Current mood: worried

Morning sickness
Who: Viveka ot Adi
Where: their home
When: mid August

Viveka hadn't been feeling particularly well - she assumed the August heat had been the cause of it. The kitchen particularly was sweltering, and the small windows didn't let in much breeze. She spent many afternoons sitting in the shade on the porch until the heat passed enough that the house became bearable again.

In the mornings lately, she'd felt sick upon waking, and had spent longer laying in bed than she would have normally. It was starting to worry her, but she hadn't wanted to trouble Adi with it. Doctors were expensive, and a military doctor might ask too many questions, look too closely. And a French doctor might not want to treat a German woman at all.

Today though, she didn't feel like getting out of bed at all, so she knew she would have to tell Adi. "Dear," she said when they woke in the morning. "I'm not feeling up to making breakfast today..."

Adi had noticed that Viveka wasn't feeling well. It was hard not to, to be honest. However, she didn't seem to want to mention it, and he just assumed that it must be the Paris heat getting to her. It was much more humid here than it was in their hometown. As soon as he got a look at her this morning, however, he couldn't just assume that it was the heat anymore.

He brushed a stray piece of hair out of her face. "Don't worry about breakfast. You look like you need your rest."

Viveka rested her head on her husband's shoulder. "I just don't know what's gotten into me," she confessed, half-closing her eyes. "I feel so awful in the mornings, and in the heat of the day. It's just been dreadful."

"I'm sure that it's just the humidity of Paris getting to you." If he were more honest, it got to him on some days, too. He wouldn't admit to a little weakness like that, though. "Are you sure you don't need to see a doctor?" He knew that it would be risky no matter which one they went to, but he didn't want her to get too sick because of what a doctor might find out.

"Maybe if I just rest enough I'll be fine," Viveka said, hoping that was the case. "I've just been so tired, and so nauseous."

He pushed a piece of hair out of her face. "That might help. Only time can tell." He would still rather her see a doctor, but he could easily understand her reluctance. "I wonder what could cause you to be so nauseous?" One thing crossed his mind, but that was quickly brushed aside.
