Pyramid Tournament
The sports deck of the resort liner Shangri-La was buzzing with excitement. For two days a round robin pyramid tournament had been underway with teams competing from throughout the fleet, and the games had been broadcast live on wireless so that people could listen in even if they couldn't make the trip to the luxurious ship.

Five teams started out competing on the first day, three from the civilian fleet and two from the military. Over the course of the two days each team played each other at least once, and then again in the semi final and final round until only two remained for the 'title game'.

Jake Mackenzie stepped out onto the court along with the rest of the team from Avalon, feeling a bit tired and sore from the number of games he and the rest of the team had participated in over the past two days. Pyramid was a full contact sport and he'd be nursing several aches and pains for days after this game was over. The past two days had reminded him in no uncertain terms that he wasn't twenty anymore.

His only consolation was that the other team, made up of residents and crew of Shangri-La, was just as beat up as they were.

For the start he would be playing along with CPO Gaither and Lieutenant Kerrigan, then they would rotate in and out with the other members of the team including Kobe and Josiah.

A glance up at the stands revealed a packed house, and he noticed the Admiral herself down in the front row. This was turning into quite the event.

Dani leaned forward slightly to get a better look at Rhys as the broad form of her fiancé stepped out onto the court. She'd enjoyed coming over after work the past two days to watch the games and especially watching her beloved get all hot and sweaty.

The young woman sighed and rubbed her swollen midsection before leaning back and turning to face Bethany, who'd snagged the seat next to her for this game.

"How's Niki holding up? I know Rhys was pretty sore last night, I ended up giving him a backrub instead of the other way around."

"She slept like the dead last night," Bethany told Dani, glancing down to where the team were spreading out across the court. "I had to make her do a few flights last night, and I think for the first time I might have seen a hint of reluctance in her face!" she laughed, the sound not as hollow as it felt in her chest. She didn't see Niki till she'd returned from the hangar after the last run, and collapsed on Bethany's bed instead of going to her own cabin. "She fell asleep while getting a rubdown, so I left her sleep there."

	"I don't know, but he does have a good sense of humor. Sometimes pilots get their callsigns from screwing up or something that happens during training."
