He smiled slightly. As he ate his croissant, he thought about his father. He wondered what he'd heard - had the military told him he was dead, or simply missing? How had the man taken it? His father was usually a stoic man, taking life as it came, but would the loss - even just the potential loss - of his only son break him down? He hoped not.
He sighed quietly to himself. Such thoughts would not help either of them - what had happened couldn't be changed now, and they both would simply have to accept it and do the best they could. Maybe someday soon he could get a letter out to the man.
