A Bad Routine, Persona 3 (Akihiko/Shinjiro)
Title: A Bad Routine
Author: RegicidalDwarf
Rating: PG-13?
Word Count: ~300
Prompt: July 3rd: Persona 3 - Akihiko/Shinjiro - rivalry - "like the back of my hand"
It’s almost down to a routine now. Aki’ll find him – in an alley, behind the school, where doesn’t really matter. Then he’ll spend a few minutes trying awkwardly to make small talk while somehow avoiding anything related to SEES or Shinji leaving or asking what he’s doing lately or demanding he come back. Then Shinji will say something mean – he doesn’t always mean to, but it kind of comes out anyway – and Aki will get defensive, and it all goes downhill from there.
Who throws the first punch – and how long they last before it happens – varies. Usually it’s Aki, but sometimes Shinji will just get so fucking fed up with Akihiko’s persistence in finding him, the way he seems to think that either leaving him alone or putting the slightest pressure on Shinjiro to come back will send him running for good. He ignores the very small part of him that thinks that maybe he would.
After all this time, Shinji can easily tell when Aki’s about to get so angry he forgets himself and throws a punch. He knows how hard it will be, where it’ll come from, how he’ll follow when Shinji dodges. He knows how Akihiko fights like the back of his–
But that’s a stupid phrase anyway. Who really spends time looking at the back of their hand? Really, he knows the way Akihiko fights like he knows the back of Aki’s hands, scarred and just a little bit broken from too many punches that went wrong and didn’t heal right. He knows how they feel against his palm when he blocks a punch, when he guesses just a little wrong and catches a blow with his face, how they feel fisted in the hair at the base of his neck when he finally backs Aki up against a wall.
He’d never admit that maybe Aki knows him just as well.
