in."
Meredith bit down on her lip gently. It hurt to see him like this, and to know she caused it. "Close he door, please," she said finally.
He did as requested then rejoined her on the bed. He reached over and held her hand in a silent show of support.
Meredith glanced at their hands before looking up at him, meeting his eyes. "My family is a line of hunter-slayers. I've been trained from a young age as the next one." Meredith had played the skeptic for so long, pretended to accept the supernatural only once she was given no choice. It was strange to admit that she was the first of her friends to know about it.
Of all the things she could have said, that was the one he was least prepared for. He knew his mouth was gaping and made an effort to close it. He blinked wondering what he should think. Then he gave her a small smile. "Well this certainly explains how you have kept so calm all this time," he said rationally.
Meredith could tell he was shocked, but not knowing what he was thinking beyond that terrified her. When he finally spoke, she wasn't sure what to say. "You're not mad at me?" she asked cautiously.
He considered her question then shook his head. "No. I could never be angry with you for being who you are. That's who I love," he pointed out.
Meredith relaxed visibly at his words. "I'm sorry I never told you. I'm supposed to keep it secret, so it was easier playing the skeptic."
He nodded in understanding "I get it. I have to ask--why did you decide to tell me now? I would have never gessed," he said though he didn't know if that were true.
Meredith sighed. This would be harder to explain, especially as Alaric had been since her kidnapping. "With the vampires that are running around, I feel like it's my duty to do something about it, but if I left every night, you would notice. That's why I've been so keyed up and once you noticed that... it hurt seeing you want to help me and not knowing what it was. I didn't want you to think I was hiding something else."
He nodded. "Although I don't agree with you going out on your own, I get why. Can I ask a favor though? Can I be your vamp-hunting partner? I am sure you can even teach me some things," he said bumping shoulders with her, trying to lighten the mood a bit. Things were always so doom and gloom... He wanted Meredith to have happiness.
Meredith didn't agree with him going out either, even with her. She didn't want him in danger, but she realized he was making a concession in this. She didn't doubt that it was more an effort to keep her safe than to learn from her. Though she was se she could teach him quite a bit. She smiled softly. "The student becoming the teacher," she said wrily. "I don't really want you out there, either, but I suppose we could compromise in pairing."
"I am glad you do not see me as a liability at least," he said with a wink. "And.. thanks Mer," he said as he ooked over at her.
Meredith shook her head. "You may not have had the training I have, but you know what you're doing and I respect that." She looked over at Alatric. "I love that you don't treat me like a child."
"Are you kidding me?" he asked, his mouth agape. "You are more of an adult than me," he half-teased.
Meredith smild softly. It was true she was mature for her age, but he had still been her teacher, if only briefly. "A lot of people wouldn't look past my age."
"Then a lot of people don't deserve to know you," he said, reaching over to tuck a stray lock of hair behind her ear.
Meredith smiled softly. Alaric had a way of making her feel incredibly special. "That's why I love you. Because you do look past it."
He smiled, loving hearing those words come from her lips. "I love you too. I am lucky to have you," he said. He wondered when she would see that she was better than he was. That shecould do so much better.
Meredith shook her head. "I'm the lucky one."
"Bah! You are wrong there," he said then leane over to capture her lips in a kiss.
Before she could argue, is lips caught hers and she found that she didn't care enough to argue. She kissed him back, feeling a warmth flood her.
He was relieved when she kissed him back. He didn't ever know how she would react. His hands reached around her waist and pulled her into his lap.
Meredith settled into his lap as he moved her there. It was true she wasn't one for expressing affection often, but she did love him and they were alone. If there wsa a time for PDA, it would be then.
He took her compliance as encouragement and deepened the kiss. He fell back on the bed, pullng her with him and onto his chest. The kiss broke when he fell back and he laughed. "Sorry, I am clumsy," he said, running his hands through her hair.
Meredith kissed him back just as deeply, then when he fell back, she smirked playfully. "Or clumsy is just an excuse," she suggested.
He pulled her back down and kissed her again. His hands ran down her back lightly tracing the outline of her spine.
Meredith kissed him back again, feeling his fingers along her spine. She shivered slightly.
He moaned deep in his chest as he felt her return his kiss. He loved her more than life itself and wanted nothing more than to protect her.
Meredith ran her hand along his chest where she felt the moan come from.
He didn't know how far she wanted to go and didn't want to push her so broke the kiss. "I do not want you to do anything you don't want to," he said.
Meredith looked at him, a rare expression of pure affection on her face. "I know," she answered. "I'm fine, I promise."
