Hoping to Meet Someone New
Who: Gretchen and Open
When: Tuesday Afternoon
Where: Cafe

Gretchen had just gotten off of work from the seamstress shop today, and wanted to relax a little before turning in for the day. She wanted to enjoy the lovely day that the city was having. The sun was shining, but it wasn't too hot to be uncomfortable to sit outside. She decided to visit a cafe that was near her work place.

Once she sat down at a table outside, she ordered a glass of water and a light dinner. She wasn't very hungry, but she wasn't much of a cook herself, so she tended to eat out more often than not. There wasn't much for her to do day to day. Hans worked a lot, and she didn't know many others in the city yet. She hoped to meet someone new soon, possibly even make a friend.

Victoire had earned a little extra money that week and decided to treat herself at a cafe. It had been a while since she had eaten out anyway, and the evening was quite lovely. She actually found sitting there enjoyable. It had been a very long time since Victoire had felt anything other than anger and sadness, and it was refreshing to not feel entirely miserable.

The redhead went to light a cigarette but realized she was out of matches. "Damn," she muttered under her breath, scoping the area for another human being that might be able to help her out. She spotted a lovely blonde woman not far from her. "Excusez-moi," Victoire quipped in a friendly tone. "You wouldn't happen to have a light would you?"

Gretchen looked over when she realized that the woman was talking to her. At least her French had gotten much better since her move to Paris. Now she could hold conversations with people in it, instead of staring at them blankly when they talked to her. "Oui," she said, reaching into her purse and retrieving a small box of matches. She smiled and handed them over to the woman.

Victoire was glad to find the woman spoke French -- even if she wasn't, it was at least a little less obvious and helped Victoire to not dislike her right away. She lit her cigarette and handed the box of matches back to the woman.

"Merci," she replied. Then: "It's a lovely evening, no?"

"You're welcome," Gretchen continued in French, putting the box of matches back into her purse. "Yes, it is a lovely evening. That is why I decided to dine outside tonight. I wanted to enjoy the warm air." The woman seemed nice enough, and Gretchen so wanted to talk to someone tonight.

Victoire nodded in agreement as she took a drag. "Yes, it is good to enjoy the simple things in life." She had wanted to say that she was surprised she could enjoy anything in the city what with the effing Germans running around and destroying everything, but this woman was a stranger and that wasn't a very smart thing to say to people she didn't know nowadays, especially in public.

"This is one of my favorite cafes in the entire city," she continued with a small smile.

"It is my first time stopping by here," Gretchen said to her. "I wanted to stop somewhere on my way home from work." She looked around the cafe. "Why is this cafe one of your favorites? Is it the food, or the atmosphere?"
