Calling Seph
Bethany stood staring at the message on the flimsy paper in her hands. The ship's communications officer had brought it to her personally, finding her in the kitchen attached to the ballroom where the members of the Orchid Grower's Society would gather later for their annual function. Seeing that it was sent by Dani made her less worried, but no less concerned. She looked up at the young man and forced a small smile, thanking him for bringing it. "Is there any way I can send a message to Babylonia immediately?" she asked, relieved when the young man nodded. The young man held out a small pad and pen he was carrying. "I can write it down if you prefer?" he offered, noticing she was still holding the flimsy paper.

"Yes, please, if you would," she told him and started to recite.

"To Persephone Solari: It seems we won't be able to make it over tonight. Would you be able to come over instead? It seems Anika has been asked to help out on Avalon, and can't tell me how long she'll be there. If you're able to come visit I would greatly appreciate it," she told him, managing to remain calm and poised as she recited. She knew she couldn't say anything more, not even about the rumours she'd been hearing regarding an upcoming mission. The rumours were disjointed and none really related but there were enough of them to indicate either something was coming up, or someone was wanting to put everyone on edge. She had thought it was the latter until she'd heard about the lower decks on the ship being cordoned off and now this.

She thanked the young man as he read the message back and told her he'd call and confirm when he knew the message had been received on Babylonia and immediately there was a response.

Anika and Bethany had been supposed to go and visit Seph that evening, the invitation sent by the young woman in her beautifully elegant hand writing on paper that had been hand made through the twins' co-op. She had been nervously looking forward to it despite her usual reluctance to leave the Shangri-La. Now, without Anika to take her across there was no way Bethany would be leaving the enormous cruiser, her well hidden fear of space far too entrenched now to allow her to leave the security of her home for the last eight years unless she was with Anika. She inhaled slowly and deeply, holding it for a few seconds before releasing it slowly, counting silently to herself as she steadied herself.

"You alright Miss?" the young waitress asked, seeing Bethany standing there still after the comms officer had left.

It brought her back to her world, her safety zone and she turned, a little pale but collected again and nodded. "Yes, thanks you Zoe, just looks like my plans for the evening have changed, so I'll be here if needed."

The message had made Persephone frown. There was a, "Huh... Huh. Huh..." Each one accompanied by a tilt of head, as the young brunette mulled over what could possibly have happened. There were all manner of things and, as the pilot was not military, anything to do with whatever rumours might have been overheard, was put to one side.

Whatever could it be?

Nevertheless, she accepted the request. It took her a little longer than usual, of course, to book a passage over. The woman who she usually got to shuttle her around, on those times it was neccessary, was apparently unavailable, after all.

Now, stepping out in the landing bay and looking around, she looked to catch sight of the twin she had sent notice ahead to meet her.

Pacing the VIP Lounge Bethany turned to finally see Seph alight from the shuttle and breathed a sigh of relief. The doors themselves seemed to sigh open, Bethany's heels sounding loud on the floor as she stepped onto the deck and started toward the young woman.

She'd also sent a message back to Dani asking if she could send anything over, wanting to know how Anika was. Her sister had always had a dislike of the military, Bryn's run ins having been a major influence in her attitude, but the dislike having intensified not long after the exodus. She hadn't been able to get anything out of Anika, her sister always just brushing off the gentle questions, the angling for some clue as to why. "I never liked 'em and this hasn't made it any better," she would say when Bethan was more to the point in her questioning.

"Thank you for coming, darling," she said as she reached Seph, her arms going around their young lover and hugging her, perhaps a little tighter and a little longer than normal.

"Oh, poor baby!" Persephone greeted, perhaps not fully appraised of all the details, but having enough to piece together edges of the puzzle. she gave the girl a wet kiss on the cheek, but was otherwise rather polite. "You know me - anything I can do, I'll try! Sometimes even twice!"

As they moved off, however, she remained holding hands. A secretive sort of thing.

"Tell me everything, OK?"

Bethany smiled at Seph's comment, again relieved she'd been able to come despite the fact it was her and Anika that were supposed to be going to visit with Seph that night.

"I don't have much more information, but what I do know makes me concerned," Bethany told her as they made their way back to the lounge to enter the corridors that would take them back to the main lobby and central promenade deck. Her hand tightened on Seph's.

"She was scheduled to do a delivery to Avalon as part of the regular deliveries she does for Fleet-mail," she started to explain. "All I know is that someone decided to detain her, because they want something, I don't know what, to do with Sting..." She paused, their steps coming to an abrupt halt as Bethany turned to look at Seph. Her voice was controlled but the underlying sense of fear was there, if one knew Bethany's voice as well as Seph did.

"You know how that's going to affect her," she said, only her eyes showing the worry that was deep inside her.

The other brunette came to a halt. Came to a halt with an obvious wince.

"Oh no..."

Persephone could only imagine the longer-haired twin's mental reaction. This was not good.

"They won't know," she said, with a worried look in her lover's direction. "And if she takes it too bad, who knows how they'll react? Dear heavens, I hope they haven't put her behind bars!"

Instantly, Persephone began to mentally flick through her personal finances.

"You think they'll set bail? I mean, I know it's miliitary, but..."

Lower lip was dragged between teeth. The answer would obviously be a 'no'. That, however, did not prevent Persephone from being hopeful. "We need to get to her! Even if it's just a call or something!"

"No, no, sorry darling, nothing like that," Bethany said quickly, realising she'd said it all wrong because of her worry about her sister's dealing with being on board the flagship of the fleet. "Dani's message said they were interested in Anika's ship, and were holding it, and her, and she will hopefully be allowed to stay with Dani." She paused, inhaling shakily again an steadying herself, fingers loosening their grip on Seph's forearm as she gently took it and looped it through her own to start them walking again. "I've sent a message over to Dani, asking if I can send things over." She glanced at Seph, knowing the young woman had contacts and sources that were even more vast than Bethany's. "Darling, you've heard about the orders that all non-active personel are going to be relocated off the warships, and there's something that's being planned, that has everything all a-buzz with speculation? Have you heard anything about what it might be?"

Persephone made a light shrug, shaking head.

"If I was still... 'Active', I might have. My girls haven't said anything. Must be all, like, compartmentalised and stuff. In fact, we're getting a lot of business precisely because of all the confusion, it seems. Pilots and such... Frustration's a friend to my line of work."

Persephone never did the dominatrix thing unless she wanted to, these days. She had employees. But Bethany knew that had advantages, too. Alas, any military personnel in her establishment did not seem to be revealing much. In other circumstances, Persephone might have had access to a real wealth of information. All sorts of things tended to get said when sexual intimacy was in play, whether or not they were asked about.

Persephone had said the last sentence with a wink. She was just naturally flirtation-inclined. They both could be. Between them, they could probably power a battlestar with all the signals they tended to generate.

The news about being unable to help find Anika put a dampener on things, but, by the same token, knowledge of the girl being able to stay with a friend, was a good thing. Persephone now figured helping Bethany to stay centered was her new priority. Something she did not mind, in the least.

"C'mon," she suggested, "whatever it is, it'll probably involve stuff blowing up. Always does... Let's go get drunk."
