One of these mornings, I'm going to rise up singing

At times, she didn't want to admit it, but she missed the outdoors. When she was younger, she was always outdoors. She played games with her friends, went fishing in the nearby river and made her mother angry by ruining her clothing.

When she got older, she stayed indoors more, and forgot how to play. Now the young woman sat on a bench in the park, and thought back to those times. It was before she realized that life could get hard. She had a lot to be thankful for right now, so she focused on that. Things would get worse before they got better.

But they would get better. They had to.

The singer sat back, and watched birds for a moment.

Fancy was making her way home, a little tipsy, but not drunk. It was hot out, almost unbearably so but not quite. She caught sight of someone in the distance sitting on a bench and stared after them a moment before she realized she knew who it was. She crossed over the grounds to come up behind, as silently as possible. She took a cigarette out of her purse and stuck it in between her lips while pulling out her lighter. It snapped to life with a mechanical click and she took a moment to light her cigarette and take a drag before speaking.

"A woman shouldn't be out this late by herself Jackie."

	"I am glad to see you too!" Fancy took a drag on her cigarette and turned her head a moment so as not to blow smoke in her friend's face. Jackie tried to think of a safe way to say what she was thinking. If she were somewhere private, she'd tell Fancy that she was worried about the near future, and worried about what would happen with the small group of resistance they were forming.

Instead, she tried to simplify it all.

"Sometimes, I miss where I used to live- just the quiet, though... and I'm worried about... a garden. Flowers... They're all planted together, and you expect them to grow strong, but they might not grow, or weeds choke some out. Sometimes, they get trampled, or picked."

Jackie wasn't the best at metaphors.

	Fancy's forehead wrinkled and she tilted her head in confusion. No Jackie wasn't the best at metaphors, but Fancy got it after a few moments. "True, but it's also true of any flower, in any garden." "Oh..." Jackie nodded "Well, exciting is better than horrible. I've got to travel again soon"

It was easier for Jackie to travel- mostly because she was a performer. She always had a lot of luggage, which everyone knew was full of costumes.

She usually came back with things that were needed.

"I'm going to Portugal again. I could pick up a trinket for you, if you would like."
