F.Y.I.

After weeks of marathon cabinet meetings, caucus discussions, and confinement to Colonial One, Cedric sat silently as he waited for the Raptors external door to finish opening, and to make his way to the Avalon's hanger deck.

As he reached the solid deck of the hanger, surrounded by all the commotion and activity, Cedric quickly turned back to thank both the Pilot and ECO as they made their way to the deck themselves and offered his hand in apology and appreciation, for performing the tedious task of chauffeuring him around. Without his usual entourage of security and advisers, or his briefcase of folders and note, Cedric appreciated the rare opportunity the Battlestar offered to get away from Colonial One alone and quickly tried to take stock of it all, as he proceeded to make his way to the corridors of the ship.

Making his way along the halls of the ship, passing through the horde of officers and crew as they went about their daily routine of activities and duties. Cedric couldn't help but be reminded of the dilemma surrounding the state of the fleet that brought him to the Battlestar on his last visit, and now forced him to return once again.

As Prime Minister, he only hoped that his reason for his visit would prove to be more productive than his last, and would solve the dilemma that they all faced. As he paused to savor his last moment of near peace that he had for months, before he knocked on the door to the Admirals Office.

Came the reply to enter and Admiral sinclair glanced up from written notes being penned on her desk.

"Prime Minister," she smiled, raising herself to feet and stepping around to extend a hand for formality's sake. "Good to see you."

This was, ultimately, the final step in proceeding with what had started with a simple reconnaissance flight, culminating in what might yet be their riskiest endeavour yet. It all rested upon whether the operation would be authorised.

The door closed behind him, as Cedric made his way over to the Admirals desk.

“ Its good to see you as well, Admiral.” He replied, as he offered a friendly smile and shook her hand.

“I hope my timing isn’t a disturbance to you.” He asked as he took a seat, and tried to get comfortable. “Its certainly has been awhile since we’ve last had one of these powwows, you’re looking well.”

"Not at all," she replied. "The sooner, the better. quite whether you'll still be in the mood for compliments, after the fact, is another matter."

It was said with good humour. Sinclair was very much human. There was, however, a root of truth to the statement. She did not know how the Prime Minister would react to recent events. At the very least, she suspected it might be the cause of a headache or so. Already was, for her.

"I'm sure you remember our last conversation, Prime Minister... The problem with resources. We may just have found a solution to those needs, but, as ever, the gods giveth and the gods taketh away..."

“Isn’t that the truth…” he responded dryly.

Though He was naturally concerned and wary of any solution offered by the Military, as a politician. The Admirals statement instantly intrigued Wyndom.

For weeks it was the very subject of resources that had plagued and occupied both his schedule and life. And thought he somewhat preferred if it all wouldn’t have been a waist, for nothing. Personally he preyed the Admiral news offered a palatable alternative to the eventual decision and order he would otherwise he forced to make.

“What do you have in mind?”

"Drink? You might need it," Sinclair offered, accepting the reply, either way.

The previous top-secret meeting had gone over a great deal of ground and she repeated much of it there. How what had thought to be an asteroid belt had led to the discovery of something bigger, something greater. Of ancient battlestar and basestar would have enough raw materials to supply the fleet with, more or less, precisely what was needed. At least, for the basics. That it would effectively mean the desecration of what amounted to a war grave and, most troublingly of all, the potential for disaster, should any Cylon assets come out of what could be a systematic hibernation.

More or less everything which had been discussed before, was now laid out on the proverbial table, for the Prime Minister's benefit.

"So, there you have it," finished Claudia, hands parting before coming back together again. "It'll either be the answer to our most immediate prayers or the costliest misadventure since the destruction of the colonies. We've drawn up contingencies, run the numbers... It's now up to you, whether or not you wish us to proceed."

Cedric took a moment to finish his drink, and think, before responding. “Before I ok anything I want to know, what kind of timetable do you have in mind for this whole thing?

Personally Cedric hated that idea of placing civilians in the center of this likely fiasco of an operation. But he also realized the fact that this was indeed an answer to the fleet’s current problem, compared to the Band-Aid solution the government and parliament was willing to take.

“I’m not an engineer, but I take it, that taking them with us would be out of the question here?”

"Hours," replied Sinclair. "It'll depend greatly on just what the structural damage is. We're hoping to get confirmation of that soon. If all goes well, we should be able to do the actual cutting and get underway in less than half a day. That assumes it does go well, of course. The chances are it will... We just have to plan for contingencies."

Sinclair was no brute seeking to enact a military coup. She did not like politics, but saw them as a necessary evil, so to speak. More to the point, she knew her duty was to serve the administration, not own it. The decision was the Prime Minister's to make. Whatever he said, she would then abide by.

"Yes, we could," she spoke in answer to that query. "But considering the age and usntability issues we're dealing with, I'd rather take whole section intact, rather than risk them breaking up entirely. Just moving these two things around could make the hulls snap. There's no telling what internal support survived. Once we have them in manageable chunks, we can get underway again."

At the risk of sounding too enthusiastic, the Admiral lowered voice. "However," she began, "I want you to consider the risks we'd be operating under, if something unforseen happens. Even if we discount Cylon intervention, the merged reactors could go critical or a thousand other things. They were in the midst of combat... What if nuclear warheads were already primed? What if they fire? A worst case scenario could be catastrophic. This could easily go either way. Whatever you decide is going to change our future, Prime Minister."

“Truth be told, I hate this whole thing.” The Prime Minister stated as he got up from his chair and walked to the center of the room. “But… the potential to learn more about the Cylons, even olds ones is too great to pass up, especially if the records are true.”

“And on the other hand, my only current alternative to this resource problem is to cut your budget and mothball one of the two battlestars viper construction facilities. Which weather you believe me or not, I don’t want to see that happen.” Cedric tried his best to communicate his honesty sincerity in the last statement.

Despite being characterized as less than hawkish in his approach to the military and their affairs. Cedric did appreciate the candor and especially the sacrifice of the Admiral and her military officers. At time he loathed the very position he held for the us verse them mentality he often felt forced to take, do to the fleets current domestic and governmental affairs.

“So once you’ve got your confirmation, you have my approval to proceed ahead. Just know that aside from your standard orders to protect this fleet, I want you to learn as much about that Basestar as possible, even if you have to bring the frakkin thing with us. Its time this fleet became a little more proactive, and tried something new when it comes to the Cylons.”

“And I’m sure I don’t have to remind you that next week is the annual state of the fleet address, so lets make sure I have an actual fleet too address.” He quipped.

Learn about them...

Sinclair bit her tongue. Analysis, rather than simple melt-down, was going to make things much more difficult. It would almost certainly increase the span of time required. Still, she suppose that any computer cores and the like could be fished out. Most of the actual architecture was already known about.

"Analytical salvage will add some time to the estimate, Prime Minister," she voiced, not in denial. "But we'll what's practical."

There. The diplomatic answer. It gave her enough room to excuse matters, should the inpredictable take place.

"And as I'd prefer to keep my job, I'll see what I can do about fleet survival," she added in good humour. "I like to keep my kill tallies confined to robots. And the occasional NCO... I'll, uh, have the papers sent over for you to sign. Will you be needing travel back to your vessel or will you prefer to stay aboard the Avalon for a while?"

“I trust you’ll do what you can, Admiral.”

Cedric took a moment to check his watch. “Yes, I should get going. If you could arrange for something to take me back, I would appreciate.”

"I'll address the fleet, soon enough," Sinclair said, replying. "Training's been compartmentalised. Virtually no-one understands what we'll be doing or where it'll be. One way or another, the next election's going to be a great deal more interesting, that's for sure..."

Arranging to have the Prime Minister escorted back to be shuttled to his ship again, Admiral Sinclair watched him leave with a light tapping of fingers upon nearby support strut. Once the orders were signed, which would almost certainly be in the next few hours, all that preparation would finally be coming to a head.

She just hoped that bad feeling about it was just a healthy sense of paranoia.
