Into The Breach
"Jumping in five... Four... Three..."

The actual leap was timed with perfect co-ordination. The bulk of the civilian fleet had stayed where it was, protected by a battlestar and other remaining military assets. This, other contingent, however, was the polar opposite: Factory refining ships, along with tugs and the like, to haul the relevant pieces into place. But what made the difference was that the over-riding majority of these craft were military. Everything was geared to protecting those industrial vessels, at a moment's notice.

If things went well, they would not have to. As ever, of course, few plans ever survived first contact with reality.

And with the wrecks they were after being situated in the middle of an asteroid field, even the environment could be thought of as a potentially hazardous enemy.

"Launch Marine expedition Raptors and Viper escorts. Engage heavy ECM cover. The moment anything tries breaking through, I want exact locations plotted and a firing solution handed off to the Viper CAP, if need be."

Within the Avalon's hangers, dozens of Raptors, each loaded with a complement of Marines, began to depart. Their target, a fused war grave of corpses; men and machines, alike.

"Whoa!" Rosie yanked the yoke, avoiding the debris and only costing her cargo a few gasps. No upset stomachs or cracked heads yet, not too shabby.

"Thanks for that warning Bojay," she spoke over the wireless. "Gods, this place is a junk yard."

Vagabond moved the Mark VII like a dart of mercury through the web of debris, his eyes drinking in the aftermath of war, "Mark One Eyeball, Bojay. Keepin' 'em peeled."

As he got past the first collection of detritus and slag, he manuevered his fighter just a little closer to the Raptor, to her Raptor. There was no way he was going to let anyone down, this mission - least of her all, her. Hearing her voice across the wireless only helped strengthen his resolve.

His voice was still clear and casual, perhaps even jovial. It had always been his defense mechanism when things got too serious. "No worries, there Cupcake. I'll be keepin' ye Jim Dandy clean from any broken bullet-heads or scrap this go-around."

“Easy does it.” Sykes slowed his raptor and used the ship’s searchlight to illuminate the landing bay inside the basestar. There was a great open space inside, exactly like the schematics plan indicated. Their was a old heavy landing ship inside that had split in two on the far end, other than that the raiders that were suppose to be housed inside were not there. They could have already been launched in the battle over forty years ago.

Sykes hovered his raptor above the deck and then slowly rotated the ship 180 degrees to face toward the entrance way. The other raptors and vipers inside hovered above his ship as he finally landed on the hard deck. “We’re good.” he said into the wireless. “Everyone else find a spot and then deploy your marines.” The vipers with their landing lights on would hover above to provide cover till the marines were fully deployed.
