Note to Bethany

Ani,

I talked things over with my acting CO. They're too short handed for me to go on leave immediately, but agreed to me working half days in the office for the next month. After that I'll be able to take maternity leave with their blessing, so at least I'll get some time to relax and rest before the babies are born.

I don't know if I'll come over before then, but I definitely like that idea of being pampered on Shangri-La for a few days!

Give Niki a hug for me and tell her to come and see me the next time she's on Avalon.

Bethany read the note and gave a wry smile to the paper. She wasn't surprise, the message of the interview she'd done when she was visiting having become a topic of discussion in the bars and restaurants, and even in the kitchens of Shangri-la. Everyone knew of the damage the Brownlee had suffered and the frantic work to return the ship to an operational status before the next attack. A number of officers from the ship had cancelled bookings on the Shangri-la, some personally, sadly a couple of them via their friends who'd known they were planning on time away from their work.

She folded the note and tucked it in the drawer, not for the first time secretly thanking the gods that Niki had absolutely no interest in joining up. She didn't know what she would do if anything every happened to her sister.

She quickly shook off the thought before turning and heading out of her quarters to visit the storeroom with her assistant manager to see how the stocktake was progressing, turning her mind to the organising she'd soon be doing for Dani's baby shower.
